How do I custom change the Canvas Colour? I don't want to use Transparency Grid hacks, I want to custom change the canvas colour so that it suits my other works.
btw, who forgot to implement the use of Illustrators colours into the transparency grid feature, leaving it using the Mac OS X UI colour pickers is a bizarre choice.
Any quick tips to convert an expanded appearance rounded rectacngle back to a sharp cornered rectangle?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen using the perspective grid tool and type, I have a word on the right side of the grid in perspective, and I want to make a shadow of this word flat on the bottom grid. (Like how a tall building casts a shadow flat on the ground)
I tried using the shear tool to do it but it is a bit tricky getting it just right. There must be an easier way to do it within the perspective tool grid.
When I type the word and align it to the bottom grid, how do I rotate it whilst still being aligned in perspective on the bottom grid?If I try and rotate the word using the selection tool it rotates off axis so it is no longer laying flat on the bottom grid.
Words placed on the bottom grid always read from the left vanishing point - I want the word to read from the right vanishing point so it aligns with my word on the right grid wall.
My circles & Squares are not normal, They look like the "shear" tool symbol..How do I reset this?

I have a 100cm x 100cm document at the moment, with 1 cm making a 'stitch'. I want a grid that is 100cm x 100cm, made up of 1cm x 1cm squares for simplicity. Then be able to print the design out on the grid.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've just started to use color labels and I noticed that in grid view some show up as a pale color and some show up as a darker color even when set to the same label color. I can't find a rhyme or reason to this. Why this happens?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been doing some work recently with stencils, which involves me using illustrator to do a cutout-type effect using the "live trace" function. It works very well for making stencils that I can enlarge many times. The problem I have encountered is with working with more than 3 layers- it is very hard to distinguish colors from each other, especially in more complex stencils, after they have been cut out.
I have been searching for an option (or seperate program) that would allow me to automatically separate the colors (there are never more than 15) onto individual layers, one color per layer.
I was wondering if there was an easy way to view individual color channels (Red, Green, Blue) in the viewer, and if so what the shortcuts are. I know you can do this simply in flame but can't seem to find a way to do it in Smoke.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to show a particular part in a drawing view so that it's clearly visible. I mean, I can see it fine, but I would like it to pop out a bit more than it does and not blend in with other lines around it. Is there anyway to do this? I know you can make an entire view colored, but I just want one part colored within that view.
If not, then how do I remove the lighting from a particular view so that the parts will show as solid colors in a drawing view? They currently show with like a white reflection or sheen and a sort of gradient coloring to them.

How do I fill a rectangle with a color?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHere I have several concentric squares in an uninterrupted stack.I moved the topmost (small orange) one vertically.I then went to the Alignment panel, selected all the squares and clicked on the one I moved. Then I clicked on Vertical Distribute Center.
The right hand picture shows what happened. One of the squares (that big orange one) near the bottom of the stack shot up so that its centre was above the centre of the topmost one in the stack. The centres are evenly distributed but why is the stacking order not controlling the order in which the squares are arranged?
Fortunately the positioning of that big orange square was easy to correct, but something tells me this is not the way things are supposed to happen.Seemingly this does not always happen. I have tried the method on several stacks. Some were o.k., others showed similar behaviour to the above.
PS CS6
I have a document that is 8X12 with a white background.
1. create new layer
2. click on color from swatches.
3. draw a rectangle holding shift. Now I have rectangle that has a color. (Change to Pixels in options)
Can I copy that new rectangle with a different color?? Can I copy and replace that color??
Sounds simple. I can't find a method to do it!
The reason to do it this way is the rectangle will show in layer as a colored square on transparent background.
I have a solid color rectangle on a layer.
I would like to create several similar rectangles on different layers with different opacity levels (i.e. 90%/75%/50% etc), that will match the solid color rectangle exactly, when they are against a white background.
I used Hue/Saturation on the transparent rectangles to approximate the solid color, but the eyedropper shows that I am a of couple values off. Is there a way to accurately match these colors exactly?
I have placed a rectangle in my template and want to know if there's anyway to fill this rectangle with a color?
I can use another object if that's better - mainly wanting to be able to fill a pre-determined space with a back color.
The direct selection and lasso tools keep selecting entire paths. I thought these tools were for selecting individual or small groups of anchor points so that they can be edited. I am using Illustrator CS6, and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if my program is being buggy.

View 12 Replies View RelatedIs there a feature available in Adobe Illustrator CS6 or above that allows for artboards to have a number placed on them? This would work with assembling the order of artboards within the Workspace.
These numbers that appear on individual artboards would
1) correspond to the artboards numbers in the artboard pallette and
2) would also not be printable or included on any other export type (web for example), unless the user specified they'd like that option (perhaps when exporting, this option could be displayed).
I am using PS CS6 extended on Win 7.
Two Questions
1) How do I color the top and sides of a 3D object, made by extrusion a rectangle, with a gradient color? In what I am doing.... I don't really care about the "texture" of the 3D rectangle, I want the top and sides to match the gradient I made on the face of the rectangle. I see the in properties of the extruded material the diffuse, specular, illumination and ambient settings.....but none of these lets you pick a gradient color.
I "guess" I can make separate layers to build a 3D rectangle box, and warp/distort the visible top and side after coloring it with a gradient..........but it seems like this is the idea, or part of the idea of a 3D object.
2) Why is there no true 3D rectangle objects, only cubes (spheres, pyramids, etc.)? Can you scale the cube into a 3D rectangle, if so how?
I am brand new to web design and I have Web Designer 6.0. I've looked at video instructions and can not figure this out. I am trying to group a simple rectangle filled with color to some text that will make the rectangle in the background, the text in front, and be one object. It says choose both objects and then group them, but I can choose the rectangle or the text, but not both. I know this is a simple thing to do, but I'm brand new and can't figure it out.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just installed Illustrator CS6 trial. I have been on Illustrator 9 for years. I am used to clicking on the type tool, then clicking on the artboard and typing a single word. I am not using actual text boxes. When I do that in CS6 I cannot get a bounding box to show me how to resize it using the transform tool (arrow tool). I've gone to view>show bounding box, but it does not do anything.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm used to working with the pen tool in Adobe Photoshop, so Illustrator is just different enough to be problematic, since my automatic keyboard shortcut uses don't quite work. My biggest problem when drawing paths in Illustrator is that I can't figure out how to move individual anchor points without moving the entire connected path. I'm not using the direct selection right, or I don't have the rest of the path deselected properly, or something? How to move only individual anchor points in a path. (I am very tired of trying to move anchor points and ending up scooting the entire path along with it.)

I thought I once knew how to change the leading of an individual letter in a text, but now I can't remember how to. Do you know the short cut? An example would be using the word Tooth and changing the T to have the top aligned with the cross of the other t in the word!
