I seem to have hit some key on Illustrator CC which turns the canvas background from white to a grey graph grid. I've now done it on two files and it's driving me crazy trying to figure how to turn it back to white.
View 2 RepliesI'm having problems creating pattern swatches in cs6, because I can't seem to solve the problem of the background overlapping and hiding foreground shapes. I can make patterns without a background and I think I've worked out how to prevent the problem with a simple grid, but when I make a brick tile pattern, whichever overlap options I choose, at least one of the foreground shapes gets partly obscured by the overlapping background. I'm used to making seamless patterns in previous versions of Illustrator, by using guides and grids, then defining the pattern using a background rectangle but this option doesn't seem to be available in CS6, so if I can't solve the problem, it's back to CS5.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to figure this out, and i'm at the end of my limited HTML and CSS knowledge. I created an animated background in Edge to use on my site, but the elements that should be hidden beyond the 1500px stage just sit there and are visible if you resize your window. i attempted to customize it with a #stage id and overflow:hidden but it did nothing.
my website is [URL] and if you resize your window past 1500px, or scroll over to the right, you can see one of the images just waiting until it is activated. i'd like to hide everything past the 1500px mark but i can't figure out how to do that.
the Edge Runtime script is in the head, including the <style> for .edgeLoad and .updateBack elelments. the <div id="stage" class="updateBack"> is the first line of code in the html, then the tag is closed and i have my main container.
When using the perspective grid tool and type, I have a word on the right side of the grid in perspective, and I want to make a shadow of this word flat on the bottom grid. (Like how a tall building casts a shadow flat on the ground)
I tried using the shear tool to do it but it is a bit tricky getting it just right. There must be an easier way to do it within the perspective tool grid.
When I type the word and align it to the bottom grid, how do I rotate it whilst still being aligned in perspective on the bottom grid?If I try and rotate the word using the selection tool it rotates off axis so it is no longer laying flat on the bottom grid.
Words placed on the bottom grid always read from the left vanishing point - I want the word to read from the right vanishing point so it aligns with my word on the right grid wall.
want to translate my vector illustrations to charts for cross stitch kits. Using the grid tool, but the lines aren't equally spaced? I have a 100cm x 100cm document at the moment, with 1 cm making a 'stitch'. I want a grid that is 100cm x 100cm, made up of 1cm x 1cm squares for simplicity. Then be able to print the design out on the grid.

View 10 Replies View RelatedSince the Retina update for CS6, my Action hotkeys (F6, F7 etc) now cause palettes to hide/appear, which didn't happen prior to the update. It seems the palettes have been given F keys when they didn't before, but I haven't got a previous version to test on.
For example I have F7 set to trigger an action to make a stroke 0.5pt, and F6 to expand that line. Now, when I hit those keys, the action completes, but the Layers palette and Colors palettes each toggle on and off with each press of the key. As you can imagine this is hugely frustrating given I'm constantly turning layers on and off to check artwork, as well as selecting colours.
I want to write a script that hides the background partitions in every pass but the pass that is currently selected. Is this possible? If so, how would I accomplish this? I have been using VBScript for everything else, but an example of how to do this in any language would be useful.

I'm working on a sticker with a Big Ben style clock on it. I've created it using the 2-point perspective ability in Illustrator. Unfortunately, I've decided that I want it to feel "taller" than when I started, so I need to shift the perspective. However, when I use the Perspective Grid Tool and adjust the ground or horizon line, it only adjusts the grid, not the artwork. Is there a way to have the artwork adjust with the grid so that I can move the artwork around in 3D space to find the right perspective?

In Edit > Preferences > Guides & Grid I have the Show Pixel Grid option checked but when zoomed in over 600% the pixel grid does not appear. Am I missing something?
Align To Pixel Grid a bit more thoroughly. I understand how to use it - to turn it on & off, but I'm a bit confused about the "why & when" of using it. F.I. I'm creating a picturebook with text. So when I export / or save for web, I'll be turning the vector art and text as an image. My understanding is that using ATPG will eliminate the jagginess of the text that would occur, when it becomes an image, if I did not use ATPG.And conversely, if I don't use ATPG, the text will be jaggy when exported to jpg or png. Is this correct?

Wouldn’t it be cool to take your Wacom-Pen and simply color the boxes the way you’d love to?
You could simply set up a solid brush matching your needs …no matter if it’s 1x1 px thin. …or 1000x1000 px heavy.
You could create sharp edged drawings in beautiful colors.
But instead of that solid look, I get shades or halftones even if my brush is set to 1px.

Having trouble making a perfect alignment, 90 degrees, 180 degrees etc. When object is duplicated and rotated it appears to be out of alignment with original. Is there a finer control for snapping to grid/object without having to use increments or perhaps adjusting them?

View 8 Replies View RelatedIs there away to turn off "Snap to Grid"? You find it under View - Perspective Grid - Snap to Grid. I can turn it off by clicking on it to turn off but it won't stay turned off. I tired to go into my preferences to see if you can keep it off in your setting but I do not see it. A lot of discussion boards talk about in the Transform window "Align new objects to pixel grid" and that is turned off.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a user and when he's in sketch mode he trys to draw a line but it keeps on snapping to a grid. Both snap and grid setting are switched off. I can't find any settings he has different from my own set-up so I'm finding it hard to fox this problem. FYI, this user is a bit of a problem and tends to change settings without even realising he's doing it.
He's using Inventor 2012.
Revit has a propensity to locate a lay-in ceiling grid with a grid intersection in the center of the room. You can use the alignment tool to align the grid with a wall. But I see no way to center a tile in a room. This is often a necessity in a narrow room, to keep the lights centered. Also, installers, when not given specific instructions to the contrary, will often locate the ceiling grid to minimize narrow tiles at the wall. We need more control over the position of the grid.

While I do understand you have done this to try to create pixel-perfect graphics, there has to be another way.. Back in CS4, I had a work-around for the pixel-perfect problem. It involved applying a graphic style with a transform properties of -0.5, -0.5 to individual paths or groups. The reason this worked was that it did not affect the actual co-ordinates of the path and allowed me to snap my paths to whatever I wanted..
How to use the perspective tool and i understand that i can draw a grid onto this but the grid always seems to be out of whack when i do and the line spacing isn't at all perfect. What i want to be able to do is draw a grid with equal spacing and have the ability to warp this so it looks all bent up going off into the distance.
I can see this is going to be something that i have to draw in manually but i'm kind of hoping that i can have the bulk of the job done for me.
However, if i do have to draw it manually, how would i go about spacing the lines equally along a wafty curved line???
Cannot make snap to grid to work, tried the following and while trying I came across another issue. If align to pixel grid is unchecked when opening new documents then snap to grid does not work, but the smart guides don't work either. They appear only when the align to pixel grid is rechecked in the transform panel. Now no snap no smart guides either.
Is there another option other than in preferences for the snap to grid to work or the smart guides to work?
Also, I set my grid to lines every 10mm subdivisions every 1mm and my keyboard increments to 10mm so why then does my 10x10mm no stroke no fill square move 11mm with each keyboard stroke? Set this up so that the object would then snap to the grid, but it does not, whether or not the align to pixel grid is checked or unchecked either way it does not work.
Latest lion latest illustartor update, in the wishful thinking that it would fix it, but still have the same problem.
deleted the cache too still nothing.
p.s I do not know what changed, but it used to work before
