sometimes i open an Illustrator file with a missing image link. I have many image folders depending on the job and it would be great to be able to copy and paste the photo very long text to search for it in my HD.

I am having trouble with Adobe Illustrator "copy" and "paste" functions. It take a very long time (as long as 30 min) to copy a simple line and even longer to paste it. This probles is getting worse. My file size is unusual as well. A comparable file is 155k and this one is up to 65 meg and growing.

As an example, I'm keeping a sailing logbook and I would like to add the daily entries to pictures but I have run into problems when sharing images elsewhere. The string length exceeds the metadata standard lengths.
Which standard metadata fields allow longest text strings that I could use for my logbook entries without the fear of losing them when exporting or sharing them elsewhere?
I've made a template file which includes several linked files (logo's in different shapes).
I've made a map and within that map the template file (.pdf) and 3 linked logofiles (.eps files)
I thought when I copy all 4 in a new map (for a new customer) and changed the 3 linked logofiles and then opened the newly copied template file in Illustrator...
that the template file would include the new logo's. But the links still point to the origial 3 logo files.
Is there a way to link the files within the map where the template file is??
in my Link window I still see the linke to an image that i have as embedded as well. How do I delete the link ? I didn't see a delete function in the link window, respectively in the dropdown of the window.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a data folder on the server mapped as network drive to the clients. The data folder contains all cad data stored from productstream professional.
Due to an over 10 year old environment the data folder contains a huge amount of cad files, library parts, iParts and so on.
Due to historical growth of the environment there are some missing parts (not available on the file system anymore), because they were deleted, are corrupt, and so on. At the root of the data folder there is located the typical cmpinv11.ipj inventor project file.
If you open an assembly either from productstream or via inventor (without productstream) directly from the data folder and the assembly has an unresolved child component because the file isn't there anymore it takes a very very long time until the dialog box for unresolved link comes up (waiting time several minutes 1...10min). Once reached this point one can skip and repair the assembly, of course.
But the question is, how to speed up the time for getting the unresolved link dialog?
The network connection itself is quite OK und the project file itself is also OK. The project file list of every user is pretty small (only cmpinv11.ipj and some standard ipj's).
We think inventor internally scans the whole project-file folders to ensure that the component is really missing but due to the huge environment this takes many minutes and is annoying.
Any bypass for that? Is it possible to apply a temporär setting before opening a potential inconsistent assembly? Or is there a setting like skip unresolved components by default or by a defined timeout?
Because it is Inventor 2010 (Productstream PRO 210) there is no File open Option Auto-Skip unresolved components (like in 2012) but even if it was I guess it wouldn't reduce the time to get the dialog either.
Normally what i did after client approved Final Artwork i have to open one by one by click option + double clik the link image. is there any command or action that i dont know off to compile all the LINK file by one click and save it in one folder?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI placed a .psd image in Illustrator CS5 at 100% at 600ppi. My link information is telling me that it is at 600ppi. But when I do a 90degree rotation, my link information is now telling me that I have a picture resolution of 859ppi x 420ppi. Why is that? From what I know and learned, a resolution doesn't change except when we change the scaling of an image but not rotating it.
This made me wonder because when we receive files from customer with embed images, how can I know that this image wasn't rotated and that the link informations panel is giving me the right numbers?
I have a document with several artboards. In each artboard is a different linked image. Is there a way to add the linked filename to the bottom of each artboard?

View 1 Replies View RelatedCurrently we create presentation documents InDesign. Each presentation page is a linked Illustrator file (the file contains drawings and description texts). We write the text in Illustrator instead of over it in InDesign because multiple designers/writers will work on each page. We have text that sometimes appear on multiple pages, this text has previously been copied and pasted into each Illustrator file that it needs to appear in, this is inefficient and prone to error.
Is there a way to link to a text file in Illustrator that remains updatable? I poked around here and found information relating to Variable Data – things similar to Data Merge in InDesign. This isn't the solution I'm looking for however. It seems like a plugin or script is the solution.

The text and image code work, however my problem is with setting the link. It always sets all the symbols to the last name in the names[] array. What I want it to do is to set the link to the personalised name in the array. So the HH button will link to hugh.html and the BM button will link to brym.html etc.
For now I'm going to play around a bit and see what happens.
i am trying to create a drop shadow on text. i select the text and then copy and then paste in back. however, the copy shows up way above the text and not behind it. what am i doing wrong?

