How can I explode a rectangle to 4 individual lines? i need illustrator equivalent to autocad explode function. I searched a lot on net, couldn't find it. I tried expand command too.

For some reason the line type scale is way out to lunch on one of the lines in a block i use, so i was wondering if you can change that LTS without exploding the block, or if i can change the LTS for the layer that specific line is on without exploding the block
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have several featurelines that I wish to explode to be 3D Polylines (bad, I know, but it's a test for a way to get data across from our design group to our survey group).
Last week, in this drawing, I exploded a large selection of featurelines and they all became 3D polylines, preserving their elevation data. This week, I drew an additional set of featurelines in the same drawing. When I explode them once, they lose all elevation data, becoming lpolylines at z=0. Additionally, the Prospector shows me several errors: "breaklines not added to surface" or something similar. Which is an odd result for the explode command.
Why did this work once but not a second time?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am often using text within AutoCAD 2012. Here is what I do, look at the attachments:
1. Create the text using the mtext tool
2. Explode the text using the txtexp tool
But, when I explode the text, lines appear inside the text like in the image. I then have to explode the whole thing and delete these lines manually. Any tool or add-on to get around this annoyance every time I insert text.
I'm doing a project where i am trying to make a house (like a simple one you would see in a real estate ad), but with the lines being squiggly. I applied the zigzag filter to the entire thing, and it looks alright, but the whole house is distorted, not the individual lines. I want to know if I can just make the individual lines have that zigzag look, like some one scribbled it lightly. Is there a way to do that, and if so, how?

The direct selection and lasso tools keep selecting entire paths. I thought these tools were for selecting individual or small groups of anchor points so that they can be edited. I am using Illustrator CS6, and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if my program is being buggy.

View 12 Replies View RelatedIs there a feature available in Adobe Illustrator CS6 or above that allows for artboards to have a number placed on them? This would work with assembling the order of artboards within the Workspace.
These numbers that appear on individual artboards would
1) correspond to the artboards numbers in the artboard pallette and
2) would also not be printable or included on any other export type (web for example), unless the user specified they'd like that option (perhaps when exporting, this option could be displayed).
I just installed Illustrator CS6 trial. I have been on Illustrator 9 for years. I am used to clicking on the type tool, then clicking on the artboard and typing a single word. I am not using actual text boxes. When I do that in CS6 I cannot get a bounding box to show me how to resize it using the transform tool (arrow tool). I've gone to view>show bounding box, but it does not do anything.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm used to working with the pen tool in Adobe Photoshop, so Illustrator is just different enough to be problematic, since my automatic keyboard shortcut uses don't quite work. My biggest problem when drawing paths in Illustrator is that I can't figure out how to move individual anchor points without moving the entire connected path. I'm not using the direct selection right, or I don't have the rest of the path deselected properly, or something? How to move only individual anchor points in a path. (I am very tired of trying to move anchor points and ending up scooting the entire path along with it.)

I thought I once knew how to change the leading of an individual letter in a text, but now I can't remember how to. Do you know the short cut? An example would be using the word Tooth and changing the T to have the top aligned with the cross of the other t in the word!

I am duplicating this grouped object, and trying to design a press wall with the logo repeated multiple times. I duplicate the logo multiple times and place them on the page, but when I try to use the "distribute objects" tool, it breaks up my logo(s) into their consituent objects and distibutes the pieces on the page, which is very annoying... how do I keep my logo together AND be able to distribute it evenly across my banner?

Now, say I have a logo with several layers, or a bunch of shapes together, and I want to apply ONE texture across the entire thing (as a knockout). What is the best way to go about this.

I'm trying to practice on myself using the gradient mesh tool… I understand the point made about making many smaller meshes e.g. eyes, nose, mouth…
I open an image of myself >open the layers panel and lock my image…Create a new blank layer…Then I select my pen tool…Start making an outline of my face, approximately 1-3 pixels all the way around the outside…Then I go up to the menu bar and click on, "Object >Create Gradient Mesh" - 15 rows by 15 columns…then I use the selection tool and select the whole mesh that was just created…then set the opacity to 0%…Using the direct selection tool to select & move anchor points and handles as needed to match light lines…then I use the mesh tool to select an anchor point to start coloring this is where I start to run into trouble…
after selecting my first anchor point to color, I select the color picker tool from the toolbox for some reason I'm not able to select that color beneath the mesh (the color underneath the selected anchor point)…
I played around & so far the only way I'm able to select the color beneath is by moving the whole mesh to the side, but… I end up losing the reference point of where that anchor was…
Is there a way I can cycle through the characters in a textRange and adjust the individual tracking of each character?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm presently making assets for an ipad app in illustrator i create all the layers as indidvidual assets then export as a layered psd...i've found that when i open this in photoshop some of the assets are 1 pixel out....which is an issue(for our developer) when you are making ipad retina assets and convert these to non-retina which are half the size.
Any way of mananging this so I deliver even number pixel(on the x axis) assets so they are easily halfed - which in turn doesn't create more work for our developer.
i'm using cs6 suite. my preference is to create the assets in illustrator rather than photoshop
I'm trying to hide all items in a document (and store each items original visibility state), iterate user pre-selected items and perform an export for each item in selection (I've got this part covered), and finally restore the visibility state of each item again (here's where the storing of original visibility state is needed).
I've found that I can iterate all items in the document using app.activeDocument.pageItems[i] where i is the page item identified by the i-th index in the pageItems collection.
What is not clear, however, is how to get the visibility state of this page item. Indeed, there is a property visbilityVariable associated with page items, but when I try to "inspect" its content using an alert message, I get "undefined".
Are there better ways to iterate all items in a document? Ideally, I'd like to access all items regardless of wether they're path items, group items, text frame items or what have you. I need this collection to read/write the visibility state of each individual item.
I've got a large set of icons as symbols. Is there any easy way to just export all the symbols either as individual files or as a sprite sheet?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI need to transform a lot of dashed (single) lines into separate lines... Who can tell me how to do this in a few clicks. I don't need an outline of the dashed line. So the black dashes I need, the white in between the dashes I want to loose.

I have 4 layers (background, layer1, layer2, layer3-text). They fill all 300 x 600 pixels that comprise the .psd/future image. What I want to do is use a rounded rectangle to encompass all of the other layers, so that the surrounding pixels (around the rounded rectangle) are transparent.
I want all of my current layers to be the content of a rounded rectangle.
I have a rectanlgle the same size as the artboard. I added a 2px border around the rectangle. It is centered vertically and horizontally to the artboard. When I save it as a PNG(save for web) the border gets cut off.
How can I prevent this? I am using illustrator CC(64)
My rectangle tool is MISSING from illustrator cc. How can I get it back?
