The brush dynamics matrix is all greyed out and there is no way to activate it. Maybe Im doing something wrong. I understand that you can either set the brush dynamics preset or set the matrix. Also the curve editor doesnt seem to be working either.
View 11 RepliesI've been trying to alter the exposure of a picture in UFraw - a CR2 Raw image - and then open it up in Gimp so that I can experiment with HDR, trouble is I get the above message each time I try. Not sure if I'm missing a plugin or filter.
Also, is there a way to make the brush Dynamics default so that it is set to "Dynamics Off." Each time I fire up Gimp the Dynamics have reset to Basic Dynamics even if I select the tool options, under Preferences, and set them to save on exit or save now.
I've been playing around with the pen tool and i was wondering whether there was a way of altering the brush dynamics so that when i stroke the path it produces a tapered effect i.e. so that the path starts as a point, grows thicker towards the middle, then tapers back to a point?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just received the wacom intuos 4 and find that the pressure sensitivity with CS4 no longer works I have gone into brush presets shape dynamics and set the first option to pen pressure but the shape of the brush does not show any change (eg tapering at the ends) Is there a special setting that must be used to activate the pen pressure effect with CS4. I never had to do tis previously.

I am trying to get a pen stroke that starts out thin...gets normal size in the middle...and then shrinks back down to a thin line at the end.
In brush dynamics... I am able to get a thin ending on a stroke but not a thin beginning. Im using the size jitter control set to fade at 300 to get a line that fades to thin OK at the end...but I cant make the beginning thin!

I use modified versions of the standard round brush for my art. And just a few days ago when I started up photoshop, my transfer and shape dynamics tools were not working. I can tick them on and off, edit the sliders and such but it doesn't effect the brush like it should.
I tried re-booting the brushes and resetting the painting workspace but it didn't make a difference. I then uninstalled photoshop under the impression that if I re-installed it, it would load up photoshop with factory settings. But it just re-loaded the broken version I thought I had deleted and it has no icon now.
the Color Dynamics for my Brush Presets is Locked, how do I unlock it so I can use COLOR for my paintbrush, right now it is only painting in white!

Most of the objects have a Matrix which is going to store the objects rotations, flips, etc.
Many objects that I see appear to have a translation that takes it to somewhere around 7,000 - 9,000, but it's not constant.
What is this matrix in relation to?
From what point is it translated from?
When I set the matrix to the "identity" matrix, all the items are flipped upside down. Why?
I am having trouble with my tools in gimp. When I try to use the brush tool it says "no paint dynamics available with this tool".

I seem to be unable to customize the pressure dynamics. All options in the mapping matrix are grey, and I can't do anything about the curves. I've tried copying the tool presets and changing my copies instead, but the only menu that becomes non-grey is the one with options like "Apply stored FG/BG", and changing options there doesn't unlock the mapping matrix. This morning I was trying to get the color dynamics to work with the paint brushes. It seems that in 2.8 the "Color to Gradient" dynamics tool was taken out. (However, in the dynamics there are many cool options to choose from, just not gradient.) So getting frustrated, I searched the web after someone mentioned the "Color to Gradient" dynamics and I found this tutorial on creating a "Color to Gradient" dynamics from the dynamics editor.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using -color-matrix on a bunch of images to change colour temperature slightly:
convert -quality 94 -color-matrix "1.0 0 0 0 0.975 0 0 0 0.95" x.jpg y.jpg
Problem is, in sky areas, this causes patchy colours and banding issues. However, and this is the strange part, if I convert to TIFF (even using JPEG compression), and then apply the colour matrix, I don't get these issues.
BUT, even wierder, if I then try to convert the fine-looking TIFF image to JPEG again (even with -quality 100), I get these patchy colours again.
This is with GIMP 2.6.12 on a Fedora Linux system.
I'm using P&GD2013. I draw with a wacom tablet and use the freehand brush tool in sketch mode with pressure enabled. I want to edit the properties of the brush . The help pages are quite clear except that I can't access the dialog box because the 'edit brush' button is greyed out.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using a tablet with gimp and I want to be able to set the brush size for the paint brush and also for the eraser, separately. What happens now is that I'll set the paintbrush size to 10px, paint for a little while, turn the pen over to erase and the eraser will now be at 10px. So I'll adjust the eraser size to something like 50px, erase, turn over, and now the paintbrush is at 50px. Grrrrrrr... I tried creating new brushes for both the paintbrush and the eraser, but there's no brush size option. This is my first time using gimp so I'm probably missing something.

