Freshly-installed Lightroom 5 stuck in "Preparing new searchable data" for hours.
Sure, I have tens of thousands of pictures, but why it takes so long and shows no progress?
It tried cancelling and starting over with no avail.
I have just downloaded and installed LR5. I have been using LR4/3/2 and have always successfully imported catalogs in the past. This time LR5 appears to do most of the work as a file almost the same size as the original LR4 catalog is created, but the "catalog upgrade in progress" message just freezes.Should I reinstall LR5?

Now I have a new computer and Lightroom 5. Lightroom 5 just started doing it when trying to edit in Silver Efex Pro AND Photoshop CS5.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor many photographers the IPTC Extended fields play a big role in organizing and finding images. Therefore it is crucial that this information is searchable. But neither the Text filter nor the Metadata list filter make use of this metadata.
This should be implemented since not being able to use IPTC Extended metadata within Lightroom is a big disadvantage.
I've done quite a bit of research in the forums for a similar problem but not quite got any suitable answer. I'm running LR3.6 on WinXP SP3 with 4Gb RAM (3Gb useable). I'm trying to print 140 images setup on 7 pages each 16" x 24" JPEG size files (settings as below). Surely that should be a doodle? 2 hr+ later, I just have the "Preparing Print Job" progress bar doing nothing like it's expecting further input from me. No error messages, nothing, until I quit. Is there anything I should be watching out for? It's the first time I've tried to convert such a large collection to file and it's rather worrisome that I have these problems. case of "user error"

My photo is on the screen after working with it, but I cannot budge it and when I go to print it thr Print module is blank and I cannot print the photo. How can I get out of this bind?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI imported over 200 pics into LR 4.1 earlier today. I then noticed that I still had a Beta 4 folder in my directory, so I deleted the folder since I'm using the full and laterst version of the software. When I tried to relaunch LR though I was asked to select a catalog, so I selected a file called "Lightroom 4 Catalog.lrcat." LR opened but the catalog was empty...none of my pictures were there! Fortunately, I hadn't emptied my trash and was able to retrieve the Beta 4 catalog, which is what LR 4 was looking for and, in fact, contains all of my pictures. So, I'm back in business but it seems strange that I'm still using an outdated version. I'd like to use the new catalog but don't want to lose all of my pictures.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use lightroom to tether but recently I have not been seeing my image in lightroom. It is stuck on "transferring files from camera." However, the folder I have linked to Lightroom has the image. I have updated everything and have disconnected and reconnected every cable and it is still not working. I don't think it is the camera since I am getting the image in the tethering folder. I want to be able to see it in the Develop section of Lightroom so I can make sure I have the shot and edit if necessary.how to get it to transfer again?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't want to appear dense but Lightroom 5 appears to be stuck in full screen (Windows 7 64 bit). The FILE, EDIT, ... drop down menus only appear after carefully hovering near the top of the screen and the minimize, full screen, and close buttons never appear. I don't want to close LR to check email, browse, or kill time while it is rendering previews.

you hover over the pin of an active brush and the overlay appears.you move off the pin, but the overlay stays.when you now continue to brush, the overlay is erased in shrap edged, blocky strokes as if the brush was a square shape with no feathering.
From all I can remember, it seems to be triggered only by larger brush sizes. Toggling the brushes panel or the overlay usually clears it up. It seems to be purely a display glitch not affecting the actual brush.
We’ve seen this happening in LR3, so it’s not new.
Is there a way to search for text through all the DWG files within a drive (note, not just within a file or a folder)?
we lost all data on a drive (a RAID, no less), and had to do a raw file search for files. So what we ended up with is a pile of files that the reconstruction software figures is a bunch of "word", "pdf", "excel" and ... "dwg" files, but no directory structure, no date, and _no_ file names!
We are able to search easily PDF, WORD, and EXCEL files, but not DWG files. We know about the search facility in AutoCAD (we are using LT 2012, soon to install 2013, but not before we deal with this issue since the file structure changed). We're on Windows 7, but aren't on a server.
I have been asked to plot my drawings to "PDF's that retain the text (as text) from the original design application. And then when the PDF is opened they can do a serach for a specific text"

