How do I move objects in Illustrator, so they snap to grid? I can draw new objects in such way that they snap to grid, but I cannot snap existing objects when I move them around. Why?

-->I am trying to make my objects snap to the grid when I move them around, not just stay in a random place.
I have a slightly unusual query that I can't seem to find a solution for elsewhere. I have an existing OS plan that is 'off grid', and would like to adjust the vertices at the ends of all the existing lines and polylines so that they all sit on a grid point, ie round all vertices to the nearest whole number. Is there a quick command or script that does this?

I couldn't find anything on the net - is there a way to change the artwork accordingly with the perspective grid?
I have set up a 20x20 pixel grid and I want to easily try out a few mockup layouts. No matter what I try, Illustrator simply does not snap to grid. I have to zoom in really close to align each shape.
Surprisingly it does not snap to guides either, leaving me completely hopeless. I have snap to pixel on and all objects are set to align to pixel grid.
I have my grid set to 10px (with subdivisions set to 1). Snap to Grid is enabled. I had "Align New Objects To Pixel Grid" checked when I created the document.
When I draw an object, it will snap to the 10px grid as I am drawing it. However, when I go to move the object around, it will not snap to the grid at all. In Photoshop and Fireworks, this was a piece of cake, but in Illustrator I've never been able to get this to work, nor find a solution for it. The only way I can kind of get it to work is to set my grid to 1px, but I really don't want to be zooming in that far constantly when moving things around.
For what it's worth, this is happening in Illustrator CC, but I've had this same issue with older versions as well.
I need the logos on this poster to be distributed in alpha order in a grid pattern. Is there an easier way to do this than manually setting them in place? Like a script or something?

I cannot move anything I select. I try to drag it and it makes the "bump" noise.
-I made sure that my preferences are not set to "object selection by path only".
-I've restarted my computer several times
-I tried to open a previous Illustrator file and I have the same problem
-I even uninstalled and reinstalled my entire Abode Suite beacuse I've been having several issues
I'm not sure if this is related but I also can't create a new document unless I use picas and CMYK coloring. It refuses to adjust to anything other than the default settings. Also, I can't increase the stroke of an object unless I type in the number, meaning I can't use the arrows for adjustment.
For some reason I cannot move objects with my arrow keys in Illustrator cs5. I can drag them and transform-move them but the arrow keys don't work.

I can't seem to move objects in my drawing small distances..I'm used to being able to do this..must be some setting I hit, but I can't find which one it might be. I have snap to off, but this isn't behaving like snap to..it's behaving like I'm only "allowed" to move objects certain distances; any smaller and the object simply doesn't move at all..
So, I just installed Illustrator CC, which I now have on a trial license. About an hour ago, illustrator suddenly started refusing to move any objects while I'm in the Selection Tool. I can move the objects only in Free Transform. I use hot keys a lot, so it's really slowing me down. I hit "V" to click on and then move an object, and then it won't move. I get the error sound, but no dialogue box pops up to explain what the error is.
Since I'm getting ready to bite the bullet and start paying a hefty monthly fee for this program when my trial runs out, this is pretty aggravating.
I constantly run into the problem that I have many objects and when I want to drag the selected object to move it around, the object laying in front / or on top of it will be grabbed and moved instead. How do I shortcutwise avoid to pick an unwanted object when I'm about to drag an object ? Is there something like a key to hold, so that Illustrator understands that I want to move the already selected object only ? Since that is a 100 times per day task and I can't always lock and unlock all other layer I'm working on too ... well I could, but that would slow down working 100 times since it's not easy to identify / switch on of each layer in the layer list each time i pick another object ...
View 5 Replies View RelatedUsing CS5.When I try to move any object by selecting and then trying to drag, it won't let me. It allows me to drag while selected maybe half an inch before not moving anymore, and then snaps back to the original position anyway. I CAN move by using transform - move, or selecting and using arrow keys. When I restart my computer everything seems fine, but then it soon gives me this same problem.
Also, when I'm having the object moving issue I also have problems with dropdown menus. For example when printing, I can see the list of printers, but clicking them has no effect. Another example is the Preferences menu box, clicking "Type" or "Units" has no effect.
I was hoping to create a JS script to move objects away from common center based upon their current position. I was thinking to use a single selected path item as the center based on its position x/y and width/height. Using this reference point the script would then move away all other path items from this center point based on a desired amount and with uniform increments given their current location from this center. I was thinking cos and sin would be my friend in this case, however they seem to have become my foe instead. ;-)
Does this sound doable? What am I missing, doing wrong, misinterpreting? Below is a non-working attempt, I can't seem to sort things out, perhaps I was close and missed it or maybe I am super way off and its more complex than I thought. So a friend created a model using zbrush and exported several different *.OBJ files. I imported those to maya and added shaders. They all fit correctly together when imported.
some of those obj files required me to do a mesh->combine. so now it appears that not every item has the same reference point so that when I move or scale the entire item, some of the objects move seperately. I think it is only the ones I had to combine.
I tried freeze transformations, but when doing that, some of the objects lost their scale settings and still didnt move together as one unit.
When using the perspective grid tool and type, I have a word on the right side of the grid in perspective, and I want to make a shadow of this word flat on the bottom grid. (Like how a tall building casts a shadow flat on the ground)
I tried using the shear tool to do it but it is a bit tricky getting it just right. There must be an easier way to do it within the perspective tool grid.
When I type the word and align it to the bottom grid, how do I rotate it whilst still being aligned in perspective on the bottom grid?If I try and rotate the word using the selection tool it rotates off axis so it is no longer laying flat on the bottom grid.
Words placed on the bottom grid always read from the left vanishing point - I want the word to read from the right vanishing point so it aligns with my word on the right grid wall.
want to translate my vector illustrations to charts for cross stitch kits. Using the grid tool, but the lines aren't equally spaced? I have a 100cm x 100cm document at the moment, with 1 cm making a 'stitch'. I want a grid that is 100cm x 100cm, made up of 1cm x 1cm squares for simplicity. Then be able to print the design out on the grid.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have imported a project from revit, I'd like to quickly add furniture to it. On the 1st floor everything is perfect. I just use the top ortho view to position them. The problems begins on other floors. I've tried user grids but they're extremely limited and didn't do the trick.
So, is there a way to 'move' the z0 without having to move the entire scene (move z up instead of moving the scene down)?
There must be a key command to move between the grid panel or the filmstrip and the keywording panel, isn't there? I don't want to use my mouse. I just want to select the photo (if I'm in the grid panel I just move right arrow or left) and then go to the keywording panel (Command K) and then GET BACK TO THE GRID PANEL SO I CAN SELECT THE NEXT PHOTO. I've looked at a lot of articles and lists of key commands for Lightroom 4 and can't seem to find the answer.

