Illustrator :: CS6 - Pattern Background Overlap And Hiding Foreground Shapes

Aug 15, 2012

I'm having problems creating pattern swatches in cs6, because I can't seem to solve the problem of  the background overlapping and hiding foreground shapes. I can make patterns without a background and I think I've worked out how to prevent the problem with a simple grid, but when I make a brick tile pattern, whichever overlap options I choose, at least one of the foreground shapes gets partly obscured by the overlapping background. I'm used to making seamless patterns in previous versions of Illustrator, by using guides and grids, then defining the pattern using a background rectangle but this option doesn't seem to be available in CS6, so if I can't solve the problem, it's back to CS5.

Illustrator :: How To Fill Area Where Shapes Overlap

Nov 2, 2012

I am recently getting back into using Illustrator.

I am trying to draw 2 shapes, let's say 2 circles, fill them w/colors, then have them overlap each other.

The part where they overlap creates a DIFFERENT shape. I want to fill that 3rd shapew/a different color. How do I select that 3rd shape area and fill out?

Illustrator :: Impossible To Overlap Two Shapes After Pathfinder Operation

Mar 13, 2013

I have been using Illustrator for a couple of years now and from time to time I encounter very strange behavior when manipulating a vector shape.I have a current example here where I simply want to create a combined shape using the pathfinder tool:

As you can see, the generated shape (red) does not cover the original shape (green). When I use the path selection tool, I am able to reposition the first anchor but when I do the same for the lower anchor as well the entire shape is replaces a few pixel to the left. Even using the "align" tool afterwards is not useful. It seems impossible to make the red shape cover the green one.

I have some type converted to outlines, and it is in front/on top of a places raster pattern. when I select the type shapes and pattern and make a clipping mask, the pattern disappears and the letter shapes are filled with nothing!

Matters not whether the letter shapes are grouped or not...is there a way to have all of the letter shapes act as clipping mask together?

Illustrator :: Background Color And Shapes

Aug 9, 2013

I'm new to illustrator and having trouble with changing the background color of the working board. I'd like to see how my very simple shapes look under dark conditions (black background).

So, while I was able to change the color of the background, my shapes, along with their fill colors, just disappeared. They're there, "behind" the background and I can't / don't know how to bring them to the front.

How can I accomplish such a simple task ?

Illustrator :: Dark Gray Background To And Image / Pattern?

Dec 19, 2012

I'm using Illustrator cs6. I would like to change the dark gray background that surrounds the art board to a step and repeat patterns of our logo. We use screenshots as a means of generating low-res proofs. Having our step and repeat logo pattern as the background would allow us to easily include it in our low-res screenshot proofs. Can I replace the "system file" for the dark gray to our step and repeat pattern?

Illustrator :: How To Get Transparent Pattern To Show On Opaque Background

Jan 12, 2014

I need to create pattern using a simple shape and a background colour – the catch is they both need to be exactly the same colour.

For example ideally I would like to lower the transparency of the shape to around 30% so it’s lighter. Then put down a completely opaque background colour and move the shape onto the background. Logically I understand that making the shape transparent means it won’t show up on a background that is opaque... The only other option I've found is adjusting the colour saturation however this seems to have the same affect as it being transparent. There must be an adjustment option that I don't know about?

Flipping the idea vice versa seems to be no problem, having a 30% transparency on the background colour and an opaque shape works well however this isn’t what I’m trying to do.

I know it’s possible as I’m trying to replicate a pattern background we already use. Unfortunately I only have the screen shot jpeg of the background that has been OK to use on small designs in the past. Now I’m attempting to re-create it properly as a vector so I can blow it up to 2metres x 1metre for an exhibition stand without worrying about  pixelating.

Photoshop :: Foreground/background Mix-up

Apr 30, 2004

Somehow or other, my PS (v7.0, Win) has got itself confused when it comes to sampling a colour. Using the eye-dropper, one click samples the colour to the background swatch while Alt+ click samples the colour to the foreground - the reverse of the norm. This is not such a problem in itself, but when I'm using the sampler as part of a painting tool it becomes a hassle. I hit Alt and sample, but it goes to the background swatch: I have to keep hitting X to swap the colours over so I can paint in the new colour.

Photoshop :: Foreground To Background Gradient

Jul 18, 2008

Here is my problem. My foreground to background gradient too is broken it seems. It starts with black, then fades into a gold or bronze color and then to white... I'm attaching a screenshot so you can see what I mean.
I'd like to reset whatever I did so that it's the normal gradient, not that gold color in there

I tried even uninstalling photoshop, deleting the settings file, resetting everything... after I re-install photoshop, it's the same thing!

Photoshop :: Foreground/background Colors Back To

Mar 24, 2009

I am running CS4 64 bit and since installing it, when you select a color either from an image or the swatches pallet using the eyedropper the selected colour automatically defaults to the background. It does the same when you are using the brush tool and alt click to select a new color when painting. I have checked Adobe help and it says you should alt/click to put the colour in the background, if I alt click with the eyedropper it places the new colour in the foreground, which is the opposite of what it is meant to be.

GIMP :: Set Foreground / Background Colour Not Working?

i am trying to make a blueprint out of 3 view image to be exported to 3ds max for modelling using Gimp 2.8.2.

I want the backgound colour to be a light shade of blue and the foreground colour (the black outlines of the aircraft) to be a dark shade of blue

I have separated each of the views into separate layers, then tried to add 2 new layers (one for the foreground and one for the background) but cannot seem to get the "set foreground/background" function to work. It just goes a shade of black all of the time irrespective of what colour i choose.

After Effects :: Matching Movement With Foreground And Background?

Aug 29, 2013

I have a hot o someone speaking lines that wasn't shot on a tripod, in front of a green screen. The background is a still picture. I'm trying to get the background to shift whenever the actor does so h matches his environment. The tracker seems to be having trouble because other than the subject, there is nothing in the shot for the trackers to reference. It seems to be tracking him fine but when I apply the tracking data to the background, it flies around wildly when the subject moves his head. I've tried using the older tracker, just using position and scale, and I've tried using the 3D tracker. I feel like this should be fairly simple. Any other information needed I will gladly supply.

Photoshop :: Quickmask Exchanges Foreground And Background Colors - Sometimes?

Jul 8, 2012

I am using Quickmask a lot, and I find a few of the user interface issues in it befuddling.

1) Sometimes when I change to quickmask mode (Q key), the foreground and background colors reverse. Sometimes they don't. Right now they do on one computer but don't on the other. I have never been able to figure out why this is, or what I can do to change it. (FWIW, I find the reversing of colors to be most confusing, and I like it when they don't change).

2) When I go into Quickmask mode and then out, my selected layer  changes. If I have a layer mask selected, then hitting the Q key twice will change the selection from the layer mask to the layer pixels. I can't tell you how many times this has led me to edit the pixels rather than the mask. Is there some way to turn this off, so that the layer mask stays selected? (If not, I'll post this as a feature request).

3) I tend to work in full-screen mode. Is there some easily-recognized cue to whether I am in quickmask mode or not other than the hard-to-see "pressed" state of the quickmask button? I am continually getting confused as sometimes when I am working quickly, it seems like the Q doesn't register, so I hit it twice, and then I spend a few seconds trying to figure out which mode I am in. I like the text in the window frame which gives me instant feedback of my status, but I like the extra pixels of fullscreen mode. Is there another option that gives me full screen but easily-seen feedback on my editing mode?

I'm using Photoshop CS 6 for Macintosh.
