I could edit an existing PDF made by another company, just change a few lines of text. The original file was around 3 mb. I add in a website, extension to the phone number, switch out the fax (That's it!) and save as a new version. It's now almost 30 mb. Why?? My work email won't let me send something of that size.. I tried saving as smallest file size w/ preserving editing and it came out to be 15+ mb.

The problem is that the .ai and .eps files are having really huge size (67MB on an average). I have used about 6 images (jpeg at 1024x768, less than 1MB each) made them as pattern in the swatches panel and applied on various shapes. The .ai file size is 109MB :O :O :O . Another ridiculous thing is that an art that contains only 3 lines of text plus some circles and squares (3 circles, 2 squares) filled with solid color is around 68MB.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am making very detailed artwork in Illustrator that ultimately has to be uploaded to a website as a pdf file. This artwork takes ages to save and when converted to pdf format, even at the lowest quality pdf, the files are huge. What is the best way to get the file size down? Turning the files into low res jpegs somewhat defeats the purpose of making detailed vector art in the first place.
The artwork has a lot of repeated elements that could be turned into symbols but I'm told this doesn't fix the problem of huge pdfs.
I have been using illustrator since 1988 and I am not sure why all of a sudden this is happening. I must have clicked the wrong box or something. I save a jpg from my psd file at 5 x 6 inches at 300 dpi. I place it into my letter sized page in illustrator CS5 and it comes out huge. I look at the bar at the top at it says its 72ppi.
Just earlier today, it place fine and viewed like a 300 dpi file. What did I mess up to make this happen all of a sudden.Why is it placing at 72 ppi?
I checked InDesign and it places fine.
I place the psd file and it places fine.
But the jpg places huge at screen resolution.
I understand the difference between print vs screen resolution.
I am working with files in which I have to apply a layer that a subsequent program then will use for "HOTSPOTTING" on a web based purchase platform.
The files I am working with is .dwg files and .pdf But the objects I want to hotspot is not recognized as text. Is there a way where I can force illustrator to accept the marked area as text?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a couple of thousand old cliparts in .wmf format that I have to convert to .ai. What I need to do is simply open the .wmf, store it as .ai in exactly the same location.
Actions didn´t work because the files are in mutliple folders and subfolders. "Actions" keeped saving all the ai-files in the same folder. Which is kinda weird since this doesn´t happen when using the same action in PS.
Sure, there are some quality issues with converting wmf to ai - but for what we´re plannning the quality is sufficient.
CarlosCantos script at [URL]..... looked like the thing to do. Loaded it in apple script, patched the lines to open .wmf and saved it in the Illustrator script folder, but all I got was a bunch of error messages.
I was editing a file in illustrator that a past designer set up and he set it up so that there are multiple lines in a column of text that are linked some how so that the first line of text can be edited and the rest will change with it.

I have a layout for an ebook with some important black and white bitmap illustrations in tiff., 300 dpi. These has appeared ok on print, but not on screen, reading the same pdf-file. This is partly because there are texts in fontsize 5-6 pt. People tell me I have to convert the drawings, or at least the text, to vector graphics. Question is now - since at the moment I have CS6 avaiable - can I open these tiff.s in Illustrator, change the text to vector and then save in a format, that can be inserted in the Word2010 layout? (You might wonder why I use Word, but it was a question of economy, when the project was started up).
