Illustrator :: How To Scale Object From Larger To Smaller
Sep 19, 2012
It doesnt matter what i do. when i try to scale any object from larger to smaler, even when its on a group. it deforms the positon of the ancor points i think its a bug. because it doesnt matter what i do whit the configuration, its still bothering to the point that is really unconfortable to work.

I've been working on this project in Illustrator for a day or two now. All of a sudden, all objects, both preexisting and newly created, have a very large purple bounding box.
In order to alter the size of the object, I have to find the corner of the large bounding box. I have a feeling it may be a setting I hit as this began happening after I was fiddling around with adding more artboards.

I have a jpg file from which I need to crop a 128x128 section and create a bmp file from it.
I've cropped the image and copied it into a new file. But when I go to save it (as .xcf), I see my smaller image but it is centered within a gray border that is the size of my original image. I want just the 128x128 part and nothing extra.
I've attached a screen shot to show what I am dealing with.

I have bunch of images (starting usually from 50 to 300MB with layers)
I'm flattening and making sure 8 bit. Most are ending up about 48MB. but some are ending up 80 MB and others 15 MB. what determines these oddballs being so large or small after being flattened?

I have changed Canvas size a thousand times in my life and this has never happened before.
I have an image that is 1600 px wide and I want to trim the sides to 1260. When I start to even type in the smaller size, the file size indicated is larger (that was my first suspicion that something was not right). And sure enough, it is making the image larger?

I created this using Gimp 2.6 on Mac 10.5: [URL].......
When I resize this to a smaller image, the text gets all distorted: [URL]......
I have been looking around on Google, but couldn't find much.Tried scaling with all the different ways (Linear, Cubical... etc). Also tried scaling from XCF and PNG files. Nothing seem to maintain the quality of the text on the image.

I use ctrl+ the number pad to change the point size of fonts. I just got thinking, it would be nice to use the same commands for making the current selection larger or smaller too. Maybe 2 and 8 would be down and up by 1 percent of current size and 4-6 could be 1% of original size. 5 would be 'return to 100% of original size.

I have just had a new 1TB internal hard drive installed in my PC and then the original smaller internal 500GB hard drive cloned onto it. The new 1TB is now Local Dick C and the smaller 500GB has been changed from C and is now Local Disk F. PSE11 is running from the new C and all my pictures are on both C and F but the catalogue is pointing to F. I want to delete all of the old files on F to free up space since they are all cloned to the new 1TB C, so I want the PSE11 catalogue to point only to the pictures on C. I have tried creating a new Catalogue and importing my pictures from C. The images come in and look connected to C but, when I close PSE11 and then reopen that new catalogue, the image path reads F, as does the original catalogue. So, now I have two catalogues apparently point to F but I want to: 1) have only one catalogue pointing to C; 2) the delete catalogues pointing to F; 3) then reformat F: so I have a clean 500GB old hard drive for future expansion.

It seems like the Warp tool is just another way to scale an object though it allows you to scale only the selected portion of the object that you touch with it. Is this correct? Does the Warp tool have other functions?

I'm trying to put a picture (subject on a plain background) on a grid, with the picture being pixelated enough to match the scale of the grid, but I'm getting stuck trying to keep the detail of the picture as the grid step gets larger. (see below) Sounds impossible, but i know i'm getting caught up in the maths somewhere. Is there a way to manipulate the picture to get the detail in the bottom pic to transfer to the larger grid step of the top pi without changing the size of the grid?

I am not sure whether this involves annotative block.
My RCP at 1/8" scale looks okay. Yet in my 1"=10'0" POT plan,
I would like these exit lights/signages to appear double in size when printed,
(since POT is merely a schematic)
From 1/8" scale to 10' scale (96 to 120), the symbols by logic should appear
80% smaller, not larger.
Can this be done with annotative block?

I'm using MaxDesign 2013 and 2014. Both have the same problem. When I work on something that is scaled for an architectural sized project with units set to Feet and the extents about 1000 Feet the display is difficult to work with. The objects, mostly simple boxes, are torn and missing faces. Intersections are sawtooth.
A few years ago I had the issue but I had mistakenly created a model that was miles wide instead of inches and Max had a hard time with it. Once I recreated it in the correct scale at about 10 inches all was well. But, Max is used a lot for architecture so a scale in feet that spans a few thousand feet should look good. The way it looks now there is no way to evaluate intersections, shadows and simple geometry relationships.
I can't seem to correct it. I went back to Direct3D from Nitrous and that didn't work. I've attached a view.

