GIMP :: Image Split Into Strips About 1/4 Inch Wide
Feb 25, 2011
What I need to do is, take an image, split it into strips about 1/4 inch wide but have them so I can put them back.the actual size of the slices can be varied but each slice has to be the same size across the whole image.
I have got a logo that is 451 x197. It has a resolution of 72 px. I am trying to increase the resolution so that I can use the image for business cards and letterhead.
I need for the image to have a width of about 2500 pixels. If I scale the image to 2500 pixels the edges look pixelized or blurry.
My question is: Is there a way that I can make the 471 px logo stretch to 2500 px and still have sharp edges?
I have an image that is quite small, cropped from a larger image. I want to enlarge it to 317 mm wide keeping it in proportion.
Using the scaling tool I changed to mm and increased width to 317mm this leaves me with a 'window' into the top corner of the image.
I then used 'fit canvas to layers' and the canvas increases in size ok but it is empty (little grey squares) except for the top corner showing the small window into the image!
If I click on it with the resize tool I can see the whole image enlarged but as soon as i click on the 'scale' button it vanishes again and leaves the small window again?
I was working on an image, it was quite big, 7000 px wide, 6000 tall but only 5 quite simple layers, the .xcf is 7.8MB.
All of a sudden after pasting from another .xcf file (which I had just10+ times with no similar result) I moved the pasted part, the image was pretty much finished and I went up to click file>export and everything between "open recent" and "quit" in the file menu was grey.No chance to save or export and it appears half an hour of work lost.It was as if the file menu didn't think I had a file open, but if I scrolled across to the filters menu for example, they were available for selection which they are not when you have no image open. I could edit the image and change layer visibilities and do what I wanted to the image - except save it. I had flash backs to darker days of shareware version of lesser softer titles on proprietary systems. In a moment of frustration I hit the little "x" to resign for the night and it warned me to save before closing.. I hit save as the only option was to overwrite a file I didn't really want to overwrite but I did and then wrote this.
It's 2.8.6 running on an up to date ubuntu 13.10 on a high end PC.
I have created a pressure network using 8-inch diameter pipes. How would I change the 8-inch pipes to 6-inch pipes without having to recreate the network.
Someone would like a small 1 inch by 1 inch logo for invoices at 600 DPI. However I understand that illustrator doesnt work in DPI or PPI since it's vector. Would I have to transfer the small image over to photoshop. I did try and save a 1 inch by 1 inch logo at 600 PPI, however when I saved the image it was no longer 1 inch by 1 inch. It had increased significantly in size regardless of what file format I saved the image as.
I have a wide background image for the top of a site I am working on, which I am attaching. Basically, the original creator of the image faded the gradient from transparent to the background color of the site. The "shape" of the gradient is where I am having trouble. I tried even using the circle selection tool, then doing an inverted selection to force an oval shape, but that is not working great for me either.
I'm trying to create 1 pixel wide borders for some web buttons. I've tried to use the GIMP path tool to do this but I can't figure out how to get it looking right. See attached image.
1 - copied from a button I found on a web-page. This is what I want - single pixel horizontal and vertical lines with feathering on the curved bits.
2 - path that I used to generate the images on the right.
3 - 'Stroke Path' with 1px brush size & no antialiasing. Corners are not smooth.
4 - 'Stroke Path' with 1px brush size & anti-aliasing. Straight lines are too fuzzy as they are 2 pixel wide rather than 1.
Is there a way to do this with the path tool or any other way with the GIMP?
If I try to draw a square box in any size, illustator does not make it square. Â For example, if I select the Rectangle Tool, click in the art space and set the rectangle to one inch by one inch, I get a box that is 1.0003 by 1.0003 Â Here is a screen shot of what I am getting. Â This is also happening to any rectangle and circle. Â Even if I hold down shift to keep the preportions lock, it still happens. Â I have check and nothing is snapping or set to snap. Â This is a major issue for me as I use illustator for creating dielines and those dielines need to be very accurate.
CS3 / XP Home. I am trying to print a 7 by 10 in image using my old Canon BJ200 printer. On Page Setup the right margin always default to 2.5 in,despite repeatly input to defferent numbers. I've lowered the image to 300dpi with no effect on print setting. What can I do?
After cropping a photo in cs4 i have tried hitting the return key as well as edit/crop and then my photo disappears and the image box reduces in size to about 1 inch square with no image. I have expanded the image box but nil photo. This has never happened before.
I reloaded cs4 onto my computer but the problem still exists. I have also tried out opening the file from Bridge as well as Photoshop with the same result.
