I have been working exclusively in Photoshop, but a printer has asked me to provide files in illustrator. The files are for a 1:1 print job (packaging) and do not need to be enlarged. Is there any reason why a printer would not be able to use Photoshop files? Also is there a way to convert the files to illustrator or an equivalent without any loss of quality?

How do I include bleed margins and crop marks?
I tried to achieve this by creating a custom page oversized from A4 to accommodate crop marks and a 3mm bleed margin. When I exported this as a .pdf I got a displaced image within an A4 page. How do I create a suitable file?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have created artwork in Photoshop and my dpi was set at 72 dpi for web display. Now I would like to print these but at 300dpi. If I change the dpi it reduces the physical size of my original image and I am afraid that the final print quality will be compromised. How can I be sure that my original image quality will be preserved? Also my original physical document size ranges anywhere from 7-8 inches wide to 8-10 inches high.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've done a bit of photo retouching on faces before: removing skin blemishes, changing eye colour, etc. I've only ever made subtle changes though; I saw a before and after of a photo retouch job on a model that went into a magazine (can't find the link now) and the difference was staggering! Does any one know of a tutorial or reference guide that takes you through the techniques? I know it's a huge topic but I know my way round Photoshop and I'm keen to know the techniques rather than a step-by-step guide.

I do not have access to any other screen grab program other than Grab, and was wondering if anyone has any advice for making these grabs the best quality they can be for print. I created a brush representing a period of a tyre tread. I want to stroke path a path with it to make it look like a tire mark: >>>>>>>>>>>>>. My problem is the single brush marks are distributed far too close together.
Where in brush palette or wherever can I make the parameters fit?
I originally put this with a post on saving for web but I think this is a bit different.
If I shoot a big painting, the resolution of detail - brushstrokes, canvas, imperfections adds to the overall feel of the image. If I shoot a tiny/small image with the same lens/camera and it fills the screen those details look like a relief map of the Himalayas! Can I get around that? I notice that sharpening can make a difference but what are the principles here?
I have a Makerbot Replicator 3d printer for my class. I am having issues when I save my drawing as an stl file bring it up in the Makerware software it decreases the size and I can't get things to scale. I have been in contact with Makerbot for several months and their response is now: "We actually may have had a bit of a breakthrough! Apparently there's something off about the way that Inventor exports files to .stl, and there may be a bug in our software when scaling. Whenever exporting to .stl, especially in metric apparently, Inventor makes the object 10% of the size. To correct for this, can you try scaling your model by 1000%, then exporting to .stl and bringing it into MakerWare? Send me a copy of the .stl either way, and let me know how it goes!" and "The issue is not something we can fix because it's not an issue in MakerWare.

View 7 Replies View RelatedThis post is regarding using Designer Pro to edit print ready PDF's (with crop marks, colour bars etc) created using Photoshop and Illustrator. I can do the edits, but if I try and export the file it corrupts (colour values change, some text changes col)
The files are supplied to me by a designer and sometimes I need to do urgent changes myself before going to print. I have unticked the 'add printers marks' box to avoid a double set of marks and colour bars and have the fonts installed too.
I'm attempting to print from LR4 print module to a Canon Pixma Pro 9500 using a mac platform. I have 25 contact sheets to print (don't ask!!) and it's taken me 2 days so far and I have managed to print 18 of them. The printer is working. Lightroom appears to be working.

I have saved my work first as .xcf for later editing. Then I save my work as .png that I have created with a transparent background. However, when I go to put them on the websites I am building there is Always a white background. ??
Even when I upload them to Photobucket there is a white background. But when I make .png images in Inkscape they load fine to Photobucket with no white background but again, when I try to put the Inkscape .png images on my websites they too have white backgrounds.
Also, when I save files with a transparent background as .gif and upload them to Photobucket the transparent background is there but the images look just awful. They are no longer smooth around the edges & look like the pixels are sticking out all around the images.

I've been using Dropbox to send images to my biz partner and both the .png and the .gif are showing up with white backgrounds in Dropbox as well.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI need information on a couple of issues. I create a newsletter for a public library in CorelDraw on a pc and my printer uses adobe on a mac. I export my work as an ai file, but he tells me that my images that I convert to a grayscale bitmap are rgb, the text that I copy and paste from Microsoft word have random open characters that are filled in (like o's) and are multiple blacks even after I change them to pantone process black u and that my black is not plain Pantone black (there is no plain BLACK in my pantone pallettes). I use process black u and 100% Pantone 300 U.

I'm pretty familiar with preparing files for print in Illustrator and am currently using CS6. However, I'm not at all familiar with preparing files for printing on non-white fabrics (a black t-shirt in this case). I've had a hunt on Google but haven't yet found a simple answer to my question which is this:
The logo is red and black on a white background (shown below). How do I make sure that the white area prints as white and not "no ink" as would happen when printing on white stock?
There will be a small run initially, so will probably use a heat transfer method rather than screen printing at this point.
Lightroom is getting hung up when "Preparing file for editing" while trying to edit in external programs. Lightroom 4 did it when I tried to edit in Silver Efex Pro. Now I have a new computer and Lightroom 5. Lightroom 5 just started doing it when trying to edit in Silver Efex Pro AND Photoshop CS5.
