I have some problems with rotation in Illustrator CS5. I created the logo and after that i need to make another position of entire logo on 90 degrees (vertical). But when i rotate the objects i have distortion effect only on that part where i use 3D effect.
View 2 RepliesTo summarize: It seems that compounding a path resets the rotation of the gradient to it's original degree of rotation.
Detailed version:
1. Create a shape.
2. Add a gradient fill. Note it's degree of rotation. Let's say it's set at 10°.
3. Now rotate the shape by any means (transform or rotate tool). Note the gradient degree of rotation has shifted the same amount as the shape was rotated (if it was rotated 50°, the gradient will show at 60°).
4. Make it a compound path.
5. Instantly the gradient shifts back to it's original degree of rotation of 10°.
It appears that when rotating a shape with a gradient, the rotation of the gradient is locked to the rotation of the shape. But when making it a compound shape it releases that lock and "remembers" it's original state. But that is only true as soon as you make it a compound path, but if you no go ahead and rotate it just a bit using the cursor (as opposed to selecting transform > rotate), the gradient will switch back to how you would expect it to rotate in the first place...
Workaround would be to make it a compound path before rotating the shape at all.
When I attempt to Unite this text (converted to outlines) with the rectangle above it - the objects are distorted. The top image is before uniting the object, the bottom is after.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI take a number of cemetery headstone photos and in trying to keep my shadow off the headstone, I stand to the side and the image usually gets distorted. I have Photoshop Elements 11. I'm sure there is a good way to do it. I tried Filter, Correct Camera Distortion but end up with a worse distortion than when I started.
I was hoping to attach an example photo but can't figure out how to. I just get a black screen when I click on "insert image" icon. how do I attach a photo to a discussion question and second how do I improve my photo image?
I have a horizontal bar graphic and I want to make it have the same shape than a circular graphic that I have as background.
What I do first is to rotate the graph (after converting it in an image) to the right angle, depending on where it has to be positioned. After that, I use the Effect->Deform->Arc to make it fit in the same shape as the circular graph. But when I do those processes (in any order) I get a distorted image, with lines not describing concentric lines (not as radius, I mean).
I got the perfect shape working on a MAC, but now I am working on PC. How can I achieve the same?

I am trying to create a circular graphic that is similar to a race track turn with banking. Is there a type of distortion filter or 3d that I can use that can create the feeling of a vanishing point that bends around a turn?

I have attached the layered image (reducing opacity so you can both template and image). The vendor provided me a flat template, not a path, to do my artwork. As you can see I need to arc the image without distorting to fit a cup template. I am more comfortable in photoshop but I can export to AI if necessary to complete which appears what I need to do via envelope distort from what I keep seeing. However, the template provided is not a path. I tried to trace template shape manually with pen tool and use envelope distort to arc my image to conform but it looked very distorted and no even close to what I was trying to achieve. I tried to do tradition arc warp in photoshop but it still seems to distort proportions.

Freeze Transformations: then the control curves rotational handle go back to being skewed (out of alignment with the joints)
We want to Freeze transformations before constraining the curve, but we'd really to keep those rotations control handles to remain aligned with the joints rotational handles. This will make it an exact control when animating - grab the rotational handle of the curve, rotate it, and the joint will move exactly in the proper direction.
how to get the rotational handle of any control curve to run perpendicular to the shape after freezing transformations?
I am making a template file having title block with fields. I use this template for creating layouts and sheets using Sheet Set Manager and the fields will be updated from the data of SSM. Now i would like to add a dynamic north block to my template. The block could be rotated (i have this block in file itself) and rotation angle could be inserted. Now how can i add a custom field to SSM so that i could set a rotation angle for the project and thus every new layout or sheet created using the template has the north block rotated with the angle mentioned in SSM.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a North Arrow that I would love to make into a dynamic block. I would like to be able to rotate the N that represents where the north direction is. But while rotating the N around the center of a circle I would like the letter itself to stay un-rotated. It seems simple, if I rotate the letter around the axis of a circle 90 deg, I would like the letter itself to rotate -90 deg on it's own axis. Of course this is easy to do manualy, but how do i do it so that rotation 1 automaticaly triggers rotation 2?

