View 1 Replies View RelatedDespite the LR folder being connected to the right folder on my Drobo which contains all the photos
I am importing photos from an Aperture export (NEF file with XML side car). The folder contained 400 photos. 200 imported correctly and 200 were blank! I deleted the blank photos with a view to reimporting them. I also deleted the folder in LR and on my Drobo to ensure the photos would not be considered duplicates. I then reimported the photos the same way I have done the others only to end up with blanks once again but this time with question marks in the top right corner.
When I import photos using iPhoto or Aperture, I get an option to delete them off the camera when the import completes. That feature is really useful when there are deveral hynred photos in memory. How do I accomplish the same thing using Lightroom 4?
View 22 Replies View RelatedI am exporting approximately 25,000 images from Aperture 2.1.4 and importing them into Lightroom 4. I started working with my small projects of about 300 images to test. From Aperture, I exported the Master files with the Sidecar (IPTC4.XMP) files. [My masters are a mix of .jpgs and .NEF, and I read that the jpgs don't always carry the meta data through]. I successfully imported the master files into Lightroom and ran the "Read Metadata from File" command. I also exported the keywords file from Aperture and imported those into Lightroom as well.
Prior to exporting, I edited one file in Aperture by entering "test caption", "test location", "test keyword", "test copyright" etc. into several of the IPTC fields. These fields are NOT appearing in the equivalent Lightroom fields. I checked the .XMP file (using text edit) and it does contain the correct "test values". I am getting all of the EXIF metadata, but none of my custom values.
I used to have a huge library already imported into lightroom while all the files stored on Drobo (external HD). At some point my main computer died (HD failure). After a full reinstall of the whole system from scratch, including LR I tried to reimport the same libraries again into new the new installation. Is there a way to reuse the old import or somehow recreate it? Or I have to do it all from scratch?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have used the 30 day LR5 trial and I don't love it and prefer LR3 that I have been using for the past few years. I've created some libraries though, and want to know how I can view them if I return to using LR3 after the trial.
I didn't import the images to Lightroom, rather, I referenced them on my HD.
Do I need to export them as an older version? Or save the images in another format?
Is it possible to share your Lightroom library with a friend and retain keywords on each of your photos? For example, can I sync my Lightroom library with a friend's Lightroom so that he has all of my photos and the keywords that I have assigned to each photo?
View 3 Replies View Relatedfor rendering purposes (we work on stop-motion-stop films) in our company's processing workflow, I export many different image sequences with 1000 or more JPG images from many different RAW NEF folders. All these folders with 1000s of RAW NEF files get developed and then exported as JPGs
- into folders on various volumes on servers. so other people then further render from these folders in AE or other hosts.
sometimes however, after a week or month, for whatever reason we need to re-develop original RAW NEFs of a folder of a specific set in it's original lightroom folder (from where those JPGs had been exported from).
By knowing a filename like for example _DSC7561.jpg out of a JPG export folder I then would like to quickly find and locate the original folder within the LR4 library, containing e.g. the file _DSC7561.nef from where that JPG was exported from (for specific reasons I can not change all those export JPG folders are on different volumes than the original folders with RAW file sequences).
So, when I sit in front of LR4 on the RAW development stations is there a way to find
- folders in the lightroom catalogue in volumes or over volumes (by their known folder name or part of their foldername)?
- filenames or part of filenames in folders over volumes, or within a volume?
it is so time consuming to scroll all folders to find an original folder with RAWfiles from where we developed and exported JPGs. we keep those RAW folders not only for the original RAW files of course, but also because of the XMP sidecar files with all the development changes. sometimes we even store snapshots or several stages of XMP processing to them.
Of course LR4 offers search for a filename within a folder via CMD+F, but we don't need that actually.
we need CMD+F for the library search for foldernames or folders over a volume at least, but better would be various volumes.
are there any LR4 plugins or tools that solve this? Or did I oversee something?
I can of course search for any folder containing a file _DSC7561.nef outside of LR4 in finder with tools like "Tembo" or "Find any File" easily, but that don't jumps me to the folder in the LR4 library, with all my developement changes.
PS: we don't use keywords, it is not possible with TB of images each week but we use specific sequencing names for image file sequences and structured folders of course.
When working in lightroom 3.6 or 4.0 (I have both) use mostly 3.6 if you have finished working with a group of imported files and want to clean up all the libraries in the left column knowing that I would just re-import the photos if I chose to work them again from scratch, HOW DO YOU CLEAN UP the lirary. Most times I work with photos and do not need to save the library or catalog or whatever you call it that stores the settings done to a group of photos imported.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis issue occured shortly after update to 4.2, but not directly after. I am using windows 8.
The issue that occurs is after importing images they are adjusted automatically to develop module cross process 1. After dealing with this annoyance for a bit of time I realized that I can not even "RESET ALL" the images to delete the adjustment. In delving into other images that have been in my database for quite some time, I have tried to "RESET ALL", which resets images to CROSS PROCESS 1. I have never set import to automatically adjust.
Download and set up went OK, but what is the best way to transfer RAW files from Aperture into CS5 so I can work on them .

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am able to edit a photo in Elements 12 but if it is a raw photo it opens in camera raw. On these .nef files, when I save them, (comand-S) it still brings up the save as box. If I click file-save, same thing. I can not get these particular pictures to save over to my aperture library, which is still in the iphoto library if that matters.
I do have PSE Preferences as Save over current file, always save, file extension use lower case, (save as to Original Folder is checked as well.) When I edit from a jpeg in aperture, it seems to work fine, it is just the .nef files which is what most of my files are.
In Aperture my preferences are External editor, Photoshop Elements 12, Tiff 8 (I have tried PSD as well) and Adobe RGB Color. It seems like this worked in Elements 11, but maybe I hadn't tried a raw file, so I am not sure. Also, is Tiff 8 the best or is PSD better. Do they both save as layers?
I just upgraded from LR3.6 to 4.0. When trying to import images the import module freezes for a few minutes and then displays the import screen. However, when selecting a source the program freezes again and eventually crashes.
I had the same issue when upgrading to 3.6 some time ago and then found that disabling some USB controllers solved the problem. This works for LR4 as well. As I don't need all USB connections this is a workable solution, however, disabling controllers should not be necessary to run a program.
System is an Acer Aspire 7811 64 bits w/ Intel i7, Win 7 Home Premium, 8 GB internal mem and no external drives.
I'm using LR4 with a Canon camera setup (Wind 7 Ultimate). I've got the auto import setting all configured with an incoming folder and destination. The app recognizes when an image is put in incoming folder and in fact it moves it to the destination folder. What is really annoying is that it leaves me at the import settings dialog and then I have to make all these choices as I would if I were manually importing.
Shouldn't the images be places in the desination folder and some view of that image be displayed in LR? It could be the folder view or ideally I want to see the last image imported at 1:1 size so I can review it and see if I want to take another shot? Maybe there is some flag I've got set incorrectly.
My aperture / crosshairs seems to have a magnetic attraction to all objects in drawings. Over an empty area, motion is smooth. When crossing over any object(s), be they in Model Space or a Layout, the cursor is attracted to objects. Is this an AutoCAD setting that I'm not aware of, or is this a graphics card / hardware acceleration issue?
