Units: pixels - Is there really no way to get keyboard increments smaller than .01 for the ultra-fine nudging? In previous versions (at least to CS4 tmk, allowed for increments up to 4 or 5 decimal points. Granted, I don't use below .001 that much, but I definitely use that quite a bit.
View 1 RepliesCannot make snap to grid to work, tried the following and while trying I came across another issue. If align to pixel grid is unchecked when opening new documents then snap to grid does not work, but the smart guides don't work either. They appear only when the align to pixel grid is rechecked in the transform panel. Now no snap no smart guides either.
Is there another option other than in preferences for the snap to grid to work or the smart guides to work?
Also, I set my grid to lines every 10mm subdivisions every 1mm and my keyboard increments to 10mm so why then does my 10x10mm no stroke no fill square move 11mm with each keyboard stroke? Set this up so that the object would then snap to the grid, but it does not, whether or not the align to pixel grid is checked or unchecked either way it does not work.
Latest lion latest illustartor update, in the wishful thinking that it would fix it, but still have the same problem.
deleted the cache too still nothing.

When I have a graphic selected and would like to "nudge" it just a little, if I use one of the arrow keys, it moves it alot. I don't know where to go in preferences (?) to make any changes, and then I'm not sure what to look for to do so.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have used many different video editing packages and really like videostudio. The high quality output and many features make it a solid product.
However, I am confused why there is no way to change the speed of an audio or video clip in smaller than 1% increments. 1% is a very large increment, even when dealing with a 3 minute clip. An exact sync is near-impossible. .1% would be a great deal better.
I see in the 'change speed' dialog that you can also choose the clip duration, down to 10ths of seconds. But when I do this it seems to 'snap' to the nearest percent.
Is there no way to change the speed in smaller increments than 1% or am I missing something?
I'm used to working with a zoom that increases by 10% per click below 100%, and 20% above that. Is there a way to duplicate this? Using a drop-down menu is just too slow.

In a document that is 20 cm square, I have to set the drop shadow to 0.07, 0.07 and a blur of 0.08 and in a document 90 x 55 cm, the drop shadow is .2, .2 and blur .3. I thought it might be in my preferences General is cm, Stroke and Type .. Points. Using CS6.

At the moment, I have two handles on different adjacent points selected, and am able to move them incrementally using the direct selection tool and the arrow keys, but I don't know how they originally came to be selected (I discovered that they were accidentally), or how to transfer the selection to another handle. I'm using CS6.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm using Mac OSX and have just upgraded to CS4, from Illustrator 10. Our house style is a gaussian blur of 10 pixels, but it doesn't display correctly in CS4 - it's much thinner. I've had this problem before and just exported from CS4 then created the blur in Illustrator 10. On Wednesday last week I tried CS4 again and the blurs displayed at the correct size, then on Friday afternoon (I had used the blur tool successfully in the morning) it started making the blurs too thin again.
It's set to 100% on all the different projects with 10 pixel blur, so why are my gaussian blurs thinner in some and not others in CS4, but all the correct width in Illustrator 10? This is really frustrating as it would be such a waste of money not to be able to use CS4, and have to go back to Illustrator 10.
Every time I open an image in Illustrator, it is 3-times smaller than the original image started out. For example:
An image starting out with the dimensions:
Width: 5.35 inches / 1070 px / 385.2 pt
Height: 5.24 inches / 1048 px / 377.3 pt
Once it is opened up in Illustrator the dimensions are contorted to:
Width: 1.93 inches / 386 px / 139 pt
Height: 1.89 inches / 378 px / 136.1 pt
And this is just from opening the image. I have not done anything as of yet. All I have to look at is a distorted pixelated mess. Why Illustrator is doing this to my image files and how do I get it to open image files with the proper dimensions?
I am a hardcore Photoshop nut lol but I have recently approached learning how to use 'AI' to create my company Logo so that It can be Vector based and therefore Re-size it according to web and print as needed.
You've properly encountered this problem lots of times and i'm properly being really silly, but I am having major problems re-sizing and it, causing pixelisation on my Image, esp when going to 'Save for web and Devices'.
I did have 'drop down shadow effects' on the Logo but I believe I have deleted all of that in Appearences, Incase it is the raster effects causing the problems... but even back at its seemingly basics, I'm still having the same problems.
I tried making the Image smaller using the 'scale' & 'transform' tool before taking it into 'Save for Web and Devices' and even on my artboard it now looks pixelated..
My Artboard size is 1200 x 1200 and in 'Save for Web and Devices' it says the Original Image size is 800 x 600 (which I believe is the size of the document I chose when starting my project)...
I tried Playing with the PPI in the 'Document Raster Effects' settings, this doesn't seem to be making a difference.. Infact I'm sure playing with all the settings has almost caused my edges already to not be as sharp in view: 100% (RGB/Overprint preview) as they once were and I don't think I have the original document to go back too, due to thinking the Logo was fine, before relizing I had a problem in resizing & saving.
I have tried all of the save options in 'Save for Web and Devices' but still the Image looks pixelized, even when ignoring previewer and going ahead to re-opening the saved Image.
I've spent hours trawling the web tirelessly without any result and after being so happy with the Logo, it would be such a shame to have to delete it and try and start all over again either in Illustrator or back in Photoshop (where I know the quality won't be as good)..
I'm making a swatchbook (Pantone ® style), with a large 100% swatch and three smaller ones (5%,25% and 50% ink.). Right now I've got a 7x7 grid with all the swatches as I want (see screenshot), however the other 26 other pages only have the 100% swatch. Is there an 'automated' way I can make the smaller swatches in the 3 different percentages?

