Setting a stroke profile (variable line width) on a closed shape changes the stroke width from narrow to wide. I would like to have the "wide" width in a different place and a "narrow" width somewhere else. I guess a way to do this would be to change the node orders of the closed shape?

If I make an art brush, say two solid rectangles when I apply this to a shape such as a square or star, there is a corner/point that doesn't seem connected, I get a gap/split. I'm guessing it is where the brush has started/ended along the path. These shapes are closed though right? Is there a way to avoid the gap/split? I noticed if I use the pen tool to give the point handles it'll seem connected, however now the shape is not a corner.

I know I can also use the appearance panel and set two strokes aligned along the outside, but this does not seem easy to update sizes, say I had 7 strokes for a rainbow for example each at 5 pt and wanted to update that to 7pt I would have to manually update each one? I also don't think I can use the appearance panel to set up a gradient stroke that flows along the path, such as a square with rounded corners applied, when I tried with the appearance panel it was as if it was masking a gradient beneath it.

I am using CS6, though I'm planning to switch to CC.
I'm trying to create a star icon with lines through it. I used the star shape builder tool and then the line segment tool, but the lines are not being recognised as part of the star shape. For example, when I try to turn the star, the lines remain in the same place. This is pretty much exactly what I am trying to make, but I can't form the segments into one cohesive, editable shape.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm currently working on a project which involves over 16 artboards in the same document, though when i want to change the order of the artboards [for saving as a PDF] i have to move all my artboards content to new artboard, etc.etc. This is really annoying, especially when i want to insert a new artboard between some excisting ones.

I am working in Illustrator CS4 and I am currently having a problem resizing text boxes to either enlarge them to add more type or reduce them to eliminate unused space within the active box. When I place the cursor on the corner of an active box, I get a square symbol instead of an arrow which would indicate that I can change size. All I can do with the cursor now is move the position of an active box.

View 2 Replies View RelatedHere I have several concentric squares in an uninterrupted stack.I moved the topmost (small orange) one vertically.I then went to the Alignment panel, selected all the squares and clicked on the one I moved.Then I clicked on Vertical Distribute Center.
The right hand picture shows what happened.One of the squares (that big orange one) near the bottom of the stack shot up so that its centre was above the centre of the topmost one in the stack.The centres are evenly distributed but why is the stacking order not controlling the order in which the squares are arranged?

Fortunately the positioning of that big orange square was easy to correct, but something tells me this is not the way things are supposed to happen.Seemingly this does not always happen. I have tried the method on several stacks. Some were o.k., others showed similar behaviour to the above.

usually when I use the 'divide' command I can leave the nodes on the drawing as they are only dots which appear hidden within the line by the time I'm printing, but this system is set up to plonk huge great crosses on the drawing

I have a series of boxes or polygones that I would like the program to find the 1/2 distance and create two seperate polylines from the one object.Â

I have a square with pt1,pt2, pt3 and pt4 respectively. After I have ran the program it would create a diagonal from pt1 to pt3 and join the rest of the lines now to create the one polyline. Also it would do the same to create another exact polygonal shape for the other half. Thus creating two shapes of equal value from one.
The nodes on my path tool seem awfully big. They get in the way of seeing what i'm editing. I've noticed on some tutorials the nodes are quite small. Is there a way to change their size?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI try to anti-alias or matte the edges of a shape in order to make a transparent gif/png of it without having pixelated 'hard edges'. The current situation is that I have a selection of some shape in GIMP. Below the layer with the shape in it, I stroke the selection of my shape with a lighter colour by using a fuzzy paintbrush. This gives me some sort of anti-alising effect, but it isn't any close to the matte option in the 'export for web' dialog of Photoshop. Because I really do like GIMP, I am curious if there is a better way to get anti-aliased shapes using Gimp?

View 4 Replies View RelatedTrying to work with gradient mesh colouring the nodes and every few nodes I colour the selection stops working and i cant select the mesh. Doesn't matter if which selection tool I use or even the gradient mesh tool its still the same issue. I can see the mesh lines and when i click with any tool on the mesh lines will show up in black but i cant select it to see the nodes. The only way that i've found around this is to save the work, close the file and reopen it. It's starting to be a pain as im having to do this every couple minutes.

I've done all CS6 updates and still getting the same issues so now im stumped.
I'm using Illustrator CS6. When I create a simple overlapping daisy brush and apply this to a rectangular path the corner tile seems to have lots of nodes. I apply the brush to the path and then expand appearance. Image attached
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have used PEDIT to join multiple polylines, which now appear as polylines. But when I use QSELECT to show all open (non-closed) section, one polyline still shows up as open.
I've attached the file I'm working on. The polyline in question is the green outline on the object on the right.

I've noticed that sometimes when I use an artistic media brush around a closed path, I can't change the brushstroke color without filling the path with that color; see the attached file for an example. I thought that was just unfortunately the way it was.But today I watched Jeff Harrison's video tutorial [URL]...about making a custom brush. He applies it to a closed path, and then, to my surprise, he changes the color and it just changes the color of the brushstroke.
I followed the tutorial, made the brush, applied it to a rounded rectangle, all fine. However, when I changed the color, the center of the rectangle filled with the color as well as changing the brush color, as it always has for me in the past. So what's wrong? Do I have some setting somewhere set to the wrong thing? (I don't have Fill Open Curves checked.)
I am having trouble with hyperlinks in a CorelDraw X5 document. Every time I close the file, then re-open it, I find that the hyperlinks have changed. This seems like a bug to me, but if not, how to lock them so that this doesn't happen?

What does the article mean by "Nodes Tool"? It's written there that I should draw a triangle using the polygon tool and then using Nodes tool > Make selected nodes symmetric I will get that shape in the photo above, But I cannot find neither the Nodes tool nor the symmetric nodes option I'm using Adobe Illustrator CC

I outlined my text and subtracted it (and the tree image) from the black background. When I did this both appear thinner - particularly the tree.

If I then take the original version and the new subtracted version, and view them both overlayed one on top of the other in wire frame (outline) mode, there is no difference in the actual lines.

It seems to be a problem with the way illustrator previews the images. This wouldn't concern me, but when I export the file as a jpeg, the lines also appear thinner in the export.Â

I can create a manual solution by offsetting the path before subtracting, but this isn't ideal.
What does it mean when Illustrator v.15.1.0 ceases to contract a shape using offset paths and will only expand a shape? Seems like only yesterday I could render both ways. Wait a minute, it was only yesterday! Why would it suddenly stop funtioning?

View 3 Replies View RelatedText is allowed only on the outside of a rectangle shape. The text cursor disappears when I try to enter it into the rectangle and when I place it on the edge of the rectangle, it rurns into a slanted "A" and allows texting on the border of the rectangle. Corel Paint Shop Photo Pro X3 (build date Sept 7, 2010). This software came with my new HP Pavilion dv7.
