Illustrator :: Undo Grid Rotation On Artboard?
Dec 26, 2013Not sure how I did it, but my grid (not the perspective grid) is now slightly rotated on my artboard. How can I undo this rotation?

View 3 RepliesI've just rotated an artboard to portraight from landscape, then selected all the guides and transform rotated them 90 deg. With this method all the guides need to be readjusted for corrrect positioning
Is there a way to reorientate the artboard with guides in place?
I have this mysterious grid on my art board that appeared because I hit something accidentally. It is a mesh grid for some purpose. No clue what it is or how to get rid of it, let alone describe it. Remains after I turn the visibility of all my layers off. No selection tool will select it. Unknown cubic icon in upper left of art board. No apparent cues in Illustrator about what this is. Nothing in appearance panel. Lovely program, Adobe. I just upgraded from CS3 to CS6; not a feature in CS3.
The only solution I know is to create an entirely new document and cut and past may entire illustration into it.
Sometimes when I drag a new symbol instance to my artboard and resize it, the instance looses it alignement with the pixel grid.
This happens despite the fact that...
I checked the box for pixel grid alignement when I created the documentthe symbol option is set for align to pixel gridthe original shape in the symbol is aligned to pixel grindthe original shape has the align to pixel grid check box in the transform panel checked
So why when I resize the symbol instance does it break the pixel grid alignmnet and result in a blurred 1px stroke?
1.) I dragged out vertical and horizontal guides from the rulers and then created a new art board. The new art board now has the horizontal guides carried over from the first art board. How can I have separate guides on each of my art boards? I am using art board rulers.
2.) Is there a way to layout vertical and horizontal guides on an art board and copy them over to a new blank art board?
i have around 500 eps formats images with different artboard size.
i need to resize the artboard to A4 size and the images to be placed in the centre of the artboard.
To summarize: It seems that compounding a path resets the rotation of the gradient to it's original degree of rotation.
Detailed version:
1. Create a shape.
2. Add a gradient fill. Note it's degree of rotation. Let's say it's set at 10°.
3. Now rotate the shape by any means (transform or rotate tool). Note the gradient degree of rotation has shifted the same amount as the shape was rotated (if it was rotated 50°, the gradient will show at 60°).
4. Make it a compound path.
5. Instantly the gradient shifts back to it's original degree of rotation of 10°.
It appears that when rotating a shape with a gradient, the rotation of the gradient is locked to the rotation of the shape. But when making it a compound shape it releases that lock and "remembers" it's original state. But that is only true as soon as you make it a compound path, but if you no go ahead and rotate it just a bit using the cursor (as opposed to selecting transform > rotate), the gradient will switch back to how you would expect it to rotate in the first place...
Workaround would be to make it a compound path before rotating the shape at all.
When using the perspective grid tool and type, I have a word on the right side of the grid in perspective, and I want to make a shadow of this word flat on the bottom grid. (Like how a tall building casts a shadow flat on the ground)
I tried using the shear tool to do it but it is a bit tricky getting it just right. There must be an easier way to do it within the perspective tool grid.
When I type the word and align it to the bottom grid, how do I rotate it whilst still being aligned in perspective on the bottom grid?If I try and rotate the word using the selection tool it rotates off axis so it is no longer laying flat on the bottom grid.
Words placed on the bottom grid always read from the left vanishing point - I want the word to read from the right vanishing point so it aligns with my word on the right grid wall.
want to translate my vector illustrations to charts for cross stitch kits. Using the grid tool, but the lines aren't equally spaced? I have a 100cm x 100cm document at the moment, with 1 cm making a 'stitch'. I want a grid that is 100cm x 100cm, made up of 1cm x 1cm squares for simplicity. Then be able to print the design out on the grid.

So first you'd need to add an option to save the undo history (so that you always keep the history from when you started). Then you'd need an option to playback the undo history.
Is there a way to undo without zoom as part of the undo?

I have a problem understanding how undo marks are added to the undo stack. In the code below a fan of lines are draw in a random location. If you run MTest a few times, the AutoCAD Undo command will remove the fans one at a time.
If you run MMulti to draw 10 fans, the AutoCAD Undo command will remove all the fans in a single step.I want to be able to remove the fans one at a time.I thought that a StartTransaction / Commit pair would act as markers for the undo stack, but this isn't working.
Tested on AutoCAD 2010 VS 2008
<CommandMethod("MMult")> _
Sub testmult()
Dim i As Integer
For i = 1 To 10
Call testdraw()
Next
End Sub

In Illy CS4 and CS5 I was able to Purge undo's by pressing Cmd+Opt+Shift+F12 which brings up a hidden Memory panel and a button to Purge Undo's but it doesnt seem to work in Illy CS6. Any hidden feature to purge undo's in Cs6?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter recently updating to CS6 I have noticed that if I delete an object, say registration marks, I can't undo that action. Undo will work in every other situtation, color change, move, etc. but not if the item was deleted. This is a major problem as I have had to completely close designs and start fresh because an important item was accidentally deleted and I couldn't get it back.