The case is, i got a pdf file and then i am using illustrator to edit it and then save as pdf.
After that, i found that the pdf file size is quiet large. Someone know how to make the file become smaller but not using those compress software such as winzip and etc.
I've made a sketch in Photoshop Elements. The resolution was 743 by 663 pixels. I'm wanting to finish this in Illustrator, but when I open the same file (I have tried both PNG and PSD so far with the same results) in Illustrator, the image is extremely small, yet it says it is zoomed in 100%. In order for me to draw on this, it needs to be the same size that it looked like when it was opened in Photoshop. I understand the image is not actually resized, but the scale makes it appear smaller. And I also understand that illustrator's "pixels" measurments are incorrect (or so I have been told and observed).
I attempted simply rescaling the image myself with the select tool, but unfortunately I lose resolution and some of my sketch lines when I do this.
I'm not a master at any of these programs, so if you have an answer to how I could get the image scale to be "normal,".

I would like to break it into two seperate shapes: a top half, and bottom half. I need to remove some between them though.
Unfortunately, I cannot make the scissor tool, knife tool or cut path tool work correctly. It just doesn't seem to work, no matter whether I have anchor points selected or not.
I have also tried duplicating the object and trying to delete anchor points until I'm left with one of the shapes. However, because of the ordering of anchor points, I end up with a blue line connecting one end of the object to the other.
I've got a large file that is about 72x54. I want to cut it up into pieces that are about 24x18 and print it pieces that I will tile together as a whole image after I print them. Is there a way to save out my file as 24x18 pieces?

I have an AI, vector based, logo that I'm trying to fit onto a business card template. The logo is primarily text, with a circle surrounding one of the letters. The circle has a stroke that narrows on the right hand side to a tiny sliver. I am selecting all three layers (the top line of text, bottom line of text, and the surrounding circle), holding down the shift key to preserve the proportions, and grabbing the little box in the bottom corner to shrink the whole selection. As I make the selection smaller, the surrounding circle around one of the letters becomes fatter, changing the look of the logo. How do I correctly make the logo smaller, without converting it to a PDF or JPEG?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to copy an exact measurement from one item to another but Illustrator is rounding the measurements down to the cloest decimal pont. For example I want my icon to sit on 66.21 px but it rounds it down to 66 px. Below in the middle is the icon that I amtrying to align. I want the 4 red squares to sit in the same middle as the stroked sqaure surrounding it. The surrounding sqaure is expanded because I am using this at various sizes and want the stroke to be consistent.

I will have to keep bringing them into Inkscape and exporting them as PNG from there after doing all the work in Illustrator.
When saving a pdf from Illustrator, close cropped PSD images have a dark edge of pixels in the final PDF. It looks like a black outline when viewed in Acrobat. I have since found if I flatten the transparency before saving as a PDF , it displays fine. Why is the PDF having problems with Illustrator’s use of transparency?
