Is there a way or an option I am missing to convert my regular paths to a path stroked with a brush profile,while maintining the proper stroke width?
For instance, I have a regular line with a stroke of 5 and then add a brush profile, which then converts the original stroke to whatever the brush was made at.
I got this error many different times and the problem still continues.
When I change the stroke weight from the Strokes menu arrows or by scroll, this action changes my path's shape and distorts it. You can see the problem below:
I got similar errors when scaling a couple of times. But this one looks just impossible to me.

Here's what I do in the video:
First, on a path that allows the change:
Select an elipse.Increase the stroke weight of the elipse.Control-Z to undo.Decrease the stroke weight of the elipse.The above demonstrates I know how to adjust the path weight (at least I think it does).Next, on the path that doesn't allow the stroke width to be reduced: Select path. Increase stroke weight to demonstrate it increases.Control-Z to undo.Decrease the stroke weight to .25 to demonstrate it does not reduce in size.
What do I need to do to decrease the weight of the path I am trying to adjust?
A path automatically goes basic(1) weight when any brush is applied to it. Is there any way to avoid this?

But when I click and drag the brush over onto the path, the brush stroke is applied to the entire path..... which I dont want to happen. I only want it applied to the section of the path.

In Inkscape, you could change the thickness of a calligraphy stroke based on the speed that the cursor moved. It was called "thinning".
View 2 Replies View RelatedI routinely use stroke profiles to modify stokes that also have a brush appearance. When I change the brush, the profile is lost. The only way I found, to keep the stroke profile, is to save the profile before changing the brush appearance, then reasign the profile. I wonder if it is a programming oversight that deletes the profile from the stroke in this case.
I also would like to see a better method of saving/updating/editing stroke profiles. There is currently no way to overwrite a profile. Again, an oversite, in my opinion.
Stroke profiles should be available in a panel, similar to brushes. They are powerful effects, but poorly implemented.
I'm still working primarily, in CS5, but I think these features have remained the same in CS6.
How can I have the second panel in Illustrator for Mac? At the moment, I'm stuck with a single-option panel, only allowing to change 'weight'...
View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't know what I'm doing wrong, but every now and then, my stroke weight rounds up. When I try to make the stroke 1.5 pts, Illustrator automatically rounds up the stroke weight to an even "2". This is very annoying when I need the line to be 1.5.
It doesn't always happen, but it drives me crazy when it does. what I've turned on, and how I can turn it off?
Is there a keyboard shortcut to change stroke weight? Increase and decrease.
If there isn't , then any way to write a script or something else, to make this hotkey.

I am clicking on a line and altering it's stroke weight to numbers as big as 70pt, but the there is no visible change to the line! If I click off the line and back on it, it still says that it is 70pt, but this is not apparent! Have i clicked on something that prevents me from altering the line weights?

What I mean is the brush should stay perpendicular to the path. So that on angles...the brush takes that angle. Does that make sense? Let me explain exactly what I have done. I created a brush that is just a rectangle that is about 1px wide and about 7px tall. I have created a path around some text. I want the brush to follow the path around so that it looks like stitching. But what is happening is on the vertical sides..the brush is staying vertical.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using a Mac running 10.8.4 and Illustrator CS6, on new documents I can not get the stroke or line weight below .0139”. I set the weight manually but it returns to .0139”, the weight will increase just will not go below .0139”. Any document that was drawn in CS2 retains its weight settings and I can even draw new items and have any line weight down to .001”. I can not go that low in a new document. All setting appear to be the same.

For example, I trace a square with no stroke, and measures 100mm. When I add a 1pt stroke on it, I would still like the transform box to display 100mm, and not 100,353 mm.
I'm working on Illustrator CC (64 bit), Windows 7.
For some reason I cannot create a line weight/stroke under 1pt in Illus CS6. I will select 0.5pt but the selection keeps defaulting back to 1pt. I deleted my preferences, but didn't work. How can I fix?