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been banging my head on this for a couple days now and to no avail. I am accessing 2004 DWG files through AutoCAD 2013 in order to update dates and re-print to searchable PDFs for our facility team, however, I cannot get the DWG text (stand alone or room tag attribute) of the file to become searchable in Acrobat X. Being a 2004 file and due to previous manager decisions, all text in the DWG file is an SHX style, and I've attempted to change over to the True Type format in hopes that it would clear the issue up, but the base DWG file doesn't seem to agree with changing current fonts for either stand alone or within the ROOMTAG block itself. I've tried all settings in the Acrobat "convert to PDF" settings menu without success.
I'll be migrating all of our drawings into a Revit format for this effort next year so this is the last year for the "legacy" drawing files that have accumulated over the years...and I've already tested this in Revit with much success!
Any method other than 'font mapping' to convert drawing file to PDF with text searchable feature. Because we are having huge repository of drawing files its difficult go back and do font mapping. Even its works for only at MTEXT.
So, any converter which converts the drawing file to PDF with text searchable PDF.
I am trying to turn on the stock number field under customizable fields within vault, however stock number is not an option...has this always been the case?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently upgraded to Gimp 2.8.3 on my Mac OS Snow Leopard, primarily for the new "export to PDF" feature that would keep text searchable within PDF.
The results are very odd... The text in the exported PDF is, indeed, searchable and copyable, but the font size shrinks drastically (see attached screenshot).
capturing screenshots, that will be for print. The company that I work for has a book being made that requires several figures from screenshots. The book is being printed in B&W. I do not have access to any other screen grab program other than Grab, and was wondering if anyone has any advice for making these grabs the best quality they can be for print. I am obviously concerned with resolution, but also the general quality of the images, bluriness when printed, as well as loss of quality and contrast when converted to B&W

I have saved my work first as .xcf for later editing. Then I save my work as .png that I have created with a transparent background. However, when I go to put them on the websites I am building there is Always a white background. ??
Even when I upload them to Photobucket there is a white background. But when I make .png images in Inkscape they load fine to Photobucket with no white background but again, when I try to put the Inkscape .png images on my websites they too have white backgrounds.
Also, when I save files with a transparent background as .gif and upload them to Photobucket the transparent background is there but the images look just awful. They are no longer smooth around the edges & look like the pixels are sticking out all around the images.

I've been using Dropbox to send images to my biz partner and both the .png and the .gif are showing up with white backgrounds in Dropbox as well.

I have been working exclusively in Photoshop, but a printer has asked me to provide files in illustrator. The files are for a 1:1 print job (packaging) and do not need to be enlarged. Is there any reason why a printer would not be able to use Photoshop files? Also is there a way to convert the files to illustrator or an equivalent without any loss of quality?

I export my work as an ai file, but he tells me that my images that I convert to a grayscale bitmap are rgb, the text that I copy and paste from Microsoft word have random open characters that are filled in (like o's) and are multiple blacks even after I change them to pantone process black u and that my black is not plain Pantone black (there is no plain BLACK in my pantone pallettes). I use process black u and 100% Pantone 300 U.

If I shoot a big painting, the resolution of detail - brushstrokes, canvas, imperfections adds to the overall feel of the image. If I shoot a tiny/small image with the same lens/camera and it fills the screen those details look like a relief map of the Himalayas! Can I get around that? I notice that sharpening can make a difference but what are the principles here?
I'm attempting to create a layer property filter so that all used layers except xref ones show up. I can use the Invert filter option, but that doesn't stay checked between sessions for some reason. How can I set up this property filter?

I have an A4 peice of paper and need to change the scale of my drawing so it fits onto the page. I remember there was a short cut, but have since forgotten it.
It is currently at 1:1 and want to change that to a more appropriate scale.
I'm pretty familiar with preparing files for print in Illustrator and am currently using CS6. However, I'm not at all familiar with preparing files for printing on non-white fabrics (a black t-shirt in this case). I've had a hunt on Google but haven't yet found a simple answer to my question which is this:
The logo is red and black on a white background (shown below). How do I make sure that the white area prints as white and not "no ink" as would happen when printing on white stock?
There will be a small run initially, so will probably use a heat transfer method rather than screen printing at this point.
A client has asked for an advert to be reset for magazine publication. For various reasons I am preparing it in Illustrator CC (mainly that I am more comfortable with Illustrator and it contains some reasonably complex effects and blending options). Anyway the time has come to send it to the printers and I have that heavy feeling that all is not well! The Publisher is asking for a PDF
There are two gradients within the artwork, the entire background is a photograph blending into a Black gradient (the body text sits in white over the black). To get the right effect the black gradient overlay has blending option - Multiply on it and being concerned it may not print propery or have transparency issues I chickened out and justt created one whole background image in PS (photo, gradient and all) and just imported it as a single jpeg back into Illustrator (ensuring I was working in CMYK).
But there is also an outer glow and drop shadow on some white text that sits over the Photograph. Do I need to flatten the image manually before creating the PDF? Or does the creation of the PDF do this for you? When I manually do this it displays correctly providing I tick Preserve Alpha transparency.
I work in Illustrator CC, the publisher has asked for Pass4Press Ver 9, but this preset is for Illustrator CS3. Are there no updates? and indeed does it really matter?
Using Corel to prepare images for cutting on a CNC plasma table. any easiest way to prepare images for cutting. With merging images, Lettering and original art work transfer. I need to convert to a DXF format to drop into the machine program (Sheetcam). I have used trace with some success. By this, I mean that the image "looked" good, but I seem to be doing something wrong because the graphic will not run on the machine.