How to make the dimension get bigger and smaller as we “scale” the drawing?
For example, the drawing in the screenshot below is scaled by 0.5 but that didn’t affect the “size” of the dimension (height of the text, extension lines, …).
Is there a way to get the dimension line affected as we scale the drawing such that the “dimension text” and the “extension line” are increased/ decreased with the scale factor?

When I open a new drawing in my AutoCAD 2013 that I just recently installed last week, I encounter a problem that I am not familiar with from previus versions of AutoCAD I have worked on. First of all, the units default to decimal, and I want them to default to architectural, with feet and inches. I have to type UNITS in the command line every time I open a new drawing in order to adjust this. I have AutoCAD for Architecture 2012 on another computer, and the program automatically defaults to architectural units upon opening up. Just to let you know, the program I am having this difficulty with is part of a package called Autodesk Building Design Suite 2013. I was under the impression that it included AutoCAd for Architecture, but I think it has only standard AutoCAD.
The scale of the objects I draw vs. the scale of the drawing field is very out of proportion. What I mean is, when I open a new drawing and draw a 30' -0" line, the line appears so long on the screen that I cannot see the whole object, even if I zoom out to the maximum. I should be able to see the object in it's entirety. In fact, when I draw a line that is only 12" long, even when the zoom is all the way out, the line looks huge in length. I have tried adjusting the units to the architectural/inches setting of course, and I have tried adjusting the scale in model space from 1:1 to 1/4'=1'-0", but nothing is working.

I would like to find a lisp that changes the scale of something that has an annotative scale and deletes all other scales in the object scale list. Often i have many different scales of existing dimensions or objects. i waste a lot of time opening the annotation object scale dialogue box, selecting add, finding my scale and deleting the old scale.

I have a simple object that I want to morph between the original and a smaller version of the same thing.
I made two copies "start" and "finish". I then selected the original part and then Create/Compound objects/Morph. Under "Pick targets" I ticked "Copy" and then selected the first target ("start") and the second target ("finish") ready to set animation keys.
When I select the first target the original part moves randomly to another position in the scene. If I change the pivot point of the object it changes where it moves to but still moves it somewhere else in the scene?
If I move the original part back to the correct location the animation still has incorrect movement?

Resizing objects is a mess in CorelDRAW X6 when objects are outlined with Scale With Object enabled to retain proportions after resizing.
None of the tools dealing with outlines (e.g. Contour or even Outline itself) continue to work properly after resizing the object.
I strongly suggest to recalculate outline property values after resizing if Scale With Object is checked. Don't just do it hidden somewhere internally in the object model by applying a temporary scaling factor. Instead actually recalculate the actual property values if Scale With Object is checked.

the expression in question is part of larger lisp routine to create and rotate text based on the object selected and the viewtwist variable (we use dview twist to rotate our views when needed)
So the expression in question:
(< (/ pi 2) ang (* pi 1.5)
where ang is the total angle used to determine proper rotation of the text.
Now the problem. In most cases where ang = 90 (or 1.5708 radians) this works fine. the two exceptions i have encountered
in testing are a line at 70 degress, viewtwist 20, and line at 50, viewtwist 40. For whatever reason at these two conditions the expressoin evaulates True instead of nil and rotates the entire text object incorrectly (180 degrees). So question is how exactly is this being evaluated? i know its comparing ang (* pi 1.5) to (/ pi 2). is there some sort of rounding error? or maybe the expression needs a wee bit more definition? attached image and full lisp routine for reference of what is happening, blue text is angle of the line as created by routine at viewtwist 0.

I've used the Gradient Tool many, many times and I just now noticed this. I don't know if it's supposed to do this or not but I don't ever remember this happening before. As you can see when I use the linear setting and I change the angle to anything other than 0, the UI of the gradient gets much larger. This makes it difficult to edit especially when the angle is set to something like 45 degrees. The sliders are almost unreachable.

