Lightroom :: How To Import From 3 To 4 And Maintain The Same Look
Mar 10, 2012
I have tried numerous times to import from ver3 into ver4 and each time, no matter what I try, I end up with a different look (brightness, contrast etc.) The last time I tried, I reset both 3 and 4 to adobe defaults, then imported 3 to 4 checking none for presets and did not upgrade to image (left the exclamation mark), and the image in 4 looks substantially different that the one in 3. Also, all the sliders are readjusted with this "none" import. They are not at default, which would be zeroed, but all at different settings than the ones in 3. 4's image has less contrast and the color set in the hsl in 3 has been substantially lightened. What am I doing wrong? I read that others can get them into 4 (not upgrading, leaving the exclamation mark) and they are virtually the same rendering.
I have 2x user presets (one for each of 2x camera's), which I use to apply to images on Import.
When moving a catalog from my laptop (rMPB) to the desktop (iMac) (created of just one image folder), using the export / import catalog routine, these presets just list as "unavailable preset" in the Develop Status metadata sorting options in the library module.
I have exported these presets from the laptop and imported them to the desktop and then re- exported/imported the catalog but the results are the same. Is there a way for these presets to be recognized and sorted by correctly when importing a catalog?
I was wondering if there was any way to maintain stroke width (with antialiasing off) when importing/resampling vector files, like pdf. photoshop does this, i think.
i made a test case that shows the issue in the attached files. the PDF is a 1px-stroked square. when i try to rasterize it to 100dpi (or any dpi other than 72) using Gimp or any tool that relies on ghostscript for rasterization (imagemagick, mupdf, xpdf) i get a square with unevenly stroked edges. photoshop's algo maintains the stroke width in favor of maybe less optimal positioning.
is there any way to make Gimp or any other pdf->png rasterization tool (ghostscript included) prioritize stroke widths over positioning?
I would like to move from using Elements to using Lightroom. Whilst I realise that I can import my catalogue and photos, which should also create all my keywords, I am concerned that the existing keywords/tags parent/child structure would be lost? They would be created as a single contiguous list?
How to go about moving the tags across whilst maintaining the original structure AND remaining associated with the correct photos?
The usual import menue has the options for importing on the right hand side. My system is now showing an import dialouge box and the import dialouge on the right is greyed out. How do I get back to the standard import screen.
This issue occured shortly after update to 4.2, but not directly after. I am using windows 8.
The issue that occurs is after importing images they are adjusted automatically to develop module cross process 1. After dealing with this annoyance for a bit of time I realized that I can not even "RESET ALL" the images to delete the adjustment. In delving into other images that have been in my database for quite some time, I have tried to "RESET ALL", which resets images to CROSS PROCESS 1. I have never set import to automatically adjust.
I just upgraded from LR3.6 to 4.0. When trying to import images the import module freezes for a few minutes and then displays the import screen. However, when selecting a source the program freezes again and eventually crashes.
I had the same issue when upgrading to 3.6 some time ago and then found that disabling some USB controllers solved the problem. This works for LR4 as well. As I don't need all USB connections this is a workable solution, however, disabling controllers should not be necessary to run a program.
System is an Acer Aspire 7811 64 bits w/ Intel i7, Win 7 Home Premium, 8 GB internal mem and no external drives.
I'm using LR4 with a Canon camera setup (Wind 7 Ultimate). I've got the auto import setting all configured with an incoming folder and destination. The app recognizes when an image is put in incoming folder and in fact it moves it to the destination folder. What is really annoying is that it leaves me at the import settings dialog and then I have to make all these choices as I would if I were manually importing.
Shouldn't the images be places in the desination folder and some view of that image be displayed in LR? It could be the folder view or ideally I want to see the last image imported at 1:1 size so I can review it and see if I want to take another shot? Maybe there is some flag I've got set incorrectly.
I use Auto Import to import my RAW files. Each time LR imports my files the Previous Import count number increases. Is there a way to reset this count so it shows a true reflection of the photos from my previous import session?
Correct me if I'm wrong but if you manually import files the Previous Import count number resets itself automatically. I've Googled this problem & this question has been asked before - all users were utilising Auto Import.
