GIMP :: How To Restore Layers Or Previously Saved Version Of Saved XCF Image
May 2, 2012I have a capstone lab project due tomorrow for my graphic arts class and I made a HUGE mistake!!! I created an image using 20 something layers and did SAVE AS as a .xcf image (with all layers open). Part of the project was to save in different formats: .xcf (with open layers), a .png, and a .jpeg (optimized). So, I did the first save and then flattened the image to SAVE AS a .png with a different file name.
Long story short, I was tired and had way too many images open at once. When I was closing all of the images I accidentally saved the changes (flatten image) to my original .xcf (with open layers)!!!! Now, my .xcf that is supposed to have open layers only has one layer...the finished project!! I tried going to the file properties to restore a previous version, but it says that no previous versions were found! I also downloaded a norton "unerase" utility, but maybe I am not scanning properly to locate the file!?!
Lightroom :: Last Image Saved Is Always At Right Hand End Of Film Strip?
Jan 31, 2013When in the develope module I have the film strip at the bottom of the page, I export the current image to CS 6 and then save from there. On returning to LR the last image saved is always at the right hand end of the film strip. You then have to scholl all the way to the left to find your next image to edit. Is there away of stopping this happening..

Aug 17, 2012Is it possible to either print or save an image that shows the crop lines from Lightroom (i.e. shows what is both in AND out of the image as it is cropped). I'm working off a scanned negative and I want to show my printer just how to crop the image. She was hoping to see both what's inside and outside the crop? Possible to get that to her either by printing that from my computer or emailing it to her?

Dec 17, 2012Please take a look at the attached dynamic block.
I have two flips in there, one verticle, one horizontal. For some reason, whenever I tell it to flip, and then select everything in the block, it doesn't flip the other flip's arrow.
Then, when I created the second arrow, and went back to include the first flip in the second flip's Action Selection Set, it doesn't pick it up. Doesn't matter if I do "modify selection set" or "new selection set"... doesn't matter if I select everything within (blue box) or everything that touches (green box).
Yet, when I highlight the icon box, it shows everything is selected.
Can flips not flip other flips?
Additionally, I want the rotation parameter to flip on the horizontal flip (so it stays outside the block), but I can't get that into the selection either.
What am I missing with these selection parameters?
Lightroom :: 4.3 - How To Make Metadata Saved To XMP File Stay Saved
Mar 12, 2013When a raw file badge shows that the file has been changed, I use Metadata Save to File & for the large majority of my images, the badge goes away and Metadata Status Changed does not show the file. For some of my files, however, the Save to File command doesn't work properly. If I am only displaying files with changes, the file briefly disappears, then returns. Even if I go to Windows Explorer and delete the xmp file, then again Save metadata to file, it pops up again with the badge saying it needs to be saved. I'm using Lightroom 4.3 64 bit on Windows 7.

My question really is how to invert or flip the image over so that his arms are facing the right? Aug 20, 2013I am trying to learn layers and layer masks. I loaded an image, than control J to duplicate it. I then added a layer mask. Everything good so far. I then went to filters chose a blur. Then went to brushes with black as my foreground color, I just wanted to brush away the blur, and got an error message. "could not use the history brush because the history state does not have a corresponding layer."

Jan 10, 2012Most videos from smartphones and a lot from point and shoot cameras are taken in vertical format.There doesn't seem to be a way to flip these videos so that they show up the right way.Video flipping is extremely important for video management. I don't want to preview and edit my videos sideways.Is this feature hidden somewhere or is it just not there?
I am currently using Lightroom 3 for photos and Usher for videos and I was hoping Lightroom 4 could be the single app to manage both.

Mar 24, 2013Everytime I try to use my history brush, that error pops up and I have no clue why. If I try to just open a blank document and use the brush it does not give me this error and I can "use" the brush but you cant see anything on the project.
so when this error happens im trying to do a project and say I place a file(picture) into the project and this is the very first thing I do. I place it, then I size the image down some. I then make a new layer to use the brush for behind the picture and then this is when I get the error. I have no clue what is wrong

Oct 12, 2007I am using Photoshop CS3 for a photography class. I was playing around with the Filters and Image Adjustments of one of my photos and my teacher really liked it. I thought I remembered what I did, but when I tried to replicate the result with another photo it didn't seem the same.

Jan 11, 2012I am shooting Infrared pictures and I already missed the channel mix function in LR3. Now I saw in the video of LR4 Beta that now the channels can be modified individually but I miss a channel mix function.
Is it possible with LR4 to flip red and blue channel, like it is needed for color Infraed photography, or do I still need to work with PS or PSE ?

I would like to know if it is possible to save the edit history of a file - for example if I open a file I worked on a week ago I want to be able to find out what work had been done to it (eg levels, sharpening, curves etc). As far as I know, history is lost after a file is saved (in a flattened image).

Apr 13, 2008I'm running Photoshop CS3 v10.0.1 on Vista SP1, brand-new HP Pavilion m8400f machine w/AMD Phenom 9500 QuadCore 2.2GHz, 3GB RAM, ~600GB free still on HDD, not even old enough to bother defragging yet. I have a nVidia GeForce 8500 GT video card w/256MB dedicated video memory. Driver is updated.
I was working on an image and had to walk away for a bit. While I was gone, it went into screensaver, and when I came back, after logging back in I found that the image I had been working on had reverted back to an earlier state and that the history was cleared. No error messages came up and Photoshop was not frozen, crashed or etc. Business as usual, except that the image was "old," and the history gone.
Luckily it was recoverable, but I'm concerned about this happening again when it isn't. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm fairly sure I didn't click anything by mistake, press a key I shouldn't have...