Units: pixels - Is there really no way to get keyboard increments smaller than .01 for the ultra-fine nudging? In previous versions (at least to CS4 tmk, allowed for increments up to 4 or 5 decimal points. Granted, I don't use below .001 that much, but I definitely use that quite a bit.

I'm using Mac OSX and have just upgraded to CS4, from Illustrator 10. Our house style is a gaussian blur of 10 pixels, but it doesn't display correctly in CS4 - it's much thinner. I've had this problem before and just exported from CS4 then created the blur in Illustrator 10. On Wednesday last week I tried CS4 again and the blurs displayed at the correct size, then on Friday afternoon (I had used the blur tool successfully in the morning) it started making the blurs too thin again.
It's set to 100% on all the different projects with 10 pixel blur, so why are my gaussian blurs thinner in some and not others in CS4, but all the correct width in Illustrator 10? This is really frustrating as it would be such a waste of money not to be able to use CS4, and have to go back to Illustrator 10.

Every time I open an image in Illustrator, it is 3-times smaller than the original image started out. For example:
An image starting out with the dimensions:
Width: 5.35 inches / 1070 px / 385.2 pt
Height: 5.24 inches / 1048 px / 377.3 pt
Once it is opened up in Illustrator the dimensions are contorted to:
Width: 1.93 inches / 386 px / 139 pt
Height: 1.89 inches / 378 px / 136.1 pt
And this is just from opening the image. I have not done anything as of yet. All I have to look at is a distorted pixelated mess. Why Illustrator is doing this to my image files and how do I get it to open image files with the proper dimensions?

I am a hardcore Photoshop nut lol but I have recently approached learning how to use 'AI' to create my company Logo so that It can be Vector based and therefore Re-size it according to web and print as needed.
You've properly encountered this problem lots of times and i'm properly being really silly, but I am having major problems re-sizing and it, causing pixelisation on my Image, esp when going to 'Save for web and Devices'.
I did have 'drop down shadow effects' on the Logo but I believe I have deleted all of that in Appearences, Incase it is the raster effects causing the problems... but even back at its seemingly basics, I'm still having the same problems.
I tried making the Image smaller using the 'scale' & 'transform' tool before taking it into 'Save for Web and Devices' and even on my artboard it now looks pixelated..
My Artboard size is 1200 x 1200 and in 'Save for Web and Devices' it says the Original Image size is 800 x 600 (which I believe is the size of the document I chose when starting my project)...
I tried Playing with the PPI in the 'Document Raster Effects' settings, this doesn't seem to be making a difference.. Infact I'm sure playing with all the settings has almost caused my edges already to not be as sharp in view: 100% (RGB/Overprint preview) as they once were and I don't think I have the original document to go back too, due to thinking the Logo was fine, before relizing I had a problem in resizing & saving.
I have tried all of the save options in 'Save for Web and Devices' but still the Image looks pixelized, even when ignoring previewer and going ahead to re-opening the saved Image.
I've spent hours trawling the web tirelessly without any result and after being so happy with the Logo, it would be such a shame to have to delete it and try and start all over again either in Illustrator or back in Photoshop (where I know the quality won't be as good)..

I'm making a swatchbook (Pantone ® style), with a large 100% swatch and three smaller ones (5%,25% and 50% ink.). Right now I've got a 7x7 grid with all the swatches as I want (see screenshot), however the other 26 other pages only have the 100% swatch. Is there an 'automated' way I can make the smaller swatches in the 3 different percentages?

When I create a new file in AI CS 6, the artboard is larger than requested size, which shows up as a box within the too-big artboard. For example, when I create a new file, I set the artboard size menu to 1200 pixels wide by 750 pixels high, but the artboard created is about 6,000 pixels high and wide, with a black outline of the 1200 x 750 artboard that I tried to create. The actual artboard is much larger than the white area; I just cropped most of it in my photo software to show it here. What setting in the preferences or other menus fixes this problem? I didn't have it until today, so something got set incorrectly somewhere. I usually just see the 1200 x 750 white artboard against the dark background. It also seems to be happening now when I simply open an existing file. The artboard has suddenly increased to an enormous size.
