I have my blending mode set to 'NORMAL". When I paint in black on a layer mask it creates a transparent effect (not hide the image/pattern).Â
Since the upgrade this has affected both my pc and laptop versions.  I've read through the forums and see a lot of folks having issues with the blending mode set inccorrectly but this seems different.Â
I have two layers. Upper most with text is locked.Bottom layer is an image I have applied a transparency/gradient mask for the raster image. Now, seems my layers palette is stuck in a mode called 'Layers (Opacity Mask)'.Not seen this before, but this is CS6. How do I get out to the main, root level of the layers palette?

Now you made awesome feature when i can paint on 3d model with normal map. But i can't do anything because of the masks.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed PS CS6 and when I apply a layer mask to a layer I can paint black to hide the layer, but when painting white to restore the layer there is no effect. White paint will not restore the layer or modify the mask at all. The black paint works as usual to hide the layer, but how do I restore an area in a layer mask if not painting white?
View 2 Replies View RelatedA problem has developed in my photoshop CS 6 64 bit on windows 7. I can't paint at full opacity in a layer mask. It is like an 75 % opacity brush. I have gone back to the default brushes soit is not the particular bursh. My brush settings are all at 100%, mask density is 100% , the blend mode is normal,-can't think of where else to look for the solution.The brush works just fine when I am not in a layer mask.I updated the graphic card driver and also the wacom intuos driver. It has to be somewhere in photoshop CS6 as when I go into my older version photoshop, cs5, the mask opacity works works at 100 % opacity.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhile creating various circular masks with a radial gradient from white to black, whenever I change the blending mode of the mask path Ai will throw me out of mask mode into layer editing mode. Since this is on a large document of ~2Gb file with multiple artbords for large poster & UI refresh speed is slow, this has become quite frustrating. Is this normal Ai behaviour?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought PSP about a year or so ago, but grew frustrated with it and reverted back to Gimp. Now, however, I think I am ready to jump back.. and I encountered originally back then.
Basically, in some of the adjustment layers (Local Tone Mapping, Fill Light & Clarity) the mask doesn't work. When I click on the mask control the mask color in the dialog switches from white to black, but the screen doesn't revert back to underlying layer.This is very repeatable. It only happens in some AL, others like Layers and Curves work reliably.
I am on W7 x 64, PSP X4 v 14.2.01
How do I do this in CS4?

I have a shape layer that is composed of closed curves which use the path operation "Intersect Shape Areas." In CS6, I added a layer style with a tight gradient that is vertically positioned to show a certain part of the gradient, and the gradient seems to be confined to only the visible intersection of the paths.

In CC, however, the gradient seems to be applied to the entire region of the paths, and not just the intersection - as if there were no path operation performed. Here's an image to show what I mean:Â
The only way I could reproduce the desired effect in CC was to merge the shape components. But, I'd rather be able to keep the shapes editable at a boolean level.

I have a logo made up of various vector layers, and I need one of them to fade to transparency. I traditionally use a regular "black-to-transparent" gradient on the mask for this, but it's pixel-based. So my question is, with regards to the black-to-transparent gradient located in the mask of a vector layer... is there any way to make this gradient vector-based instead of pixel-based?

So I can resize the logo at will without affecting the quality of the gradient in the single layer mask.All the vector mask tutorials I found are for shapes (regular and irregular) but don't seem to involve gradient-based transparency <- which is what I need.

So, then I went and found a lesson that contained the use of a Clipping Mask.

I am suppose to Select the main shape and "just" copy it and move it down (doesn't say rather to Paste in front or back but I assumed in back ~ not that it has mattered thus far)

However, while making the main shape I used Gradient Mesh and used an Offset to create a "replica" and so when I go to Select the main shape the mesh is selected and so when I Paste (in back ~ seems most logical) and then move it down the details such as the colors of the Gradient and other such things are visible in front ~ ??

I have tried using the Pen tool to draw behind the main shape, I've tried making a New Layer and placing it above and below and inbetween the main shape layer, I've tried adding the artwork to the Mask ... I've tried everything I can think of and I've been through many an article in the manual and FAQ's to no avail.