Is there a way to reorientate the artboard with guides in place?
after rotating a line to make it diagonal, how do you check the degree that it is diagonal so it can be replicated with other lines? It does't show this in Info or Transform Panels.
View 3 Replies View RelatedPreviously, every time I selected an object (line, shape, text...etc) the program gave me an option to rotate or change the size of the object by creating a square with four points around the selection. I could then click and drag a corner of my selection thus rotating it and/or changing it's size.
Now, for some reason, this feature has been disabled and the only way I can manipulate the object is by physically typing in a new percentage for it's size or by going to the Object>Transform Menu. Did I accidentally hit a key command that disables this feature?
Not sure how I did it, but my grid (not the perspective grid) is now slightly rotated on my artboard. How can I undo this rotation?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI learned out to make the tick marks using copies and rotation. My question now is, how is the rotation calculated so A) I get the correct placement of the tick marks, especially the small ones as there are so many and B) how do I calculate the rotation degree so that I have the proper amount of space at the bottom of the guage/dial?
I know how to get the large tick marks and the small tick marks, if I were placing them evenly around the entire circle, I would know how to do that also - but since I'm placing them around only a portion of the circle (although still evenly) I'm lost. I can only figure out the space by hit and miss calculations and that is taking much too long. I would also need to know how much to rotate the entire thing by in order to get the open space at the bottom as shown.
It seems as though the axes in my Illustrator CS4 installation are rotated. Whenever I create a new object, the new object is rotated about -5.2º. When constraining the rotation of objects, the rotation is never square to the document edge. How do I fix this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use Illustrator CS5 (as well as Photoshop CS5) on my Lenovo X61 Tablet (running Windows 7 32 bit) in 270° screen rotation (I think this is called secondary portrait mode in windows?), but my X and Y cursor positions are inverted. This means if my stylus is on the left half of the screen, my cursor will be on the right side, the same distance away from the right border as my stylus is from the left. Likewise if my stylus is somewhere in the top half of the screen, the cursor will be somewhere in the bottom half of the screen, the same distance from the bottom border as the stylus is from the top. The only time the cursor and stylus positions match is in the dead center of the screen.
The stylus is working properly in other applications in this screen rotation, including InDesign CS5 (the only other Adobe product I've tried with this), just not in Illustrator or Photoshop.

I got too smart for myself today in bringing an old drawing up to current standards...Everyone seems to want their block attributes to be zero - I have blocks where the attributes are best when they match the rotations of each blocks.
I have an old drawing that was rotated (as it should be) at approx 2deg.
I used a lisp routine to global edit all the blocks that needed to be at zero. BUT for some reason (and after hundreds of blocks were corrected), I noticed I now have two blocks that should NOT have been in the set have had their attributes rotated to zero....and the attributes should be at the same rotation as their block's rotation.
Because those two blocks have a fixed tic mark, I can click on the mark to see what the block rotation is, then rotate its attribute to that rotation, but I have hundreds of blocks! One-at-a-time sucks....
Any chance there is a GLOBAL way to edit an attribute rotation to match its own block's rotation?
I have been using illustrator since cs2. And since then i have been troubling with the texts which created in another program. Mostly Microsoft Word.
After converting .doc to .pdf, texts get seperated.
You can see what i mean from the screen shot. As you see all dots on left hand side are seperated and the text which seperated by space button also becomes different text boxs. I moved the texts on the 4th line to point it out. Is there a tool or trick to build the words in to a single text sentence or paragraph? I imagine a tool like shape builder. I need this badly because i have plenty of pages to fix.
formatting a logo for the web.
1.) I am putting an Illustrator logo on a Photoshop web banner graphic. What is the best procedure to apply this to the banner? Right now, I am exporting it from Illustrator to a native Photoshop file with export options as follows:
Color model RGB
Screen 72 dpi
Write layers checked
Preserve text checked
Maximum editability checked
Anti-aliasing checked
2.) What is the best format to to send to my client if he plans to use this logo for future web use? Simple RGB, or should I output on Save for Web and Devices for other options such as a GIF or PNG-24?
I need to export my logo from illustrator to a dxf for a sign I'm having made. However, they said that illustrator is exporting it using "splines" and they need me to change my settings to export as "polylines." How to do this and didn't see it in my export options. I'm using Illustrator CS4..

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've set out to give this logo some 3D elements for some pop. I don't want to just extrude the thing as if it was a cylinder, I want to extrue the Triniti symbol, circles, as well as the black and green quadrants in some way. Not exactly sure, but I'll figure that out later. Afterwards I will possibly be dropping the logo into Aftereffects and making some kind of animated 3D intro with it. Here is the logo:
So I took a png of the logo, auto traced the image in illustrator, and used the 3D extrude effect. This was the result:
Obviously not what I'm looking for. Even if I only extruded parts of the logo, the behavior of the 3D effect would never give me what I'm looking for. Looking at tutorials, the extude effect seems to only be good for text and non layered shapes.
What I'm trying to accomplish is something that I could see working just fine in some kind of CAD software like Solidworks. I would just select the features I want, and extrude them as I desired. I do have access that piece of software, but I feel like that is a wierd work around, and I would have problems when it came time to apply the proper colors, and when I would bring the logo back into after effects for animation.
I also tried dropping the logo into After Effects directly and did the whole "convert shapes from vector layer" and using ray tracing tried extruding it there, but I can only extrude the entire logo, not individual parts.
How could this happen? I tried to scale a logo down to fit a stamp and Illustrator destroys it by distorting the paths.

A logo file was sent over to me with a white background. I am very new to Illustrator so I do not know how to change this. I checked the layers and it only shows 1 layer and an image file. I tried saving for the web, but there is no transparency area there either.

I will need to resize the logo 'precise formwork ltd' (in black) to match similar size to the chrome photo behind with opacity turned down.
How can I align the top of my ruler markings to the black path? I have tried object > blend > replace spine but the option is not selectable.
I tried object > make with warp which is working well, however I will have to guess co-ordinates all night and will never be perfect;