I recently blew away my Ubuntu 10.10 and installed 11.04. Not liking Unity, I figured I would try Gnome 3. After getting Gnome 3 set up, I downloaded babl,gegl, and gimp tarballs and proceeded to install all sorts of dependencies(required and many optional ones) via apt-get packages.
I then compiled babl(0.1.4), gegl(0.1.6), glib(2.29.8) gtk+(2.24.5) and finally gimp 2.7.3(note that all the above are from the gimp.org ftp site. Prior to compiling gtk+, gimp failed on the make with some really strange errors, which is why I compiled my own copy. Also note, ALL of the above were compile into a different prefix with :
./configure --prefix=/home/joefrazierjr/opt
Once I finally got GIMP compiled, I can see my tablet in the input devices, but they are greyed out along with all of the below:
SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad
Virtual core XTEST Pointer
Wacom Bamboo Fun 6x8 cursor
Wacom Bamboo Fun 6x8 eraser
Wacom Bamboo Fun 6x8 pad
Wacom Bamboo Fun 6x8 stylus
The ONLY thing that is NOT greyed out is Core Pointer.
The main reason I complied is because for whatever reason,the PPA package available does not also install Python(but does let the tablet work).
Note that I am comfortable with "using" the shell, but am a power user in linux, so assume that I know nothing about linux in any replies. Also, if I need to remove, any of the compiled code and recompile, I assume running "make clean"will fix it up correctly?
Note, my Bamboo Fun works fine in MyPaint(with pressure sensitivity,etc), so the issue is with either GIMP compile itself or GTK appsin general(If MyPaint is GTK or not). Also, I still have the build folders, so if I need to link to any of the config.log files, I will put on my dropbox.
i just started using gimp on ubuntu 13.10 . almost half of the menu items are greyed out. most of the filters work or ar not greyed out, g'mic is greyed out and so is most of the stuff in the file menu (export, save, save as, etc.) . i already tried re-installing gimp from the software center with no prevail. this is how it was the first time i installed it on this new ubuntu 13.10 .
is there something that i can do to maybe refresh the entire gimp folder maybe? maybe delete it then re-install gimp. i really dont know if this would fix anything though.
this is really irritating. and no its not the "image RGB/indexed mode" problem.
im pretty sure i dont have anything installed (like some weird ubuntu restricted access fake file) that could interfere with the interface at all as this is a pretty fresh installation. the most i have installed that might even be close to interfering with the interface is "pipelight" which is for flash and silverlight, not gimp.
i even tried different color profiles and none of them work. i even downloaded the brand new color profiles from adobe. none of those work either.
the only way i got ALL of the menu options back, including g'mic, was opening gimp through raw therapee (basically adobe lightroom for ubuntu) which might be of some use in finding an answer to this?
i already have everything i need installed including the ubuntu restricted access extras and such.i just would like gimp to open normally with all the normal file menu options enabled like everyone elses and not be all greyed out ..
I cannot get the tapered brush effect when I check the Shape Dynamics box.
Usually it automatically tapers the brush, but it just is staying round.

Even when selecting a default brush my brush stroke is not at all similar to the shape (slowly widening and then tapering off 'ie default preset') even when shape dynamics is turned on, as you can see in the photo. I'm certain it's not due to my tablet, as the sensitivity works fine in other programs. I am currently using CS5.

I have one of the wet media brushes selected as i should but these items remain grayed out.

When attempting to apply a Smoke Dynamic to a piece of geometry I am getting an error about missing a spritesmoke.mel.
