Illustrator :: How To Change Brush Orientation With Respect To The Path
Jan 15, 2013
Its a simple problem. I hope I'm missing some easy option, but no matter how I change the options in the brush dialogue, the brush always has the same orientation to the origin path. See the image below:
The brush is rather large and complex, but I've never seen this happen before. No matter which of the direction buttons are pressed, the brush remains the same. Is there another way to change the orientation with respect to the path?
I love the new versions of Illustrator, but get left in the dust with new innovations that I can't figure out.
I am trying to go to File > Document Setup and all I get is a new dialog box that completely leaves out page orientation and page size as well. I just want to have an artboard that is 11" x 8 1/2" but there is nothing I see in menus or in palettes that give the old comfortable page orientation change that you used to be able to do in older versions of Illustrator. How do I set page or artboard size and orientation?
I'm having a problem with the Blob Brush tool where I can't change the basic brush to something else. Whenever I pick a brush I want and I try draw with the Blob Brush tool, the brush I picked reverts back to the basic brush. Here are screenshots:
I pick a brush that I like first
But when I start drawing with the Blob Brush tool, it reverts back to the basic brush automatically
Am I doing something wrong or is the Blob Brush tool only capable of using the basic brush?
Upgraded to Illustrator CS6 and as I paint with the brush, it only shows the path while drawing until I release my Wacom pen. I want to see the shape of my line as I'm painting it.
1.) The type "Mariners" sloping downward in an arc. I was able to get the Seattle part using type on a path on a circle and typing on top. Question is, can I also type Mariners on the bottom of that path? I recall that not being the case. Am I supposed to draw another circle over the one that Seattle is typed on and then on that one type on the bottom?
2.) For the stitching, am I supposed to create one stitch and then create a brush, draw a curve and then apply the brush to that curve?
I've got a little problem with making a nice path with pre-made brush. I just uploaded image to IL and made a brush based on it. Works great, but there are rounded joints on connections. Is there is some way to get rid of those rounded joints and make it straight, like nice continuous line?
I have a crown I'm working on and I applied grunge brushes to the diamonds and shines. I would like to remove the grunge and keep the lines as they were before, smooth and clean. Is there an option or quick fix to do this? I created these diamonds and shines a long long time ago or I would just cmd+z. I have not expanded the paths, I have kept them them the same .25 stroke and no fill
I'm trying to trace a new map using parts of two maps. I can trace the parts I want of one map, imported as a template, but now I want to import the other map as a template, and reposition my tracing over the second template. When I import the second template, it's in the wrong place (as expected), but I can't move my tracing layer to a different place over the new template -- both layers move together. Is there a way of moving layers independently?
When drawing a path with the brush tool and then placing the brush back over an anchor point to continue the path, sometimes it continues the path and sometimes it deletes the path and just starts a new one. Why does it sometimes add to the existing path and sometimes start a new one?
I'm trying to select a portion of a path by using the direct selection tool and shift clicking on the anchor points. But when I click and drag the brush over onto the path, the brush stroke is applied to the entire path..... which I dont want to happen. I only want it applied to the section of the path.
So, I use many of the same brushes. If I copy a path from a file that uses a certian brush to another file that uses the same brush, I get a duplicate of the brush in the brush panel.
I've made a pattern brush that I'm using to simulate a woods line for a boardgame map:
Shown above is the unstroked bounding box as well. To use this brush, I draw an outline of a woods mass with the pencil tool, then apply the brush and Expand Appearance. At that point I'm hoping the brush sections will join into one closed path so that I can fill it with a woodsy green, but instead the fill gets applied to each section of brush independently:
The join points seem fine - it's not like the two ends of the brush don't line up at all: EDIT - Actually, that's not just one point in the middle there - that's the ends of both paths lying almost on top of each other. It's possible to separate the two and then ctrl-J join them. Problem is, I want that single path automatically.
So how to get Illustrator to treat the resulting path as one closed path instead of a compound path?
So, I haven't been using Illustrator (CS5) for a two weeks and I always create calligraphy brushes on the go, so I don't save them. However, out of the blue, I can't change the brush diameter to change with pressure nor the other options because they're greyed out.
Im using a Genius G-Pen M712X and mac osx 10.6.8..
Yes, I have CS2 for Illustrator, I got it through college.Anyways, I was working on vectors and was drawing strokes and being able to see the guide line (I suppose that's what you call it) in the middle of the stroke path.BUT, I must've selected something wrong, because I can't see the line.I restarted PC even, rebooted AI, and still can't see it.I used the Pen to draw some lines, but I don't see the blue line that is shown when you drag and change the curve of the path.I opened up a new window/file and when I drew the path of the Pen tool, I was able to see it again? Was it just a problem w/the file itself?
I traced with pen tool a line and now I need it to make it same as this:
I tried to double click to stroke lines to bring stroke options and there are few strokes in library but not exact of this. I tried to play with size and spacing but I cannot reach the same result, how to do it?
I don't seem to be able to change my stroke in brush or pencil. It keeps resetting back to basic stroke 1pt/basic/uniform. The only way I seem to be able to go around this problem is to first paint something and then select the stroke and choose the stroke width, etc., but that's too time consuming and very difficult to work. I am using CS 5. "New Art Has Basic Appearance" is unchecked.
I'm trying to change the colors of a pathItem corresponding to the string value of several text fields in my document. I've been successful in changing the fill and stroke color of the pathItem, but I can not find any reference in the Illustrator Javascript Guide for accessing additional strokes and/or fills that have been applied to the object in the Appearance panel.
On digital tutors i learned that the blob brush size can be changed interactively. But since i use a mac in combination with a cintiq and a swiss german keyboard i cannot use the bracket keys.
They also don't work when i assign the us keyboard settings. How can the brush size of the blob brush be changed interactively?
Is there a way or an option I am missing to convert my regular paths to a path stroked with a brush profile, while maintining the proper stroke width?
For instance, I have a regular line with a stroke of 5 and then add a brush profile, which then converts the original stroke to whatever the brush was made at.
When I open the .AI I noticed that the reference to the visuals is under a %DocumentFiles section: %%DocumentFiles:/Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/visuals/retouc hed.psd %%+/Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/visuals/flattened.jpg
I need to replace "/Volumes/Storage/Projects" with "/Volumes/Projects". (There are some more complex replacements I need, but let's start here.)
I accidentally changed its position relative to the object being edited.
P.S I found the hierarchy panel to the right. does it have something to do with this? (I thought i remembered it from a tutorial i used a while ago...)
I fixed it with the hierarchy panel. I clicked pivot in the panel, then affect object only, then center to pivot. this makes the the object stick to the gizmo, bringing it back to default setting (at least im 99% sure that was default.) I thought i had been on the right track.
I'm trying to create a script in CS5 mac os10.6.8 that will change the fill color of selected pathItems. I need a simple script that will change a selected pathItem to cmyk values 2,3,15,0. I will then select this script and implement the action in a batch of 600 files.
I wish this process could be recorded as an action but when I record the action "add new swatch" I have to manually input the cmyk values, which will take forever for a batch of over 600 files.
I am using illustrator for doing some calligraphy and I am not really experienced with this program. I am using a mouse pen with pressure to draw/write calligraphies. My question is, can I change the pressure amount after I drew lines using brush tool. Let’s say I drew a line, it is good but still not satisfactory. I just want to do a little change in pressure amount in some segments –not all the line- on line. Does illustrator give me this option?
I am just wondering how to change the orientation of a sketch in VB.net. I have no worries in VBA but the command to set the orientation and origin don't seem to work in VB.net.