This hotfix is already installed.
This particular file (and a few others) has an issue whereby the computer pauses for a LONG time whenever an XREF is placed OR a copy/paste system command is executed (not the COPY AutoCAD command, but Ctrl+C/V). I have audited and purged the file; there are no audit errors. I also tried recovering the file and it made no difference.
I checked one of the problemmatic files on my machine (different machine but still AutoCAD 2012 and Win7) and the same file has the same issues.
New files do NOT have this problem. I have attached the file. Steps to recreate the problem:
1. draw a simple rectangle
2. try to copy/paste it with ctrl+c/v
3. this other machine and my machine both pause for 8-10 seconds
I'm confident that it's something in the file, but I don't know how to track it down.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI sometimes use a trick of creating a virtual copy to get a text element of a NxN image. For example, I might use 8 images for a 3x3 and need a fourth "image" (i.e., column 1, row 2) for text. I like to take image 3 and make a virtual copy, then get that looking the way I want as my text box. When I print, I don't have to create a collection to order my images as long as the sequence-taken, along with the text box in position 4, is okay. I guess in LR 3, the virtual copy sorted after the original.
Well, I just tried the trick and the virtual copy comes before the original. I still wanted to shy away from creating a collection, so played another trick - I used the option to change the capture time under the Library module's Metadata menu, and bumped the text box up 1 second later. But the sort hasn't changed! I even forced a reconsideration of the sort by changing from capture time sort to added time sort, then back again.
Though I'm being "devious" here, it does seem to not be working correctly. Maybe sorting ignores metadata of virtual copy images?
Illustrator CS5.5 on Mac: When I copy text from one Illustrator document and paste it in a different document, the text canges to Myriad (the deafult font). Is there a setting somewhere to preserve the formatting? Even pasting into an existing text style still changes the font.
View 39 Replies View RelatedThe goal is to copy a text object from one illustrator(CS6) document to another maintaining live type and having a graphic style applied from the appearance panel. When an effect like an arch is applied it is converting the text to outlines during the copy and paste, however a straight fill will not. The type of font (TrueType, OpenType, Postscript) does not seem to affect the problem.
Alternatively I have been able to take the desired appearance, create a graphic style from it, apply that to a path and transfer the graphic style to the new document via copy/paste, then apply it to live type on the new document. Obviously this is not ideal.
I've looked around for this but haven't found much. I have a server with thousands of print proof sheets, and since the beginning, long before me, the files were saved with verbal descriptive names. It would be a lot better if they were saved according to the PO number. All the proof sheets have a po number listed in pretty much the same place on the sheet... is there a way to copy that PO number from the field within the pdf, and save the file to a new folder using that number as the filename using a script?
View 28 Replies View RelatedI have a few users which are all experiencing the same issue. They didn't seem to have this issue until upgrading from CS5 to CS6.
Basically AI stops responding (usually permanantly hangs and requires restarting app) for at least 30 seconds when trying to copy an image from AI into PS. The method they're using is to directly select the image from AI and then simply paste directly into PS (I know there are other methods of doing this but this is apparently the way they have always done it).
Their machines are very well spec'd
OS - Win7 64-bit
RAM - 8 to 32GB!
CPU - i7 INTEL
GPU - Standard (but compatible) and has latest drivers but disabled by PS as i suspect it's not quite grunty enough?
Win7 has been fully updated as well as all Adobe products / Drivers etc...
I have tweaked both AI & PS (including the File Handling & Clipboard setting which enables AICB) for better performance. I think I have basically tried everything and confused as this wasn't a problem when they were using CS5?
Trying to do a piece with plain flat san-serif text on a spiral extruding into the distance with the center of the spiral as the vanishing point. When I do this, some extruded faces are created and others do not. Usually teh curved parts of the letters get extruded but the flat surfaces (like the flats sitting on the baseline) do not. Tried both as editable test and as outlines. Same surfaces were missing.
Tested with a much simpler version - 2 lines of text with returns between them so one line was near the top of hte page ans the other near the bottom so the extrusion would use the center of the page as the vanishing point. Similar result but different surfaces were missing.
I know the CS suite is not meant to be a 3d powerhouse but I realy don't have the time (or money) to learn Maya or Blender or similar. I'm decent at Google SketchUp but importing eps outlined into the Pro version yields thousands of unconnected segments. Might as well draw the text by hand at that point...

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I copied text over from Photoshop to illustrator it kept the text formatting. For example the font, font size, color. Now when I use CC and copy paste text from PS to AI, all text formatting is lost and everything is placed as whatever the current AI text setting is.
HOWEVER, pasting from AI to PS WORKS as it should. All font/text formatting is maintained. Is this a bug or is there a setting for this that I just never knew about?
Is there some kind of script that copy text box attributes (X, Y, W, H) and contents (text) and apply the to new text box?
that is the steps to do this procsses
1- create new text box
2- copy the width attribute and apply it on the new text box, I repeat this with with X, Y, Hight attributes.
3- copy the content to the new box
4- delete the old text box
