Lightroom :: 5 Stuck In Preparing File For Editing Mode?
Oct 7, 2013
Lightroom is getting hung up when "Preparing file for editing" while trying to edit in external programs. Lightroom 4 did it when I tried to edit in Silver Efex Pro. Now I have a new computer and Lightroom 5. Lightroom 5 just started doing it when trying to edit in Silver Efex Pro AND Photoshop CS5.
I have a PSE 12 file stuck in the "edit mode". I ran completed a repair and an optimize on the catalog and the file is still stuck in the edit mode--I can't even delete the file from the catalog as the "delete" option is grayed out.
Occasionally my PS gets stuck in Move Mode. Only the hand icon appears in the picture I'm attempting to edit. If I select another tool via the tool bar, or short cut, the tool bar on the top line changes appropriately, but the tool icon in the window remains the hand (move tool). The only way I have found to resolve is close PS and re-boot the PC.
I have a multi layer psd and when I try to select a layer object and copy it, the copy function is greyed out and the only thing I can do is paste.
If I let it have its way, it pastes in a previous copy. After pasting, I try to copy again, but the paste function is the only one active. I can not get PS CS3 to let me do a copy.
I try to copy other textures and it still shows up. A few times I've been able to get a new texture, but for some strange reason it shows back up again. I don't even know where it comes from. I'm on a MAC and the I keep my textures in a few files on my desktop. It is not in any of the files I have.
when I activate walkthrough mode it's stuck in vertical rotation. ie I can only look up and down and not left or right. it only gives a keyboard shortcut which doesn nothing. How to revert this back to normal?
I'm using GIMP 2.8 on a windows machine. In single window mode I accidentally dragged the edge of the toolbox across my window and now it won't drag back. I get the resizer double-headed arrow but the edge won't move. I don't know what to do. It's entirely unusable in single window mode now, which is what I usually use.
I use the eyedrop to fix the photo in cs4 version. sometimes the eyedroper is stuck on grey mode and I dont know how to change it back to the regular mode where I can copy the color with it
I have two layers. Upper most with text is locked.Bottom layer is an image I have applied a transparency/gradient mask for the raster image. Now, seems my layers palette is stuck in a mode called 'Layers (Opacity Mask)'.Not seen this before, but this is CS6. How do I get out to the main, root level of the layers palette?
After opening a .jpeg file, I'd like to add text. No problem adding text. The problem is editing the text. Apparently, PhotoShop Elements 10 gets stuck on one font. And it can't be changed. When clicking on the down arrow (to change the font), the User Interface "jumps" up and down. But, the font won't change. I am able to change the color of the text, but not the font. I checked my System and there's no problems. I even did a Virus scan...none found. Is there a setting from within
PhotoShop Elements 10 that I'd be able to import the fonts on my System ?
My System : Windows 7 Professional / 32-bit and 3 Gb RAM.
A client has asked for an advert to be reset for magazine publication. For various reasons I am preparing it in Illustrator CC (mainly that I am more comfortable with Illustrator and it contains some reasonably complex effects and blending options). Anyway the time has come to send it to the printers and I have that heavy feeling that all is not well! The Publisher is asking for a PDF
There are two gradients within the artwork, the entire background is a photograph blending into a Black gradient (the body text sits in white over the black). To get the right effect the black gradient overlay has blending option - Multiply on it and being concerned it may not print propery or have transparency issues I chickened out and justt created one whole background image in PS (photo, gradient and all) and just imported it as a single jpeg back into Illustrator (ensuring I was working in CMYK).
But there is also an outer glow and drop shadow on some white text that sits over the Photograph. Do I need to flatten the image manually before creating the PDF? Or does the creation of the PDF do this for you? When I manually do this it displays correctly providing I tick Preserve Alpha transparency.
I work in Illustrator CC, the publisher has asked for Pass4Press Ver 9, but this preset is for Illustrator CS3. Are there no updates? and indeed does it really matter?
I've done quite a bit of research in the forums for a similar problem but not quite got any suitable answer. I'm running LR3.6 on WinXP SP3 with 4Gb RAM (3Gb useable). I'm trying to print 140 images setup on 7 pages each 16" x 24" JPEG size files (settings as below). Surely that should be a doodle? 2 hr+ later, I just have the "Preparing Print Job" progress bar doing nothing like it's expecting further input from me. No error messages, nothing, until I quit. Is there anything I should be watching out for? It's the first time I've tried to convert such a large collection to file and it's rather worrisome that I have these problems. case of "user error"
I have just downloaded and installed LR5. I have been using LR4/3/2 and have always successfully imported catalogs in the past. This time LR5 appears to do most of the work as a file almost the same size as the original LR4 catalog is created, but the "catalog upgrade in progress" message just freezes.Should I reinstall LR5?