I just loaded Gimp 2.8 from 'ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp' with the idea of using the 'all-in-one' new arrangement. I am using Mint 13 Maya and the new gimp interface is not yet in the repository.
That said, having opened the 'new' gimp I see the docks arrangement is a bit different. Whereas there used to be two docks one on either side of the drawing area, now the right hand dock is split screen.
The problem is that just for say the colour wheel it uses loads of screen space. I know I can toggle between 'all-in-one' and multi-mode but they both have a split screen for the docks on the right.
I don't see any obvious way to move the colour wheel dock back to where it has been under the toolbox and brushes docks.
Maybe this is a fixed arrangement in 2.8, if so I will have to go back to my Mint 13 native version.
I've been putting together some tutorials for photographic retouching in GIMP, and have recently completed what I think might be useful to other GIMPers to know about: Luminosity Masks.
The basic premise is to use masks based on the luminosity of an image to restrict layer modifications to certain tonal values (only adjust light tones, or dark tones, or mid tones for instance).
Many people point to the Luminosity Masks tutorial by Tony Kuyper, so I put this together to show the same workflow for GIMP (there's also a short tutorial on using the masks for doing split toning in images).
In Photoshop CS6, when you save an open file to .psd, .tif, or .jpg, whatever metadata it contains is saved with the file, and you can examine it in Bridge. But when you save to .png, the metadata panel in Bridge is empty — there’s nothing there..Is this a bug or a feature?
2 days on GIMP. I need to adjust the clone tool so it's 1080 pixels vertical and about 20 pixels wide. I googled and searched, but I can't seem to find the right phrasing.
The photograph I am working on has both a Kodak Grey Scale and a Colour strip attached, however the values as they appear on screen are not correct. How can I correct the colour profile to match the Kodak standard?
I made all my polygons with the same technique but somehow interactive polygon split tool does not split all polygons... I attached a file with which I have problem. Split tool just "disappears" after submitting changes...Â
I need distributing horizontal strips of images into a 720x480 canvas. The images vary in heights and constant in width= 720 pixels. For example, i get a set of 17 horizontal strips. 10 strips with height of 8 pixels each, and 7 strips with height of 13 pixels each. Â I need to figure out a math formula that will give me the spacing in between these horizontal strips that would allow me to put them evenly onto a 720x480 canvas. Â they can not overlap.
need photoshop to split image to two parts and paste the second to the bottom of first in photoshop and need macro for this as i need to do for 1000 pages.
I would like to take face pictures and split the faces in half. After that, I would like to use the left side of the face and match it to the reverse left side face together(having 2 left sides which will look like a normal face after the 2 sides will be brought together).
So:
1. picture of a human face (head)
2. slipt the face in half
3. remove the right side
4. highlight the left side and make a reverse image
5. put together the real left side and the reverse left side in one face
I'm sure I've seen how to do this somewhere, not sure if it's photoshop or flash. I want to split a picture into multiple small jpeg tiles so that I can have one thumbnail picture and a higher res one used to zoom.
Anyone know what this is called, the package used to achieve it or where I should start?
What is the optimal number of dpi/inch or dpi/cm to work and to plot a 3m x 0.8m paper /photo paper/ orapaper , RGB or CMYK, are there plotters optimizeds to plot from RGB better CMYK ?
A very similar problem as discussed, but not solved before:[URL]...Planar 26-inch Wide gamut LCD, Eye One Display 2 and latest Lightroom. Just upgraded to Win7 64bit and kaboom. After hardware calibration and profiling all colors in Windows looks great but pictures from my camera (GF2) look dull in LR and don't match what I see when save for Web and look through the web.
Same images opened on calibrated XP machine looks fine, all colors are as expected. If I don't use hardware calibration on Win7 machine and just tweak the sliders in control panel->color management the colors look somewhat off but not dull and consistent and behave as I expect and used to. I've tried both ColorEyes DisplayPro and i1 Match programs in simple and advance modes with the similar (bad) results.
When I try to use "Auto" correction in the new Adaptive Wide Angle filter, it pops up with "No matching lens profile found". I searched for information and was directed to go to the Lens Correction filter. I pressed the "Search Online" button. The first time it comes back with "Connection timeout", but the second time it says "No online profiles found". Come on, really?! Â ACR has my lens profile (Canon 24-105 f/4 IS), why can't PS CS6 find it? Is there a workaround? I'd really like to use the Adaptive Wide Angle filter.
My project is NOT wide-screen. So I go to Settings and undo wide-screen. Everything is now fine. But, the next time I start up VS Pro X4, I find it has reset itself to wide-screen. Must I undo this each time I start up. I can't find anything in preferences that will keep it at my project setting.
