Can Gimp superimpose text in landscape orientation on photo?If so, I can not find in the documentation how to do this.

is there a way to set an a4 in landscape orientation rather than seeing it as a portrait? and i don't want to change the settings from a4 vice versa to make it landscape.id like to know if there is a hidden option for the orientation we can set our document to.

I have a number of multi-page docs created in PSE. No matter what printer I select, and despite them being in a standard portrait size/orientation, the print options ALWAYS default to landscape. I've checked the actual printer under "printers and devices", and the actual settings there are portrait.
This is worse because I must actually use the print options dialog box to move manually through EACH PAGE of the document to be printed, and set the printer options to "portrait" on every page. If I fail to do even one page, the entire document is printed landscape, cutting of page contents.
The preview shows each page is indeed landscape until I do this procedure, at which time it flips the page to portrait, one at a time.
Doesn't matter what printer is used.
Also, once printed, if I immediate open the print dialog again, same printer and everything, once again it has landscape.
There seems to be no memory whatsoever for orientation (other settings, like resolution, are maintained during the run on PSE, but are always lost when PSE is closed). Again, in particular, orientation for every page, individually, on each print attempt, is always set to landscape, no matter that the document is not in that orientation.
Is there even a way to specify document orientation? Is there something PSE does to attempt to determine orientation that might be wrong? Can I make PSE remember printer settings, or at least use the system defaults for the printer?
I recorded these two Actions:
1) resize a Portrait orientation image to a height of 800 pixels (constraining proportions) and then “Save for Web” to a jpg with a quality of 24%
2) resize a Landscape orientation image to a width of 800 pixels (constraining proportions) and then “Save for Web” to a jpg with a quality of 24%
How can I create one Action that will work for both Landscape and Portrait images (setting the longest dimension to 800 pixels keeping the other dimension in proportion)?
I am using Photoshop CS5 v12.0.4x32 and Windows XP Pro SP3.
if I have a portrait photo and want to change it to a landscape photo. I used resize to change the the dimensions of the photo but the results make the photo a bit distored.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to figure out a way to automatically crop a photo to say 4x6 INDEPENDENT of whether it is landscape or portrait while running a batch script. This is after I have done all my editing on the file (the first thing being that I turn the portraits the correct way).
I can sort (using windows) the file size and that tells me which are portraits and which are landscapes. I then create two directories, move the files to the appropriate directory and then run the crop script (making sure the horizontal and vertical crop dimensions are set correctly). This is a pain and wanted to see if there is some way to automate it without having to parse the files into two directories to start.
I am trying to change a landscape 4x6 photo to a portrait 4x6 using compose in ps element 12 and it doesn't seem to work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to have a dynamic block with text which, when inserted into a drawing, will show the text orientation matched to the layout? I have a non-dynamic block which is simply a donut and a piece of text. When I insert it into a drawing, the text orientation will change to suit the orientation of the layout. I created another block with the same entities but I also added a couple of lines extending out from the center of the donut. I added stretch and rotation actions in order to rotate and stretch the lines. I also gave the block visibility states so that either one or two lines would appear (the block is a utility pole,by the way, with the lines representing guy wires). When I insert the dynamic block into a drawing, I cannot get the text to match the orientation of the viewport. I've tried changing different combinations of settings but the text won't appear horizontal.
The two blocks I mentioned above are inserted into one file with a number of other blocks. When I check the properties of the non-dynamic block, the "match orientation" is set to YES. I cannot, however, change the "match to orientation" setting to YES on the dynamic block. Is this simply because it is a dynamic block or am I missing something? I don't create a lot of dynamic blocks and therefore I am not a wizard at it so I am assuming I am doing something wrong.
Can gimp change the picture from landscape to portrait. Like when u rotate the camera 90 degrees while snapping the picture. Tried all kinds of options/preference in gimp but printer (hpc6280) just will not rotate a 4x6 print. I believe it works with 11.8.5 paper (not sure).

I'm trying to print a landscape image but the image is reduced when printed. I open a new A4 sized template and make my image but when it comes time to print the image is smaller on the page than A4. Is there an easy solution to this? I have messed around with orientation both in GIMP and my printer settings, I have used the printers' "fit to page" setting and tried everything I can think of.

For example, I just took a shot with one of my cameras where I was holding the camera in a vertical (portrait) orientation. But when I transfer the .JPG to my PeeCee and view it with gimp (or ImageMagick)it is laying over on its sid, in landscape orientation.
To fix this, should I be using Tools->Transform Tools->Rotate or is there a better way? (Actually, I did try doing it that way using gimp, and the results were distinctly unacceptable... some parts of the image got cropped out, and some new transparent parts were added.)
I did try googling around for gimp and"orientation" and/or gimp and "rotate" but didn't find anything enlightening. I also checked the Gimp FAQ and again came up empty.
I don't know if this is just a Windows 8 compatibility issue, but when I save an edited photo it is stored in whatever orientation I opened it. Also the thumbnails only show the original imported image, not the edited image.
For instance if I took a picture in a sideways orientation on my smart phone then opened it in PPX5 I can rotate, edit and save and it will show the original image in a sideways orientation. If I post the image on Facebook it will show up sideways. If I put it on a forum it may look okay but people with iPads and iPhones see it sideways.
I have written a few words and created also a transparent background (I think...)
What I would like to do now is to place a photo as a background to the text I already have. Is that possible or do I have to start with the photo?
I added text to a new layer on a photo, I was able to adjust the angle to fit what I wanted but I am unable to move the text to where I want it on the photo. I would expect that there would be a select tool so that I could select objects and move them around but all I find is tools to paint with and such. Surely there is a way to move a text box around.
View 2 Replies View Relatedwhile trying to type a text in Greek language on a photo. I have to tell you that i have done in the past many times this job (type Greek letters on a photo for watermarks etc) with the same program and the same computer until two days ago!
I checked the input method, i resetted the values inside the options from gimp preferences , i uninstalled the program twice and reinstalled it, i removed all the app Data for the specific software but still doesn't work. When i try to type Greek letters , i get strange symbols that i cannot paste here! It pastes normally the characters that i wrote on. I use gimp 2.8.3 and my OS is Mac OS Lion 10.7.4
I'm trying to label parts of an engine photo with the text feature in GIMP. However, after I have typed my text and press enter or escape, it always leaves a yellow and black hyphenated rectangular frame around the text. How do I get rid of this frame so that only the text will be left?

So what happen is that some times the text is hard to read when it come on top of dark places of the photo (for example hear of people). So i want to adapt the photo to make it more unicolor, more whiten (increase whiteness) so the black text will appear even better.

About a week ago my text suddenly defaults to vertical eveytime I start to enter text.. just aggrivating, I have to start typing text, then go up and click on the change text orientation button each time. I can't figure out how to change the orientation back to a default of horzontal.

In the screenshots below, I wanted to mirror the drawing but still I need to have the “text” to the left of the mirrored objects with the same settings and orientation.

How do I make my text curved on the bottom and flat on top? I have used the fit to path feature for the bottom curve, but I need the top of the word to stay flat.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince it's a snow day here I have some time to work on some office stuff. I've created my new template now I want to update my blocks. Because I have to place blocks that show a direction for operation I have created 4 blocks of the same symbol-up, down, left, right. I do this because these blocks have text with them that needs to be orientated to the layout (otherwise I get a nasty letter back from the fire marshal). Now for the text that is constant I just use a annotative text style and have the text match the layout but the text that is an attribute I'm not sure if that can be annotative and match the layout as well.
