Illustrator :: Way To Specify A Given System Font That Should Be Substituted For Given Missing Font
Apr 12, 2013
Is there a way to specify a given system font that should be substituted for a given missing font? For example, the document I'm working with contains CourierStd and CourierStd-Bold which are not installed on my system. I would like to set Illustrator so that any time a document that contains these fonts is opened, Courier New and Courier New Bold are substituted automatically.
I work in the editorial office of a medical journal and receive AI files from authors. I often get the following message: 'Font not found on the system; missing font has been substituted' when I open a file. This is a particular problem for symbol font as, e.g., a beta would be substituted by a b. I thought that fonts or subsets of fonts were automatically embedded when the file is saved (this is what seems to happen in CS5 and CS6 when you save in ai format).
I have Installed the Creative Suite 6 with InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator under Windows 7 Professional 32bit. A customer specific font has been installed in Windows and shows up in Notepad, Microsoft Office 2010 and other programs including Photoshop CS6. For InDesign I had to copy it to the "Programdirectory"Fonts folder and this worked fine. Only Illustrator CS6 doesn't show this Font (a TrueType font "cust.ttf") as available when I want to format a text with it. I've searched Google and Adobe but no luck so far. Based on other articles I also renamed the "IllustratorFonts.lst file - but also to no avail...
I tried Nexus font (finally) and don't see why people have mentioned it. I don't like it and uninstalled it quickly.Which font manager do you think is better than Font Nav?
How can I import files, PDFs and EPS, with the Calibri font? When I try I am told that the Calibri Font is missing and will be substituted. Can I import the file? I've tried using a font program to install it on the system with no success.
I'm trying to open a document that says "LTUnivers-BasicBlack is missing". I have a font called Univers LT Std on my system. How can I tell Illustrator to use Univers LT Std wherever it sees LTUnivers?
After opening a file from another designer, this Chinese font has taken over my "omens – regular" font file. Anytime I use it, it converts to this font and each time I need to change a font weight, I must do it manually. As you can imagine, I use our company font all day so this slows me down quite a bit. Have you heard of this? It seems like some sort of font virus. I've researched removing it, yet can't seem to find the original font file to get rid of, which is even weirder."
We tried moving the font family to the trash, emptying the trash, rebooting the machine, and re-adding the font family and it still is happening.
An eps file opens without any problem with the preview as .pdf on Mac OS 10.7.5In illustrator when I open the same file, the main font is not recognized and no warning said the font is not available.
In PS CS4. On XP. Why do I receive this message? & When the font changes, it moves the text. Why would this occur? The file was designed in PS 7.0. Does that matter? I didn't think it should if that is the problem. & yes I am having that Arial Narrow problem, but I won't get into that. It is not reading my Tahoma font either.
When i open my psd file it says that the some text layers might need to be update. When i press the update button i get the message "Selected font failed during last operation. If problem persists, please disable the font". If i click "no" the file opens, but all text layers has a exclamation mark and a tooltip that says "font is present on system but requires a layout change" Â I have create the PSD file using the trail version of Adobe Photoshop CS6 (downloaded from adobe.com). That trail has expired so i have just purhased Photosop CS 6 (from adobe.com). Before installing the version i purhased, i uninstalled the trail version. Â I dont understand this. It the same computer and the font is a system font that comes with the OS (Windows). I cannot create any new text layers. Â If a create a new PSD file i get the same message ""Selected font failed during last operation. If problem persists, please disable the font" when ever i try create a text layer.I have installed all updates.
I've a problem with "DWGtoPDF"-Plotter of Acad2013. I give the textstyle "arial" in Acad and plot it to PDF. In the PDF-Sheet i see the Fontname "ArialMT" in the document-options. I want to give the PDF's away and fear, that he gets an error while opening.
I had posted in another thread about wanting to clean up a signature and make it look more font like. I tried that and it seemed to be pretty difficult due to the amount of random in a hand written signature.
