Lightroom :: Creating Virtual Copy To Get Text Element Of NxN Image
Apr 1, 2012
I sometimes use a trick of creating a virtual copy to get a text element of a NxN image. For example, I might use 8 images for a 3x3 and need a fourth "image" (i.e., column 1, row 2) for text. I like to take image 3 and make a virtual copy, then get that looking the way I want as my text box. When I print, I don't have to create a collection to order my images as long as the sequence-taken, along with the text box in position 4, is okay. I guess in LR 3, the virtual copy sorted after the original.
Well, I just tried the trick and the virtual copy comes before the original. I still wanted to shy away from creating a collection, so played another trick - I used the option to change the capture time under the Library module's Metadata menu, and bumped the text box up 1 second later. But the sort hasn't changed! I even forced a reconsideration of the sort by changing from capture time sort to added time sort, then back again.
Though I'm being "devious" here, it does seem to not be working correctly. Maybe sorting ignores metadata of virtual copy images?
When I import images into Lightroom 3 on my iMac I do so as DNG. Do I need to make a Virtual Copy of an image before I begin editing it? Is the imported DNG the Master and it will not be touched by editing, and is it safe or do I have to back it up on my hard drive---or is that done automatically?
In LR 4, I have created a virtual copy for the purpose of cropping, but when I crop it in Develop, the original image is getting cropped as well. Have I misunderstood something?
I have an image from a 7D to which I have only applied Enable Lens Profile, Remove CA, Constrain to warp, Manual Vert Perspective and Crop with Constrain Aspect Ratio Switched off.
The cropped dimensions of this image is now 2763 x 4472.
If I copy all settings and paste to a fresh untouched virtual copy of this image the resulting size is 2752 x 4453. The shot is part of a bracketed tripod shoot in AV mode, if I copy and paste to the other two untouched images the resulting size is also 2752 x 4453.
I need to make a series of subtle corrections to match an output. I want to use Virtual copies. But I can't see how I can for instance label copy 1 "Reduced Saturation" or "-10 Clarity"
With several VCs of the same original image, If I try to change something in meta data it copies over to its siblings as well.
Is it possible to make a VC where the copy hase the detail of the changes made to the original.
Currently, all the changes are in the copy, but the detailed history of changes is not there. This precludes making the same backward steps that one could do with the original.
In Windows Lightroom (3.5 at the moment), if I select one or more images and then, on the left, right click and create a new collection, I'm given the option of creating new virtual copies of the selected images for inclusion in the new collection. I use this all the time.
However, once the collection is created, I've not found a simple, one-step method to add virtual copies of additional images to that collection. Best I've come up with is the three step process: create a virtual copy, drag the virtual copy to the collection, and then remove the virtual copy from the folder/collection where I created it. It would be far cooler if there was, say, a keyboard shortcut, e.g. alt-click-drag or something, that would do this all in one step. Is there such a method?
I've completed a book and want to make sure that when I return to it, the pictures which will appear only if the edits I made at the time I published the book. I find a "create virtual copy" option when first saving a book, but am a bit befuddled as to how to ensure the book is associated with the correct copy of the photo upon subsequent saves.
i am trying to create a drop shadow on text. i select the text and then copy and then paste in back. however, the copy shows up way above the text and not behind it. what am i doing wrong?
My computer is Mac running on Snow Leopard 10.6.8 I set up my lightroom so I could edit in Element 10, but it doesnt work. It doesn't open up the image to the Element 10. This what I did;Lightroom > Preference > "External Editing" tab > choose "Adobe Photoshop Element 10 editor"
I have created virtual copies of an image in Lightroom 4 and I am wondering what will happen to these if I delete the folder containing the master image and its virual copies from the LR4 catalog? Will the virtual copies be automatically deleted? If so, is this reversible in any way? Will i recover these virual copies if I add the folder back into LR's catalog later on?
Also will Adobe Bridge be able to read these virtual copies in both before and even after the folder has been removed from LR4? Or is the 'virtual copy' functionality specific to LR and that the only way to preserve it is to keep the original image within LR and never delete it?
When soft proofing, I split the image horizontally and then create proof image when asked after making first alteration. However, in both LR4.4 and 5Beta, both the original and virtual (i.e., proofing image) change.
Have l Brightness value of 55 in original. Proofed image is duller. Increase brightness in proof by 10 to match original. (Figures are just for explanation) Now when I compare images again, original image brightness has increased by 10 also. This can be seen, of course, on the Develop panel.
