AutoCAD 2013 :: Room Tag Blocks Not Searchable In Exported PDF
Oct 12, 2012
I've been banging my head on this for a couple days now and to no avail. I am accessing 2004 DWG files through AutoCAD 2013 in order to update dates and re-print to searchable PDFs for our facility team, however, I cannot get the DWG text (stand alone or room tag attribute) of the file to become searchable in Acrobat X. Being a 2004 file and due to previous manager decisions, all text in the DWG file is an SHX style, and I've attempted to change over to the True Type format in hopes that it would clear the issue up, but the base DWG file doesn't seem to agree with changing current fonts for either stand alone or within the ROOMTAG block itself. I've tried all settings in the Acrobat "convert to PDF" settings menu without success.
I'll be migrating all of our drawings into a Revit format for this effort next year so this is the last year for the "legacy" drawing files that have accumulated over the years...and I've already tested this in Revit with much success!
I have recently upgraded to Gimp 2.8.3 on my Mac OS Snow Leopard, primarily for the new "export to PDF" feature that would keep text searchable within PDF.
The results are very odd... The text in the exported PDF is, indeed, searchable and copyable, but the font size shrinks drastically (see attached screenshot).
I am editing an old file set up by another firm that is used by our clients to keep track of room sizes etc, which has a room data table and room tags tied to area polylines. It has worked just fine on our 2013 Acad Architecture, but when I sent them (saved down to 2010) back to our client, using 2012 Acad Architecture, the tags disappear and the table is unpopulated. It seems like it must have something to do with the file originally being created way back when, along with some quirk between 2012 and 2013.
I have a Room Tag (multi-view block) that was created in a previous release of AutoCAD Architecture that is not coming in at the correct scale in AutoCAD Architecture 2011. When we used to insert this block into an 1/8"=1'-0" drawing, it came in at a scale of 12.0,12.0,12.0. Now when we insert it into a 1/8"=1'-0" drawing, it comes in at 9.0,9.0,9.0. So, at 1/4"=1'-0" it comes in at 4.5,4.5,4.5; when it should be 6.0,6.0,6.0. I have many custom blocks that we have created for door tags, section refs, etc. and would just like to know what scale factor needs to be adjusted to fix this small issue.
I have two part files: Part A and Part B. Part A contains a sketch block, Block A, which will be used as a basis for Part B.
I derive Part B from Part A using a "Derived Part" to bring in only the sketch block (Block A) from Part A. When I do this, Inventor sets every dimension in Block A to "Export" and creates a custom iProperty for it. Then the Custom iProperties list in both Part B and Part A is cluttered with every dimension from Block A.
Is there any way to prevent it from creating all of these custom iProperties?
I was trying to export a dwg file from Illustrator CS5 in order to edit the drawing in AutoCAD and keep the layer structure. Unfortunatly it results in a bunch of mistakes... some layers are not exported, some layers appear in AutoCAD as blocks.
I have a project in wich rooms functionality is compromised. I don't know why the room tool doesn't recognise a simple room delimited by walls whose property divides rooms is set to yes. If I place a rectangle of rooms delimiters the room tool works properly instead. If I start a new project the tool works properly.
I am using the ALIGN command to overlay two groups of blocks, I'm then using some VBA code to export the coordinates of the blocks to an excel sheet to make comparisons.
The issue I'm having is when I use the ALIGN command the coordinates exported are different to those in the drawing (but only for those moved using the ALIGN command).
I don't get this issue when I use the move, rotate and mirror commands, only ALIGN. What may be causing this?
We recently updated all of our software at my company from 2010 architectural desktop to 2013 autocad. We do a lot of architectural work where we use the "wall" functions to draw our floorplans. I have noticed that the walls are disappearing on some files and not on others. Or we will only be able to see the outside line of the wall, but not the interior, which results in an undesirable appearance to the floorplans.
I have also run across these error messages when opening the files, I dont know if they are related or not:
"Unhandled exception C0000005 (access violation reading 0xffffffff) at address E43AA180h"
and
"Unhandled exception C0000005 (access violation reading 0xffffffff) at address D41218AEh"
Is there a way to search for text through all the DWG files within a drive (note, not just within a file or a folder)?
we lost all data on a drive (a RAID, no less), and had to do a raw file search for files. So what we ended up with is a pile of files that the reconstruction software figures is a bunch of "word", "pdf", "excel" and ... "dwg" files, but no directory structure, no date, and _no_ file names!