For example, the smaller spheres would simply be arranged in a square grid, say 6 x 6, or 36 total spheres. Then I want to take that square pattern of spheres and map it to the surface of a larger sphere.

I've seen several adobe tutorials and youtube videos that show moving photos or folders by drag and drop in the library grid view. I cannot get it to work.
Steps:
1. Mousedown on a photo (not the frame) in the grid
2. Drag the mouse to a folder in the "Folder" pane (left of the grid)
3. Mouseup on the destination folder
Results:
Nothing happens. The mouse cursor doesn't change from the arrow. There is no indication I can drag and drop. The photos are not moved.
The photos are stored on a NAS. Of course I can move them around via Windows Explorer, but I want to do this from inside LR4 for obvious reasons. From LR4, I can create new folders, but I still cannot move photos into those folders. I also tried creating a new folder on a local drive. Again, I was able to create the folders, but was not able to move any photos into the folder.
I layout photos for albums and I just upgraded to CS4. Even though I have the snap to grids function selected my photos don't seem to be staying in line with the grid. I don't know what to do!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to group 10 objects together but every time i try to group them I get a message saying "Operation could not be completed. Active layer document grid is locked or invisible."
But even when i turn on the document layer visibility it still won't let me group them, and I can't turn the print or edit buttons on.
I made a drawing which contains lots of circles with a diameter of 12 and some lines that connect them. Pretty simple.
But.. i made the drawing with a x.xx precision (2 numbers and the program that has to load the .dxf file only likes all objects on the x. precision.. so no tents or hundredths precision.
I changed the precision from "0.00" to "0" in the unit settings but... the objects in my drawing still hanging on the old coordinates.
Is there any simple function or way to bulk action all this objects to the correct precision grid? I worked out that it is possible to select the circles which are in 1 horizontal line with each other and then change the Y setting to (for example) 45.0 if it was at 45 In this way it will put the circles on the correct grid. But... i have 1400 circles and lines
I also saw that the X coordinates of the circles in a horizontal line are different (ofcourse) and will be mentioned in autocad with *VARIES* I thought maybe can do something like *VARIES*.0 to put them on the correct grid but this kind of things didn't work.
align & distribute 'tools' i use them all the time.but it has always appeared thay they are only good for a single row of objects.
is this correct or is it possible to select a 'grid' of objects and have them evenly aligned & distributed?
I notice that when copying and pasting objects to another part of the same drawing it does not appear to be possible to get an exact alignment with the grid structure. I have done this with OSNAP switched OFF and with Snap ON but it does not give the desired result, the elements of the copied drawing always being just off the grid and not in true alignment.

Instead of having to mouse click the "copy" button in the move object window, one could just hold down option with Return or Enter and the Copy command would happen rather than a simple move. Immensely useful for prepress work!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with grid lines showing up in my print out from autocad, but only in the viewport that has 3D objects in it and displayed in conceptual mode or realistic mode. Don't know what is causing them or how to get rid of them. They do not show up on my screen or in the print preview. They only show up in the final prints and even when printing to a pdf file format. I have printed the same drawing out from other computers that have Autocad 2009 and do not get that problem. My computer has Autocad 2010. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Autocad but that doesn't work.