I use to have all my pictures in a single catalog - "MyPics". It contains around 50.000 photos.
Last week, LR4 has silently created a new copy of my catalog: "MyPics-2". No warning, no message. I did not notice immediately.
The 2 catalog files have roughly the same size, but the preview folders are very different: old: 350MB, 100 files, 115 folders new: 280GB, 47000 files, 34000 folders I assume it moved the preview files from old to new.
Is my assumption of moved preview files correct? Is this related to the upgrade from LR3.6 to LR4?
I am having a strange issue with a specific file. If I copy to clipboard any element in this file it locks up. If I wblock the drawing, it locks up. If I open a blank file and select an element and drag and drop it in to the new blank file, it works fine.
If I copy to clipboard the droped element in the new file it works fine. It is local to this one file. This one file is most probably a 2008 file originaly, opened and saved to 2012.
What gremlins should I look for from older verstion to newer version that would cause this issue?
I'm having problems creating the element in DBTEXT BackgroundWorker in VB! Develop a function to create the element dbtext in the current document, when I use this function within <Autodesk.AutoCAD.Runtime.CommandMethod("")> it works perfectly, but when it is used within BackgroundWorker raises the point of different alignment indicated. And the problem is solved when you run the AUDIT command in the project, then the alignment points are corrected. The same problem is occurring for the blocks that have attributes, in this case the alignment points are also displaced the attributes of the standard indicated.
Public Function NewDBText(ByVal InsertPoint As Point3d, ByVal Rotation As Double, ByVal LayerName As String, ByVal ForceColor As String, ByVal AttacPoint As AttachmentPoint, ByVal TextValue As String, ByVal Height As Double) As ObjectId Try Dim DBTextBase As New DBText DBTextBase.Rotation = Rotation DBTextBase.Layer = LayerName
Is there an easier way to create gridlines as a design element? I know you can set/adjust the grid in the preferences, but I would like to be able to have the gridlines as something editable (changing colors/scale, etc.) and as an element in the piece (as opposed to just a guide overlay that's not integrated).
Up til now I've been doing this the hard way, using guides and the line tool to create/copy/move each line, etc. building it piece by piece...while this works,
we've made a part from an assembly and put the stress analysis to the test. Unfortunately the analysis doesn't complete it's run, because of an error:
"An error occurred while creating the finite element mesh. The cause may be invalid geometry or features that are extremely small in comparison to the overall dimensions of the part. To fix the problem, please suppress those problematic features or use standard meshing method."
We can't change the thickness of the sheet-metal, because it's a model which comes from a supplier with a different cad-program. And supressing any features isn't possible, because it's a base-solid.
But where can we change it to the standard meshing methode? The program is recently re-installed on my computer, the settings haven't changed since it's been installed. We can't find the feature.
I am trying to find a way to copy a text layer in one image to another image of the same size so that the text layer is in the exact same location.
Basically I have two images for a rollover button for a website. What is the easiest way to copy a text layer to the other image so that it will be in the exact same location to create the rollover effect?
sometimes i open an Illustrator file with a missing image link. I have many image folders depending on the job and it would be great to be able to copy and paste the photo very long text to search for it in my HD.
This is an example [URL]
I am not able to select this very long text and copy / paste action. How do you manage to do it?
I use photoshop 3.0 and am familiar with basic functions, but now i need to create a vector image - this is for uploading to a t shirt design web site. The writing needs to be in Russian, which i have successfully cut and pasted into photoshop.
ps cs3 won't open an image after i select copy or use original from LR 3 3.5 /camera raw 6.5.if i select open with LR adjustments (first choice at top) image will open.i'm guessing this has something to do with the version of camera raw?
I bought a Canon S100 specifically for its GPs and movie capability. On a recent vacation, I used the S100 and a Nikon D300. In cases where images were taken with both cameras in approximately the same place, I would like to copy the GPS information from the S100 CR2 files to the D300 NEF files.
I have a 3D Text using VideoCopilot's Element 3D effect on a 2D Solid Layer. With a camera, I can orbit it around in 3D space with other 3D layers. But when I pre-compose all of it and orbit the camera, the 3D Text doesn't move, only the other 3D layers. How can I move everything together? I've tried all of the combinations of Collapse Transformations/3D switches...