In cs5 i could stroke the path based on the brush size/shape when i choose "brush" and simulate pressure to get those nice faded out lines.
In cs6 I do the same thing but the stroke size never changes to the brush size even when i make sure "brush" is selected.
Second question... I want to add some lights with Knoll Light Factory; is there a way to preview the lens flare on top of all the current layers to see what it will look like? Sometimes i'm trying to position it on top of a very specific area. I know I can change the background layer to the specific place, but getting a full preview would be great.

I'd like to make it easier for our 100,000 designers to use AI to make custom products using a laser cutter.
Current Practice
Designers open our AI laser cutting design templates, add their designs using the AI settings our online pricing system can read, then upload their designs to our website for instant pricing, making and shipping.
The Problem
Designers have to manually setup AI with settings that can be read by our online pricing system. If they get these settings wrong, our system can not read their designs. So they are rejected and can not be priced or made. This happens more often that you'd imagine.
The Solution
Designers do not like design rejections. So I'd like to eradicate them by providing our designers with a version of AI that provides the following settings only:
* Set document to RGB
* Stroke weight = 0.01mm
* Stroke colors = RGB 0, 0, 255 and 255, 0, 0
* Fill color = RGB 0, 0, 0
This will mean designers have a very limited number of AI choices, with nothing to distract them or to get wrong. Which will result in less (or zero?) design rejections. And products made faster than before. Rejoice!

How do we program our AI laser cutting design templates so that when they are opened in AI, they auto set AI settings as defined above?
Is there a way in Photoshop to gradually decrease the width of the brush stroke along a path? Like a classic lightning bolt...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been having this problem changing the Paint Tool in the Stroke Path Dialog .
I'm using GIMP v2.6.11
First I stroke a path using the Paintbrush as the paint tool. Then I change the Paintbrush to Airbrush and try to stroke the same path and it seems like it's still using the Paintbrush (or even worse, it does nothing at all). Sometimes I reopen the stroke path dialog and it seems to have reverted back to the last paint tool I used (Paintbrush) and my Airbrush selection seems to have been completely ignored.
Currently if I want to stroke with different paint tools I have to do the following. Stroke with Paintbrush, stoke with Pencil and then undo (for some reason changing from the pencil tool doesn't have the problem), then stroke with Airbrush. I always have to do this intermediary step of stroking and undoing with a pencil to get the new paint tool to register.
I'm not sure what I did to make this happen or how to change it back, but for some reason when I change the size of an object/line it changes the stroke weight as well. (For example, if I drew an ellipse with stroke weight 2 pt, and then increased the size the stroke weight would be 2.856 pt or some such number instead of 2 pt.) How to change this back?

Though a dragged path (by an endpoint) snaps to a point on another path, when I lift my finger, the dragged point and path jump a small distance away.
Aligning two separate paths to their common (e.g. top left) endpoints also leaves the two endpoints slightly displaced from each other.
I mostly use photoshop for lineart on some pictures I do but the biggest problem is that the lines are not really smooth. I want to Use Illustrator just to ink the pen tool paths and then return it to photoshop to color. This is a recently finished picture I did using the Pen tool traced on top of a sketch I scanned. I want to know if there is any way I could do something similar to "Stroke path" in Illustrator so that I could get this picture done with crisper lines and if not.

View 6 Replies View RelatedOkay so I've browsed these forums and everybody keeps saying to turn off Align new Objects to pixel grid well I've done that and it still keeps resetting. I've been using a Print document since I am trying to draw illustrations for a children's book but somehow when I choose anything below 1 pt it keeps going back to 1 pt no matter what.
Opened up transform panel too but it's not checked and grayed out so I can not turn on / off again. I am using Adobe Illustrator CS5.
I am using Illustrator CS5 to build a logo that uses brush strokes. The strokes are translucent but I want them to be opaque. The setting for the stroke is 100% opaque. I can't find a way to change this. It seems like a glitch. I've used brush strokes many times before, but have never had this problem.
