Lightroom :: Copy Name Or File Name Missing (library View Options)
Mar 27, 2013In the process of trying to find out how to name virtual copies I came across Julianne Kost's blog which explained it very well.
However, I can't find the rather useful option of showing "copy name or file name" but rather just "copy name" or "file name" on their own. Since I'm using LR3 (Mac), is this a feature available only in LR4 or am I doing something wrong?
Lightroom :: Change View Options In Loupe View On Second Screen?
May 28, 2012The loupe view on the second screen used to display information about the photo. I double clicked on it and it disappeared and no matter what I do I can't seem to get it back.
On the primary screen this can be added/removed or changed in Library Module by selecting the menu view->view options... which gets you to a settings window where you can set what shows. However, I cannot seem to find a similar thing for the second monitor.
Illustrator :: CS6 - Reducing AI File Size Without Converting To Another File Type
Sep 12, 2013I designed artwork for a large banner (84" x 32") so my AI artboard is that large. As you can imagine, with all the text and graphics I used, this file size is 22.8 MB. I need to email this art to the printer, but the file size is too large to email. How do i go about reducing the file size in AI so it still maintains large format print resolution? Will saving to a PDF lose the print quality?

May 2, 2012I'm having trouble with the secondary display (window, in my case; only one monitor). When I first open the secondary display, either with a keyboard shortcut or by clicking, all is fabulous. The display modes (Grid, Loupe, Compare, Survey) are visible & clickable, as is thumbnail slider, file path. If I click or keyboard command to Loupe view, Normal, Live & Locked modes are available. However, if I close the window and then want to open it up later in my workflow, all of the aforementioned functions disappear. I'm able to bring up the Filter view, and can technically still work off the menu bar (and keyboard shortcuts, if remembered). But only if I restart the program do the full set of functions become visible again. The arrows at top & bottom don't collapse/expand to show anything more than a black border where the display & mode options once were.

May 20, 2012I realise there are pros and cons to this question and the temptation is to opt for the highest quality, but the file sizes are huge. So, my camera files will be mainly 1080 files at 30fps, what will be the best file type/size to save files for future use. I don't really mind the rendering time and space isn't a huge problem, but the variety of file types is bewildering. Most clips will find their way to DVD but I don't want to reduce resolution as they might be used at a later date for Blu-Ray.

If the "Idw" file contains an assembly, running the maco should say "assembly". If it contains only a part (ipt) then it should say "part"..Is this possible using a vba macro?
Illustrator :: File Saved As Small PDF Changes Type Point Size And Vertical Scaling
Oct 8, 2013I have an Adobe Illustrator CS6 document with body copy set using 6.5 pt. Helvetica Neue LT Std. - Bold Condensed & Light Condensed.
After saving the file as a PDF in Illustrator using the [Smallest File Size] setting, closing the file, and opening the newly saved PDF in Illustrator - the 6.5 pt. text is now 5.53 pt. with a vertical scaling of 117.65%.
This PDF is for client review purposes - on screen or laser print - not for reproduction. We try to keep the file size as small as possible to make downloading and e-mail attachments manageable.
In this case, my client is opening the PDF in Illustrator to double-check the text point sizes for legal & regulatory purposes.
If I save the same Illustrator file as a PDF using other settings like [High Quality Print], the text size is unchanged.
I was able to repeat the issue using Helvetica LT Std in place of Helvetica Neue LT Std.

Lightroom :: Changing Printer Properties - Paper Size / Type
May 25, 2012Why do I need to change the paper type/size in Lightroom everytime I want to print aphoto, even during the same session
I set the paper to say 15 * 18 and borderless and select print. The paper size shown in the top left changes back to A4 by itself. Try setting the options again and they remain as selected. Select another photo and try to print 15 * 18 borderless and the paper size changes again.
Lightroom :: 4.1 - Copy File Options
Mar 31, 2012I never had problems with LR4, but am now having export problems with 4.1
Mac Pro with 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)
LR 4.1 RC
CS 5.5 with ACR 6.7
When exporting an image into the External Editor for Nik Color Efex Pro I get the Warning Dialogue (cool) but when I click the tab (to read more) "Copy File Options", it keeps reverting to sRGB as opposed to "ProPhoto RGB" (my desired Space) and something I keep resetting in Preferences> External Editors>Nik... Why???
I'm hoping this will serve as a warning to other professionals to click that tab tpo make sure you are working in "ProPhoto" if that is what you desire. Because once the information is gone, well.....
I repeat that this was not a problem with LR4 and I was having NO problems with my External Editors. So from my computer, my standpoint, a bug has been Introduced.
Lightroom :: Decrease File Size To More Than Half Of Original Size
Dec 6, 2013My picture’s original size was 108.2 MB in tiff. After I developed my photo in Lightroom and exported the new image, the file decrease to 50MB in tiff. Why did Lightroom decrease the file size to more than half the original size? Is there a way to increase the exportation file size to that I may develop a large size print?

