Lightroom :: Can LR5 Libraries Be Viewed In Older Versions
Oct 15, 2013
I have used the 30 day LR5 trial and I don't love it and prefer LR3 that I have been using for the past few years. I've created some libraries though, and want to know how I can view them if I return to using LR3 after the trial.
I didn't import the images to Lightroom, rather, I referenced them on my HD.
Do I need to export them as an older version? Or save the images in another format?
As I have done for years I shoot in RAW and use Nikon transfer to load images from the card to my laptop and external drive. AFter I sort the images by subject I import them to Lightroom for the final touches. Not so with Lightroom 4.2 and Nikon D600..Adobe says if yousue transfer than 4.2 will not recognize the files and too bad ...as a company they are going downhill..I hope they correct the problem so I can import the 1500 images into Lightroom for final conversions.
Let's start with the business of getting titles across. Open the older version (VideoStudio 11, say) and create a project - on the time line of which you put all those titles you've spent hours putting together. Save the project as "DeleteNOW" in your main MyDoc's folder (where it's easy to find), and close VS11.
Open X4, and open the project you just saved. Create a new title folder, then highlight all the titles in the timeline and drag them to the title area above. Bingo.
It works with sounds too, so I assume it'll work with all other libraires, but have as yet to confirm.
A customer has PS 5.0, 5.5 and 7.0 installed. He needs to free up disk space. Can he safely uninstall the older versions without compromising 7.0 or are there files common to 2 or more installations that will cause 7.0 not to work?
I purchased the Photoshop CS about 5 years ago. My machine became dead and I no longer have the CD with me but I saved the serial number. Could I download this old version again?
I re-installed PSP X5 on new computer and no longer have masks from previous versions of PSP. Is there a source where I can download these legacy files?
I had autocad 2013 but it was infected with a virus so i was obliged to install 2012 version. problem is that all my files are saved as 2013 and would not open in 2012. How to save all files at once to older version?
I've been tasked with creating electronic versions of some older AutoCAD drawings for which only hard copies exist. There are a lot of them, so in an effort to expedite the process I thought I would try to scan the drawings and scale them appropriately so that I could just go through and trace the lines. I was planning on doing some sanity-checks of the measurements in the AutoCAD and actual drawings as well. This would save me the time of having to measure the length and angle between each of the lines on the drawing (to which there are wild variations) before drawing them in AutoCAD.
The problem is that these drawings were printed on some really large paper (Ex: 4ft by 6ft), so I can't really use a desktop scanner. My thought was that I could mount the drawings on a wall and take photographs of them using my camera instead. I would use the photographs to trace lines in AutoCAD.
I have heard that the new Photoshop CC uses a new file system that is not compatible with older versions of Photoshop so you can only edit them in the new Cloud version of Photoshop CC.
we have bought aclt 2013 and we have got a problem with some files created wtih older versions of aclt. When we try to open the file (plan), the file name appears but the progress bar don' t move then the file close.
I have created .dwg drawings in AutoCAD LT 2013 and have found that people with older versions of AutoCAD cannot open them. Is there a generic overall version of AutoCAD that I can save my drawings in that would be accessible to all versions of AutoCAD?
Is there a way to make PS X4 open up images the way it did in older versions... i.e. each image opens up as a stand alone floating box so I can have them side by side? (See attached image)
I have a newly downloaded version of AutoCAD LT 2013 that will not save files in older formats for autocad 2004 and 2007. When trying to save the user gets the following error message "One or more objects in the drawing cannot be saved to the specified format. The operation was not completed and no file was created."
I did some searching in the discussion groups and it appears that this is a known/common issue with autcad lt 2013. Is there a work around to saving it in a format that older autocad applications can view?
I installed 2012 a couple of months ago and have been working with it just fine. Recently, I cleaned up my computer and uninstalled earlier versions (2009,2010,2011) . Now, I am getting errors such as:
- error initializing sheet set manager -etransmit not working
I just started using the new Indesign CC and one of the features that I miss is the blue outline that would appear around textboxes. It would allow me see where my text was and move it around. The new Indesign CC displays text, but with no outline around the text, which makes it difficult to re-adjust the box size and move around my text.
Is there a way to enable the text box outline to show when designing (not when printing) as the previous verisons of InDesign did?