So I think I'd like to approach this from the other direction. I have a font I like but I don't want it to look like the font (way too common). Is there a way to alter the font (not the entire font set or even to create a new font but just for a one word Logo)?
I'd ideally like to connect two of the letters and also modify the shapes of the letters just a bit.
I was using Extensis Suitcase Fusion 4 trial, and it ended, but when it did now because I can't use it, somehow it must have removed or just had de-activated the photoshop internal system font.   All of my panels and menus etc except for the top windows-menus lists, but everything else is missing - blank.  I can't do anything in photoshop practically speaking. Cannot see any layer names etc... normal type-tool and fonts loaded show up, but nothing in the program itself.  So I can't even enter numerical values for anything.  Illustrator, Indesign, Flash, Muse, Bridge, Premiere, After Effects - -- all of these are working just fine.... what is the specific font I need to re-install for Photoshop to display? It is the same font that starts listing when you open the program on the splash logo where it is saying "loading fonts" etc and all that stuff, its just blank..
Have a drawing that opens without errors, but when i save the same drawing using "DWG to PDF" the pdf saves and then the pdf opens and states "cannot find or create the font ArialMT some characters may not display or print correctly" and it is corrupted.
Can i replace the missing font in Autocad before plotting it to a pdf to get around
I'm wondering if there is a Font Preview plugin available that will do what Illustrator SHOULD HAVE done for many years - which is to actually allow you to toggle through your font list and display the text you entered in the fonts you are clicking through - - kind of like what CorelDraw has had for the last 15 years.  Imagine that... being able to review text in a selected font to facillitate the selection of an appropriate visual reference for logos, etc. Earth-shaking, I know.it seems there would be an Illustrator plugin by now that would do this???  Or do I have to continue to have CorelDraw opened up so that I can review text in various fonts to determine the best choice for a given project font?
I have Paint Shop Pro X4. I File/Open a .PSPIMAGE file and I get a Replace Font window telling me I am missing Font: BETSY.
I went to a download site [URL] and downloaded a Font called BETSY FLANAGAN which appears to be the font I need.
In the dropdown box for the Replace font, I search and find the BETSY FLANAGAN font I downloaded to the FONTS Folder. When I insert it, the text where it is used comes out odd. I have the original jpeg file, so I know the font is not the same. Is BETSY FLANAGAN the same as the missing BETSY font?
URL where I can download the correct font for free?
When I open a file that I have previously saved a message comes up saying the font Biondi Normal (Western) is not available and it wants to substitute with another font in this case Ribbon Normal which is nothing like the font I need.  I have read the previous threads but as they are quite old I thought there might be something new (perhaps easier) I could try.
I have linotype and i often type things in and scroll thru to see what font looks best. However, There are are a lot of fonts that are not available to PS cs5. Some of these fonts have Adobe at the design of their manes. They did not exist previous to me installing PS so i figure these are specifically made by Adobe fonts.  So why are these fonts not available in PS? Do i need a better font manager?
I have both Photoshop CS3 and CS5 installed on a Windows 7 64-bit system. Photoshop CS5 has two Helvetica fonts: one TrueType and one Type 1. The TT version only offers italic and bold italic styles. The T1 font offers the full suite of bold, italic, bold italic (or oblique), and medium (or regular). This seems odd, but it's sufficient. Photoshop CS3, on the same computer, only offers me the Helvetica TT font, with just the two styles mentioned above. Why can't CS3 see the T1 Helvetica? Why does the TT Helvetica only show me two styles? In case it's relevant, I believe the Type 1 version is the only one I deliberately installed, and I recently upgraded to a 2010 version of the font made available by Adobe.
I've designed a simple graphic in X6 and printed directly to Roland ecosol printer. My black text doesn't show up on the print. I've spent a few hours and a lot of paper trying to figure this out.Â
The black text that isn't showing up is designed to be on top of a yellow box. When I print as intended, the text doesn't show. However, when I move the text off the box, it is printed and visible. Is it a document setup, color management, or print settings issue? Or none of the above?Â