I'm used to easily importing RAW, Tiff and jpeg into LR3. For a reason unknown to me, LR3 now rejects all import requests.
Recent RAW files are shot on 5d mk3 into Capture One Pro 6.4.3-64bit. I thought it would be the camera so I tried to import historic files from jobs that I had already proccessed in LR3 but still no luck.
Tried importing regular tiffs, no joy either.

Sep 9, 2013I have a Nikon D800 (software up to date) and bought Lr 5 yesterday (software up to date). Watcehd Julieanne Kost TV series on Lr, very informative. I want edit my photographs with Capture NX 2 launching it from within Lr 5. Julieanne explained how to launch Photoshop and I have changed the settings in the dropdown menu for 'photo' to Cature Nx 2 and browsed to find it on my program list. It is now set as the editing program, but does not allow me to chamnge the file type to NEF, which is the filetype I want to use. I bought Lr 5 because the D800 was listed as a compatible camera for Lr 5.

Lightroom :: Final Print Size Does Not Match Screen View
Jan 24, 2014I am having problems getting my final prints to match the screen view. Most recently I have had this problem: I have an image that is sized to 5X7. I have it on a 5X7 template in the print module of Lightroom. The image dimensions in Lightroom say 5X7. I print on 5X7 paper (I actually measured it to be sure). ON the screen they look perfect, match the the templates and measure out fime with the onscreen rulers. Without fail a portion of the print is cut off on the final print. The long side of the print is the most effected. This is not just limited to 5X7's, it happens across the board. Is this a common problem or I am I doing something wrong? In the 5X7 example above the print comes out 5.2 X 7.3 give or take. I am using Lightroom 5.3 on an iMac running OS 10.9.1. The printer is a Canon Pro 100.

Jan 8, 2014I uploaded some photos from my phone onto my laptop. These seem to have disappeared altogether. They are no longer on my phone, they are not in any of the folders on my laptop (I have checked several times) and they are not in my laptop recycling bin either. Since this happened, I have notcied the appearance of many LRPREV files on my laptop, which I cannot open and I have not seen before. Putting 2 and 2 together, I am inclined to believe that the lost uploaded photos from my phone are the LRPREV files, and that they were somehow, unintentionally converted.
What are LRPREV files, and how do I open them? Alternatively, is there a way to convert them into a file type which I can open? where my uploaded photos may be?

Nov 6, 2013I am looking for some code that would allow me to select a MTEXT Entity - or other entity - (as the DEFAULT option) but also to allow me to type in some text manually or to pick a point in the drawing. Something that would present the user with:
"Select an object or [P to pick a point]" or
"Select MTEXT or [M to type].
I can write some code to type in text manually as the default option and get the second option to select entity using get string and then write some condition of if code but I don't know how to do it having entsel as default option.

Dec 27, 2012I am detailing a drawing with typical hole dimensions on a piece of steel angle. The drawing is setup such that the fabricator will have two options for each end of the steel angle. I have created two parts with the two options per end and have placed them outside of the page for reference.
I would like to reference each end of each piece, so that there are four pairs of views on the page (the two legs of the angle at each of the four ends), aligned in a grid. I have determined the best way to do this is with detail views. (Using breaks causes the break sign to appear huge, given the large gap I want between views. Using cropped views does not make it obvious that each end is a cutaway.)
My issue now is aligning the eight views. I know of the align options (horizontal, vertical, and in position), but they align to the "origin" of each detail, which is the center. With the angles being the same size, this works fine horizontally, but vertically, the pieces will never line up exactly, which is crucial to at least lining up the two legs of a single angle. The best I seem to be able to do is get the detail sizes as close to exact as possible so the centers come close to lining up. Even creating a projected view from a detail treats the cutaway end as part of the geometry, making it look a bit ridiculous.
way to precisely line up the views? I have done extensive searching and am confident that there is no inherent way to align based on a point or edge (seems like a deficiency on Autodesk's part), but is there a way to move the origin of a detail or something like that?