Working in Illustrator CC (latest version) and my undo key command is going back in time and undoing stuff I did earlier in the file. I'm on a Windows 7 machine.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen setting up a simple FK control curve on say the wrist for example, many times the control curve isn't exactly perpendicular to the local rotation axis of the joint movement, so when we position the control curve to be perpendicular to the joint - it has a rotational value added, but the rotational handles are lines up with the rotational handles of the joint that we want to move.
Freeze Transformations: then the control curves rotational handle go back to being skewed (out of alignment with the joints)
We want to Freeze transformations before constraining the curve, but we'd really to keep those rotations control handles to remain aligned with the joints rotational handles. This will make it an exact control when animating - grab the rotational handle of the curve, rotate it, and the joint will move exactly in the proper direction.
how to get the rotational handle of any control curve to run perpendicular to the shape after freezing transformations?
I am making a template file having title block with fields. I use this template for creating layouts and sheets using Sheet Set Manager and the fields will be updated from the data of SSM. Now i would like to add a dynamic north block to my template. The block could be rotated (i have this block in file itself) and rotation angle could be inserted. Now how can i add a custom field to SSM so that i could set a rotation angle for the project and thus every new layout or sheet created using the template has the north block rotated with the angle mentioned in SSM.
Here is the file...........
I have a big artboard with a simulation of a webpage, and a smaller artboard within it, where I'm designing the artwork, so that I know how the big picture will look. In the end, I intend to export the contents of the small artboard. The problem is that whenever I click by accident on the small artboard, my view of the web page gets off-centre.So in short, If I could just lock the small artboard, that would solve this annoyance. For now, I have two options: either delete the artboard and set it back in the end (it's got to be perfeclty positioned though) or, quite practically, just create a custom view with a shortcut that I can use instead of the "Actual size" one (Cmd+1).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm designing some business cards, which have an 1/8" bleed, along with elements that hang outside of the border of the card. Is there a way in Illustrator CS3 that I can say, "hide everything outside of the Artboard" so I can see what the finished product will look like?
I know I could print them out or output to PDF and see it without the non-Artboard items, but these approaches seem clumsy and labor intensive. I'd like it if I could have some sort of "cropped view"--where everything not on the Artboard is hidden--to work in.
I'm finding that when i add a second artboard to an existing ai, then save and close, it has disappeared on reopening.
I have both pieces of artwork (one for each page), but 1 of the artboards will have disappeared. Irritatingly the remaining artboard sits between the 2 pieces of artwork - in the wrong position for both!!!
I am struggling with the "sAIArtSet->MatchingArtSet()" in restricting it to find the artset from the selected artboard only.
One way is to iterate through the found art set and compare art's artboard index with the index of the selected artboard. Wanted to know if there is some internal SDK suite which does this iteration in a more optimized way ?
Illustrator cs5 will not export to artboard, even though the artboard is properly set and "Use artboards" is clicked in export dialogue box.
Bleed areas are set and crop marks, all of which print fine. But I want to export to jpeg just to see how the cropped output will look.
I have tried googling this and am able to save each artboard as a jpg but not as an eps or ai file.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI used to export layers by deleteing the ones I didn't want, then exporting as an illustrator file, then undoing all the layer deletions.
Recently I had to switch up so that I call another plugin which inserts information into the file I'm working on. Then that plugin sends control back to the original to do all the ai file exporting I mentioned above.
Somehow after I get controll back I cannot undo the layer deletions. Does it have something to do with the "nested plugins" notes in the contexts sections of the undo documentation.
I have to confess I don't fully understand these "contexts". Also if there's another way to export a layer of a file other than deleting all the other ones.
I have been working on a project and illustrator and accidentally reverted the file. Is there any possible way to recover the previous file or undo the revert command?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to get rid of the black border around the artboard. The two images show my drawing lined up with the art board and then inside the artboard. The dark gray is not the artboard.
As you see, the artboard has a black border. I need to get rid of it. It shows up in my project when my color key is green. The black won't go to transparent.
So how-to get rid of the border?
I figured it out. View > Hide Artboards.
