I am working in Illustrator CS4 and I am currently having a problem resizing text boxes to either enlarge them to add more type or reduce them to eliminate unused space within the active box. When I place the cursor on the corner of an active box, I get a square symbol instead of an arrow which would indicate that I can change size. All I can do with the cursor now is move the position of an active box.
View 6 RepliesEvery new document seems to open with a default text size of 12 pt. (or 0.167 inches). I am a sign maker and my typical artboard size is often 120" x 120" or larger.
Is there a way to change the default text size so that new documents open with a text size of, say, 1 inch (or 3 inches, etc)?
Is there a way to change the size of the text that comes out with the printers marks?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm currently working on a project which involves over 16 artboards in the same document, though when i want to change the order of the artboards [for saving as a PDF] i have to move all my artboards content to new artboard, etc.etc. This is really annoying, especially when i want to insert a new artboard between some excisting ones.
So is it possible to somehow change the order of the artboards, or they numbers [basically the same]?
Setting a stroke profile (variable line width) on a closed shape changes the stroke width from narrow to wide. I would like to have the "wide" width in a different place and a "narrow" width somewhere else. I guess a way to do this would be to change the node orders of the closed shape?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using a symbol that includes a several text boxes. Each text box includes "prompted text" and "drawing properties". When I insert the symbol onto a drawing, the "Edit Property Fields" menu appears. In this menu, I can input my prompted field text or see the various "drawing properties".
My question is, how do I change the order that these property fields are displayed? It seems as if it depends on the order that the text boxes were created while defining the symbol definition. Is there any other way to change the display order?
I create a text box and paste in the info into it. Now I want to resize the box to fit the space available but the handles end up changing the font size. I need the software to change the auto line feeds as the box's size is changed.

But since the text frames were extracted by create order, not by layout, I want to ajust the oder from top left to bottom right first, then export.
I thought it could be done by selecting all the text frames first, then sorting the selection orders by loop. But I don't know how to select all the text frames, and not sure whether this is the right way...
Here I have several concentric squares in an uninterrupted stack.I moved the topmost (small orange) one vertically.I then went to the Alignment panel, selected all the squares and clicked on the one I moved.Then I clicked on Vertical Distribute Center.
The right hand picture shows what happened.One of the squares (that big orange one) near the bottom of the stack shot up so that its centre was above the centre of the topmost one in the stack.The centres are evenly distributed but why is the stacking order not controlling the order in which the squares are arranged?
Fortunately the positioning of that big orange square was easy to correct, but something tells me this is not the way things are supposed to happen.Seemingly this does not always happen. I have tried the method on several stacks. Some were o.k., others showed similar behaviour to the above.
I am creating a layered marine chart with reference points. I've imported the chart and am creating text layers with a reference number in them.
I have about 700 of these to add - a daunting task - but it's for a NZ coastguard unit, so is worthwhile.
The idea is to have a layer with all our reference points on it, so when a chart is updated, we can just import the chart; add back the reference points layers and print it out.
(Why? NZ baynames, danger spots etc usually have 2 names; an english name and a maori name - sometimes we have to cross reference when on the water to find the correct place).
Is creating text layers the best way of doing this?
Is there any way of increasing the size of all the text - instead of having to edit 700 text layers?
I am working on a banner for my Youtube channel, and I want the text to fill the safe text area needed for the banner. Thing is, I don't know how to change the pixel dimensions of a text box.

It is set to copy the last size I used but when I need to edit the size, it multiplies what I enter by 8 and turns inches into feet. In other words, I try to resize 6" to 3". The text editor will then multiply 3" x 8 and size the text to 24 feet.

I go into dimension style manager, I click on modify and I click on the text tab but the text height and fraction height scale is greyed out!
If I click on "new" dimension style the only option I get is to base it off my current dimension style with the text size greyed out again.
How to change the text size of dimensions if at the option is greyed out?
I opened a PDF in Illustrator and it has 4 Spot color swatches. Two of them will not delete or let me alter them and I need to change them to CMYK. I've tried reopening the document, restarting my computer and copying and pasting everything into a new document. Nothing has worked for me. I've also tried selecting everything, and going to Edit > Edit Colors > Convert to CMYK ... and then making a new color group (with global checked.) Still won't let me edit the two problem swatches. I then went to "Select all unused" from the swatch panel (thinking they would at least get selected because all of the colors should link to my new global color group) and the two problem swatches did NOT get selected. I've tried deleting all the links (thinking maybe the spot color was tucked in an eps file or something.) No objects are locked and none of the layers are locked.

I go into a viewport and try to change text size from say 1000mm to 600mm but when I enter the text becomes HUGE as if it is in paper space.
I can get around it by scaling the text, but why it happens?

I am using PSE12 with Mac OS X Mavericks. If I use the type tool, type some text then want to change maybe the font or size, the text disappears! If I set the parameters before typing everything is OK, but it is really inconvenient.
Also when I do a return in text the first letter of the next line is always a capital whether or not I start a new sentence!