I'm trying to import photos into LR3.3, and the thumbnails are grayed out, as is the import button. The photos come from two other cameras -- one Canon Elf, the other I'm not sure. I received them through dropbox, and they open fine with Bridge and Photoshop CS4.
How do I maintain links and bookmarks in a PDF? I recently created a multi-page document in X5 with links and exported to PDF. All of the links worked successfully in the resultant PDF.
Yet when I imported the PDF into X6 (and X5) for editing, the links had all gone. I'll need to edit on a fairly regular basis and I don't want to re establish the links (a lot) every time.
I have created an image by combining 2 images the model and the frame (finished1), because i need this image with a clear background when I save it as a GIF the image degrades (finished2) how can i save the image with a clear background and still maintain the details of the JPG?
I have one wall (basic wall) where !'ve edited to profile to have a large rectagle omitted. I have a second wall (curtain wall) that needs to occupy that space with a 1/2" gap on either side and a 1" gap along the top. I can maintain the gap along the top, but when the gaps along the sides shrinks below 1", the walls meet and the gap is reduced to zero. I've tried making the internal wall into a group, but whenever the outer wall's profile is edited to within 1/2", And I click the Finish button, the interior wall (inside the group) extends to meet it. Automatically Embed is turned off for the curtain wall. I've tried locked dimensions, but that didn't seem to work.
How I can maintain the gap without the walls closing?
In Photoshop, how do I keep the shot/creation date after editing/adjusting a photograph from raw to psd in order to keep hundreds of images in a chronological order? I am combining files with a second shooter on an event an the timeline is essential.
I created an action that includes changing the format in the Save for the Web feature to .png. When I run the action independently it works fine and saves the file as a .png, when I run this same action as a Droplet it saves the files as .psd. This has worked in previous versions, but I can't figure out why it does not work now. Perhaps something has changed in the File Naming section? This fails to maintain the .png format in both the Mac and PC versions.
If I change the size of, say, the "file open" box, and shut it down, then open it again, it goes back to the default small size. Is there a setting that I can change so that the dialog box size stay's to my selected size?
I patterned features but the material did not come along for the ride. I know I can change the material manually after the fact but I am making a parametric design so I want this to happen automatically. How do I do this?
I have several rectangular images each with a drop shadow. I need to also make thumbnails out of the same images. When I tried reducing the sizes of these images, I got inconsistent results regarding the drop shadows. Sometimes they grew, sometimes they got smaller.
Is there a way to reduce the size of images with drop shadows that keeps the shadows looking the same (relatively) as the original size?
I've come across a weird problem. Whenever I select a channel in the channel box ("Translate X" for example) it is immediately unselected. This prevents me from selecting a channel and middle-mouse dragging in the viewport to adjust its value.
This only happens in particular scenes. But if I start a fresh scene, I do not have the problem. Is there a button somewhere that I need to deactivate to fix this?
The plug-in does not retain the orientation of Diagonals on Editable Poly objects. This could have an impact on modified UV coordinates. Refer to the Online Help for more information. The following objects are affected: -Tube001
So, how to check, maintain or improve those diagonals? and what they mean "diagonals"?
I noticed that in 3ds max 2012, when i split an edge or detach a polygon the smoothing at that point changes and seam is visible. I think that in previous versions when i did the same thing the smoothing remained. Is there a way to prevent this?
Is there a way to stretch or adjust space dimensions but maintain the square footage? If I want to change the length by 4'6" can the width adjust automatically to maintain the square footage?
I'm making a .Gif with transparent background. I've added an alpha channel on all layers and erased background I don't want to move in all layers except the last one. I've set it to combine the layers in the "Save As" pop-up, dithered the image (positioned,) and enabled dithering of transparent while converting to index. Looks fine in Gimp, but after I save it, the alpha layer saves as solid black instead of staying transparent to show the first layer's background. I would like to stay positioned indexed instead of automatically as it keeps the integrity of the image better. Is there a step I missed in keeping the layer's transparent after saving?
I have scanned and downloaded 400 items in chronological order. When I upload them to DVD they are in random order. How can I maintain chronological order?
I have a 5 section book which I need to print. I usually export to a PDF then re import into a single indesign document. Then use print booklet to print the book. My problem is that I need bleed on my pages so I have set my page size to O/S A4 (32*22.5) When I export to PDF the pages end up A4. How can I export so the page size remains the same?