I suppose, what I think I need to know ... is, how ... how on earth do I draw behind this main shape? Am I not able to do it because I am not getting behind the Mask?
When I select a number of images to survey and flag one of those images, all images in survey mode are flagged making the culling process extremely difficult. This only started happening since upgrading to LR 4.2 May have to resort to LR 4.1 until fixed

When this is done does the selection borders try to blend with the back ground or will they try to blend with the layer 1 as it is the layer just behind the layer 2. In case if there is no background, I mean if all three are layers then what happens?
the default colour and opacity for the Quick Mask mode? I was trying to find a way of resetting it and don't seem to be able to find such an option. I don't really want to trash my preferences file...
View 10 Replies View RelatedOk, so i'm trying to cut an image out in photoshop like usual, and i go into quick mask mode, make my selection, go back in to normal mode and my image that i need cut out is selected, nothing else. However, when i cut it out, it takes some of the image that i didn't select with it, but only parts of it and they are kind of transparent. Anyone know what the problem is?

I have recently installed Photoshop CS6 after previous happy experience with CS3. The software appears to be seizing up when editing a selection in quick mask mode (image or layer mask) under the following conditions:

- 64 bit mode
- image > screen size, especially at 100% maginification
- or image magnification adjusted whilst in quick mask

The red mask appears slowly and only where I move the mouse curser - but will not cover the entire masked area.The software freezes, and I have to kill the process from the OS. Task manager shows its status as 'running' and memory / CPU do not appear to be maxed out.

trying to mask a certain area of a face with another picture, so I use the quick mask tool to paint in the area, but when I exit it and enter standard mode, there is nothing selected. It does however act as if there is a selection, because the other layer only is added to that section.
Also, I don't know if this is related to the other problem, but when I move another image into the original one to create two layers, then select the overlay blending option, I am happy with how it looks. However, after adding the layer mask, the other layer is really pale around the masked area.
For some reason my quick mask mode stopped working. I can go into quick mask mode. I can highlight what I want to select. but when I exit out to make the changes I wanted to, the only thing selected is the outside edge of the image I'm working on. So instead of having the extent of the image and the part I highlighted selected (basically everything except what I colored in QMM) only the extent of the image is selected.
I have even uninstalled photoshop, re-booted, and re-installed photoshop and I still have the same problem.
I am reading a tutorial about the background eraser, and in this tutorial, on the screenshots, the erased parts are in red. It is the same red than the default one for the mask mode.
Is there a mode to see the mask color instead of what there is beneath the layer ?
Note : Maybe the tutorial author put a red layer beneath the current layer...
the key functionality lost is the ability to use the previous layer mask for a new layer

I'd like to make the layer itself fully opaque, and move the contents of its alpha channel into a layer mask.
(If possible, merging the alpha channel with what I have already placed into the layer mask.)
Is there a difference between selecting your layer and clicking Add Layer Mask Icon versus having that layer selected, hold down ctrl and select Add Layer Mask Icon?
Also regarding working in Lightroom, if I modify a jpeg, select another image from filmstrip to work on and then go back to the first image for more work, are those actions degrading image even though I never physically save and close.
I am using PSE 11 and need a hint as to how to duplicate the picture layer and then add a layer mask. Still trying to figure this thing out.Â

I have a problem with this command : "Toggle composite and grayscale mask in Quick Mask mode"I know i have to press the tidle key " ~ " to activate it but i'm using an Azerty keyboard (belgium) and i have trouble with it.The only way i can use the tidle key on my keyboard is to press "Option + n" keys.

I've often been annoyed by the fact that that I need to go into the layer panel each time I need to switch between editing a layer and editing it's mask. Surely there must be a way to do this with a shortcut. I found a way to disable the layer mask in the shortcut menu, but this is not something I need to do that often. Switching between layer and layer mask, however, happens all the time - at least in my workflow.

I need the text to be a mask and I need it to be editable as text. Don't know if this is possible, experimented with clipping masks but I cant make it work.