We are able to search easily PDF, WORD, and EXCEL files, but not DWG files. We know about the search facility in AutoCAD (we are using LT 2012, soon to install 2013, but not before we deal with this issue since the file structure changed). We're on Windows 7, but aren't on a server.
I have been asked to plot my drawings to "PDF's that retain the text (as text) from the original design application. And then when the PDF is opened they can do a serach for a specific text"
Any method other than 'font mapping' to convert drawing file to PDF with text searchable feature. Because we are having huge repository of drawing files its difficult go back and do font mapping. Even its works for only at MTEXT.
So, any converter which converts the drawing file to PDF with text searchable PDF.
I am trying to turn on the stock number field under customizable fields within vault, however stock number is not an option...has this always been the case?
I got this big file of a map, and, when I paste the different pieces of the map, some of them are invisible. I already erased all the scale stil but it doesn't work. The files are there but i can't see them, i think there's something wrong with the blocks.
some attributes you can double click and edit within the dialogue box, others you have to double click and they are greyed out in the box, you have to click the little button with ... on and edit in place on screen... why?
whats the difference between the block atributes? attached is an example...
I am inserting some mechanical changes into my master drawing (updating my as built drawing). I copy with base point the hvac changes, I paste into the master drawing and all is cool; the block looks fine. When I explode the block, the text and some hvac blocks (like elbows with attribute) are way out off scale, like way bigger than they should be.I don't get it.
We are currently moving from 2009 to 2013 and have a variety of drop down menus and palettes. I want to promote the use of the ribbon menus and new set up.
What is the best way to set up the block libraries? Could I just use the Design Center references block drawings?
Is it easy to convert existing palettes / menus to the new format?
I am confused how the blocks work in AutoCAD 2013. I previously had 2004 and had an add on called ARCH T. This add on had an entire library of blocks. Although, the new version of Arch T that I would need to buy is $1000... so I'm trying to avoid that. I know you can insert blocks from within AutoCAD. But the process confuses me. In the design center, it seems like I just need to go to a drawing file and it pulls up blocks that are already within that file. But its not necessarily all of them. Is there a way to get all the blocks in one file to pull from? How does this work??
For many photographers the IPTC Extended fields play a big role in organizing and finding images. Therefore it is crucial that this information is searchable. But neither the Text filter nor the Metadata list filter make use of this metadata.
This should be implemented since not being able to use IPTC Extended metadata within Lightroom is a big disadvantage.
When I type in the command "SC" for scaling the object, it'll asks me to specify base point then I can enter what scale I want it to be, such as 2 times or 0.5 for half sacle.
with the new 2013 version, sometimes it'll exit the command if I select the insertion point of the block or if the object is at the 0,0,0 location of the drawing. it'll also give a message of "the scaling factor is too small". But I haven't enter what scale I want to scale the object yet.
When exporting from AutoCad to pdf, from paper space, my blocks come out looking strange. I was having the same problem with text but fixed that by converting to Arial. I am exporting to an Arch E size. I have found that when I am zoomed out to show my entire campus, this is when I my problem occurs. When I am zoomed in to show a specific area, export is fine.
Using AutoCad 2014. Files saved back to version 2010.
I have opened an exported .dwg file from Vectorworks. I have been able to hide most items I wish to. My difficulty is that I have (what I think from reading and Youtube) is dynamic blocks (light instruments). They are on a layer that is turned off, yet they are still visible. I've played around in the block editor, but I really don't know what I'm doing. If need be I can delete the light instruments, but I'd rather not. If there is a command to hide all blocks? I tried to use the properties editor to change the color to white so they would disappear. That didn't work.
I am trying to copy and paste a bar scale from one drawing into another at 0,0…. But it won’t show-up, as you can see from the attached there are 17 blocks in this drawing but none of them will show-up, I have even tried to re-insert the block but still no joy….. I have re-started AutoCAD, even the computer but still nothing…….