LR4 4.2 with ACR 7.2Mac OSX 10.8.2Nikon D600 NEF (Raw) files This problem has occured everytime I use LR4 and I've tried exporting to different colour space - sRGB, AdobeRGB with the same result. This is using my new Nikon D600, when I export a photo processed in LR4 and shot from my old Canon 400D the colours are almost identical when viewed in Preview with just the usual loss you would expect converting to sRGB.
I hope this is an issue that is being worked on for the update that will fully support the D600.
Basically the situation is that I have large number of originally RAW images (now jpegs) that look fine (to my eye) on my home computer but all take on a slight green tint when I view them through ios devices (e.g., my new macbook pro, ipad air, iphone). Wondering what's causing the difference in tints.
Background: Shooting for 6 years, all with a Canon Rebel and shot in RAW, processed in Lightroom. When I export to harddrive or photo sharing site, I set Lightroom export color space to sRGB and then export as jpegs. My home PC monitor color space also set to sRGB.When I view those exported pics via something beside my home monitor (e.g. a plasma TV), the color balance seems fine.
1. Does the color space setting in the DSLR matter? My understanding was that color settings in camera only influence jpegs from camera - - raw files carry no pre-set color space.
2. Could my monitor be out of whack or do Apple screens somehow use a different color space?
Can prior versions of inventor access current versions of vault? As in, can Inventor 2010 access vault 2013? Or does it have inventor 2013 and vault 2013?
I used to have a huge library already imported into lightroom while all the files stored on Drobo (external HD). At some point my main computer died (HD failure). After a full reinstall of the whole system from scratch, including LR I tried to reimport the same libraries again into new the new installation. Is there a way to reuse the old import or somehow recreate it? Or I have to do it all from scratch?
Is it possible to share your Lightroom library with a friend and retain keywords on each of your photos? For example, can I sync my Lightroom library with a friend's Lightroom so that he has all of my photos and the keywords that I have assigned to each photo?
for rendering purposes (we work on stop-motion-stop films) in our company's processing workflow, I export many different image sequences with 1000 or more JPG images from many different RAW NEF folders. All these folders with 1000s of RAW NEF files get developed and then exported as JPGs
- into folders on various volumes on servers. so other people then further render from these folders in AE or other hosts.
sometimes however, after a week or month, for whatever reason we need to re-develop original RAW NEFs of a folder of a specific set in it's original lightroom folder (from where those JPGs had been exported from).
By knowing a filename like for example _DSC7561.jpg out of a JPG export folder I then would like to quickly find and locate the original folder within the LR4 library, containing e.g. the file _DSC7561.nef from where that JPG was exported from (for specific reasons I can not change all those export JPG folders are on different volumes than the original folders with RAW file sequences).
So, when I sit in front of LR4 on the RAW development stations is there a way to find
- folders in the lightroom catalogue in volumes or over volumes (by their known folder name or part of their foldername)?
- filenames or part of filenames in folders over volumes, or within a volume?
it is so time consuming to scroll all folders to find an original folder with RAWfiles from where we developed and exported JPGs. we keep those RAW folders not only for the original RAW files of course, but also because of the XMP sidecar files with all the development changes. sometimes we even store snapshots or several stages of XMP processing to them.
Of course LR4 offers search for a filename within a folder via CMD+F, but we don't need that actually.
we need CMD+F for the library search for foldernames or folders over a volume at least, but better would be various volumes.
are there any LR4 plugins or tools that solve this? Or did I oversee something?
I can of course search for any folder containing a file _DSC7561.nef outside of LR4 in finder with tools like "Tembo" or "Find any File" easily, but that don't jumps me to the folder in the LR4 library, with all my developement changes.
PS: we don't use keywords, it is not possible with TB of images each week but we use specific sequencing names for image file sequences and structured folders of course.
When working in lightroom 3.6 or 4.0 (I have both) use mostly 3.6 if you have finished working with a group of imported files and want to clean up all the libraries in the left column knowing that I would just re-import the photos if I chose to work them again from scratch, HOW DO YOU CLEAN UP the lirary. Most times I work with photos and do not need to save the library or catalog or whatever you call it that stores the settings done to a group of photos imported.
I have a lot of photos in files and events in iPoto and Aperture. Would like to conso;idate all my photos inLightroom Master Photo file with those files and events as folders.