I just purchases LR3 and am shooting with Canon's T3i. When I import the RAW files (CR2), LR3 does not recognize the files and will not open them for editing. I am using LR3 on a Mac.
I am importing into iPhoto and then copying the RAW files into a folder designated only for LR3.I've downloaded the Adobe Camera Raw 6.6 update and the LR3 Mac 3.6 update.what I am doing incorrectly as Adobe states LR3 supports Canon's CR2 RAW files.
if it is possible to take a camera raw file from lightroom and open it directly in Camera Raw for editing rather than use the editing in LR itself. I thought I read somewhere that it is possible to do this as an automatic setting - when choosing the "edit in Photoshop" menu option a raw file will be opened in Camera Raw and the changes tracked in LR. I prefer the Camera Raw interface in Ps so am hoping I can do this and then proceed on to Ps if I need to do further processing. I am using LR4 and Ps6 on a Mac with the latest updates. I am a recent convert to LR/Ps from Aperture so am still learning.
when i attempt to export, all editing that was performed in the DETAIL portion gets undone. my images become grainy just as the original RAW file. is there something i am missing here when exporting? do i have to change the RAW file after editing before i can export?
I have been trying all week to find out if there is a way to embed editing information into a file upon exporting it from LR. Can you use metadata? What I mean, is, years down the road, I want to remember how I edited a particular photo... Is there anyway for me to do that so it's in the photo's properties?
Have been working within a new layout. Inserted border & titleblocks. Then I created several viewports and established those views. Some how now all items created on the border layer [borders/titleblocks] do not display. They do how ever plot and preview. Did i enter into some editting mode to just viewport? How do I restore?
I shoot in raw and typically edit files as ProPhoto uncompressed 16-bit TIFFs. It's been a while since I set that as my default and I can't remember what the tradeoffs were for compression and even PSD vs. TIFF. Is there a handy reference to inform these choices?
After editing a photo in an external application, only the original raw file can be seen. The edited photo is hidden, even when searched for by name.
I have been reduced to the following workaround, which has the drawback of deleting all the original raw (.cr2) edits: Edit the photo; edit in external application; save and close. Back in lightroom, delete the raw file (from lightroom only); then close lightroom, reopen it and then at last I can see my edited file. Then I have to re-import the raw file and of course the edits have disappeared. But at least the final result can be seen.
The photos are supposed to be in a stack, but there appears to be a bug in this function because you can only ever see the raw file.
I want to butt two films together (which were made separately and titled separately) and currently still exist as project files within the suite and turn them into ONE film with some small further editing.
I'm using Illustrator CS6, Windows 7, Intel(R)Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU @3.40GHz, 16GB RAM, 64 bit operating system. I use the pattern editing feature a lot, and recently it's starting crashing, usually when I try to save after editing in the pattern mode (it's only just started doing this). I don't know why it's started doing this, and it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the complexity of the pattern.
I have some TIFF files I need to do some adjustments on. Mostly darkening the sky. Where the sky meets the foreground it is made up of tops of Spruce Trees.
My question is, can/should I use the adjustment brush in Lightroom to do this, or should I make a layer in Photoshop to do this?
I have found that when using the adjustment brush over the tops of Spruce trees, it is best to just paint over the whole thing, or else it will look artificial. Not sure if doing this in Photoshop would make my life easier?
I have just edited some photos for a friend who was short on time, and now she would like a list of the steps I took in editing. Is there any way of listing those steps in a text file I could send her?
Ever requested multi-image editing capabilities which would allow you to see more than one graphic (full size) on the screen at once? I'm constantly editing multiple graphics at once (often copy/paste into one or the other), or comparing two graphics side by side, and I REALLY miss this interface from the old version of Paint Shop Pro. (Not the new, devil version of PSP by that spyware bloatware peddling "Corel" company, I mean real PSP (version 5 or so), by JASC. Corel ruined that program! )
Example:
If this is possible to do in Paint.NET easily, another thing would be to provide a way to auto-layout multiple open image windows (attempt to arrange all open windows so that each image is fully visible with no window overlaps).
Using the editing "Guided" mode of Photoshop Elements 11 the working progress line hangs at 75% and Guided mode not works ! The "Quick" and "Expert" mode, instead, working well. I specify that I use Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 and I don't have Antivirus or Firewall activated..I have already tried to delete all Preferences, all Elements 11 cache folders, etc., tried to uninstall and re-install the Software..
