[I moved this over from the Creative Cloud forum FWIW] I'm a packaging designer and recently have encountered a very problematic glitch.
I have a flat carton layout with an assortment of fonts. I saved the file one day – typical Save – just with PDF Content unchecked since that slows down my workflow. Several days later, I reopened it and all of those fonts were defaulted to Myriad Pro Regular.
Font auto-activation has been a problem in Creative Cloud, but that's not the problem. The fonts are active – they even appear properly in another layout using the many of the same text treatments.
And typically when a font is inactive and text is defaulting to Myriad, the character pallette shows you the intended font between < >
Not in this file. Every defaulted bit of text is indicated to be Myriad Pro Regular. No asterisk, No < >, No nothing. It's as if the font information was lost the last time I saved the file, and the only way to fix it is to manually replace each bit of text with the appropriate font.
Other designers in my group have noticed this happening occasionally as well.
How do I change the font used in the PS CS4 "File Info" dialog? The type on my Vista 64 machine is unreadable. All of the menus and everything else are okay; it's just this one dialog box. It's hard to keyword images.
The same dialog box on my Windows XP laptop looks fine, and I don't know why my desktop is using a different (inferior) font.
I'm on a iMac running 10.7.5 and all 3 of my Adobe products (Illustrator CS5.1, Photoshop CS5.1 and Flash CS5.5) have the same issue, the file info window is blank. It dosen't freeze up my machine but I have to force quit the program. I trashed the prefs file for photoshop and still no luck. The extension are whatever came with the install. It's the only menu item this happens with.
Is it possible to write an Illustrator (CS4) script that would find and replace 2 instances of text using the actual file name to supply the changing text?
Our current file naming system uses a Part Number, Catalog Number and Run Date. (example: 123456_ABCDEF_2014 JN)We are currently saving a master file as the new Part Number and simply doing 2 separate find and replace functions for the Catalog Number and Run Date. Unfortunately we have over 500 parts to change and thought we could narrow down the 1000 find and replace to just 500. Although this may not appear like such a time saver, the key factor would mean entering the changing data just once per file, minimizing errors and eliminating proof reading the actual file.
Here is what I have used for a simple find and replace script, but I cannot seem to find any information to connect the file name data.
[code]
var active_doc = app.activeDocument; var search_string = /ABCDEF/gi; // g for global search, remove i to make a case sensitive search var replace_string = "GHIJKL"; var text_frames = active_doc.textFrames; var search_string2 = /1234 XX/gi; // g for global search, remove i to make a case sensitive search var replace_string2 = "5678 YY";
I have an excel file with thousands of rows, each with a column for the x-coordinate, the y-coordiante, the height, and width of a rectangle. I need a script that will ask me to select the excel file, read the excel file, and create rectangles from each of the thousands of rows. I'm working in a windows environment and have Illustrator CS4. Any scripts out there that might give me a start?
How do I figure out what font is used on text layer on a .psd? I thought highlighting the text or selecting the layer would show me the font used, but it doesn't seem to work that way. Is there an info option or something that can give me this info?
I have trouble with font in illustrator and pdf. A customer sent me both Ai and Pdf files, the text are totally different.
When I open the illustrator there is one font (Arial Narrow Bold), but when i view the pdf using adobe acrobat the text has changed to another font (Myriad Roman).
The correct font is Arial Narrow Bold. It is very unprofessional to ask customer everytime what font they are using when they already provide me the Ai files.
I want to know what happen when converting to pdf. Are there any setting in pdf I should be aware of ? so I can tell customer next time to avoid this mistake.
How do I change the default font that is used for printing "Photo Info" in the Print Module? The only option I can find is the Font Size option, but what determines the default font that Lightroom uses to print the photo info?
As far as I can tell there is no way to change the "Photo Info" color to something other than black, is this correct?
I inherited an AI file that I need to work with. The main project is text and I can't (or don't know how) to identify the existing font.
So my question is, is it possible that the file creator made up the font in Illustrator? I tried the find font tool, and also when I try to import the file into photoshop it opens as a flattened image. How would I know if they did in fact create the font?
I used to be able to just open any image and my copyright info would be inserted into the file data. I guess it was a droplet, "when the file is opened or created then add file info from a xmp file". I still have the xmp file with all the data in but i am unsure how to implement it being automatically opened and added to the file when i create a new one? I thought i could handle it, i assume its a droplet of some sort.
After I save a file for "Web & Devices," when I open it, it returns this message, "This file contains file info data which cannot be read and has been ignored." Will this cause any problem with the file once I place it in the website I'm building? I've never seen this message before on a photo I've edited. The changes I made involved color correction.
After opening a file from another designer, this Chinese font has taken over my "omens – regular" font file. Anytime I use it, it converts to this font and each time I need to change a font weight, I must do it manually. As you can imagine, I use our company font all day so this slows me down quite a bit. Have you heard of this? It seems like some sort of font virus. I've researched removing it, yet can't seem to find the original font file to get rid of, which is even weirder."
We tried moving the font family to the trash, emptying the trash, rebooting the machine, and re-adding the font family and it still is happening.
Is there a way to specify a given system font that should be substituted for a given missing font? For example, the document I'm working with contains CourierStd and CourierStd-Bold which are not installed on my system. I would like to set Illustrator so that any time a document that contains these fonts is opened, Courier New and Courier New Bold are substituted automatically.
An eps file opens without any problem with the preview as .pdf on Mac OS 10.7.5In illustrator when I open the same file, the main font is not recognized and no warning said the font is not available.
Modifying the "file info" for a gif file (in my case, "General" tab, "Document Title" and "Description") doesn't actually get saved with the file - or, at least, if it is saved, it's not visible when re-opening the file.
I believe that I understood that metadata for .png format isn't supported, but I thought that .gif was. (Test case is easy: open .gif file, add a Title and Description, save, and re-open - information is gone).
I need to install a custom one that is working for CS5 and CS6, so that it can be seen and used in CC. But I don't know where to put it? (on the Mac)
for CS5 it goes here:
Main 3.0: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/XMP/Custom File Info Panels/3.0/panels/ User 3.0: /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/XMP/Custom File Info Panels/3.0/panels
for CS6 it goes here:
Main 4.0: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/XMP/Custom File Info Panels/4.0/panels/ User 4.0: /Users/[userName]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/XMP/Custom File Info Panels/4.0/panels
- Scratch files seem to be created even in 64 bit Photoshop with plenty of unused memory, so they are apparently not regular swap/page files. What sort of data Photoshop CS4 writes to them and why isn't this information kept in memory instead?
- Do scratch file writes/reads occur at the same time as operating system paging? Is there any practical reason not to put PS scratch disk and OS paging file on the same physical drive?
- Do scratch files benefit more from higher bandwidth or faster seek time?
- What is the typical ratio for Photoshop CS4 for reads and writes to scratch files?
As a digital art teacher I need to check the files my students submit for authenticity. I noticed that since the last 2 CS Suite upgrades the "File info" functionality is no longer available (File>File Info). When I open a student file and I select this option, a blank window appears. I cannot click out of it so I have to do a "Force Quit" and restart the application. I work with Photoshop and Illustrator. I need to be able to see who created the file and when the file was created. How do I restore functionality? Is there a plug-in I need now? I work on a Mac in CS Suites 5.1
I understand we no longer get thumbnails in file/open (apple and microsoft). But what happened to the detail panel for tiffs? I see it for jpegs (like who works with jpegs anymore). But not for tiffs. I have photoshop CS6 and am on Windows XP. I have the file/open function set for 'list.' I find setting it for anything else too cumbersome. And toggling bk and forth between file/open in photoshop and bridge is beyond cumbersome. How is this an improvement?
I'm renaming my image files from the original DSCF_1234 to say 11_1234 the 11 would be for player no 11 if i was covering a football match, what i want to know is, how i match the file to info in a database, & add that info to the image description.
I am just starting to use PS CS4. I am using a PC with Windows XP 64, 8 GB of RAM etc. The problem I am having is that when I try to add a caption to an image by going to File Info, I get a blank dialog box. It gives the filename at the top but just plain white blank inside the box. The same thing happens in File Info within Bridge. In the metadata panel in Bridge, I can see the metadata is there, including previous captions. But I cannot access them in File Info and I also cannot activate the caption within the metadata panel to edit the caption text.
