I have a logo that i need to edit. I need to adjust the name in the same font and the remove some text from it. While maintaining the look of it. How do i go about doing that.
View 8 RepliesI've been trying the new 2.8 version of Gimp and find I don't like it. Is there a way to disable some of the new features. For example I don't like the use of group layers. I've gotten used to just seeing all of my layers in a single list and being able to move each one independantly if necessary. Is there a way to disable this feature? Second, I really don't like the need to "export" just because I need to change the file type. I'd rather just save in the file name I need it to be in as it has been done in past versions, this ads extra steps for simply saving a file. Can this also be a disabled feature so that I only have to click save and tell gimp what file to save it as? Third I don't like that the text box shows the font, size etc when on the workspace. It gets in the way when I'm trying to adjust the location of the text. I rather it just have the box and control the font size,color etc from the tool box. Is this a feature that can be disabled as well? In otherwords is it at all possible to revert those features to what it was in 2.6 as far as UI. If not I think I'll have to reinstall 2.6 until I have no choice but to update it and just live with these features despite the fact that they actually make what I do problematic.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a text layer with width given at its creation. When I later open text editor and enter some wider text, it is wrapped to second line. So I would like to enhance the width of the layer to prevent this. When I add width to the layer using "Layer Boundary Size" menu item, text layer gets converted into standard bitmap layer . I don't understand the logic why a text layer isn't preserved on change of its size .
Is there a way how I can adjust size of text layer without its conversion to a bitmap?
Gimp 2.6.8 on Linux openSUSE 11.3
I need to extract text and font from a text layer. No problem, I thought, with gimp-text-layer-get-text and gimp-text-layer-get-font.
But I find that the original text layer was cropped withplug-in-autocrop-layer. Nevertheless Gimp lets me edit the text with the text edit tool - after a confirmation dialog.
But I can't get the text with script-fu. Is there a way to manage it? There are many files involved.
I have this picture i with some text, its a company name and a department name. I would like to add something in the end of the department name.
So my question is - is it possible to get the font from text on the picture and write some more text with that?
I am trying to create a form with a watermark image in Publisher 2013 and the text I want to overlay on the watermark is cut from an image I screenshot, so it has a white background, making overlaying a watermark impossible. There are boxes and bubbles and other items that I really do not want to re-create so that's why I am trying to do this first, before re-creating the entire forms from scratch.
Anyway, what I want to do is A. remove all of the white from the background (even in the spaces between the e's an B's and everything; yes I know it is insane, but I like things to be perfect) and B. I would like to darken the text. Currently is is almost gray-ish and I want it to be black.
I created some text, and then immediately clicked text along path. it created some weird little pink pixely shape. if i keep clicking it it makes more. And i can't get rid of it.
It's above every layer, and it's not actually on a layer. If i hide, or even remove, every single layer it is still there. How can i delete these weird shapes that i erroneously made with the text along path tool?

I need it in 3 different colors, and 3 different fonts. So far when I try it doesn't work.
I can do the first word in one layer and open up a second layer for the next few words, but as soon as I start typing the second word, the first one becomes the color of the second word.
I just upgraded to 2.8 and when I want to add some text this tool appears on top of the text box. No matter where I move the text box it chases my text box around. It is annoying as it covers part of my image and I don't need it there. How do I turn this thing off?
Also why when I choose New Toolbox I get this super long tool pane. I resize it to what I want. Then when I close it and do it again it comes back again. Any way to set this up correctly?
Downloaded g'mic plug-in ver 1.5.6.1 just yesterday. I was looking to use "Anisotropic smoothing". It takes the rough edges off text.
Why it's not on the plug-in and or any other way to remove rough edges from text. To be used for a logo.
I'm just getting the hang of GIMP and up and running on a project, until now. For some reason, I'm not able to get the kind of selections I want from using the Path and Scissors tools. Large pieces of the letters get cut off and its frustrating to say the least. I've heard about the edge logic problems and actually found out how to use the Path tool as a result. This still happens with Scissors after I've jacked the contrast all the way up, and its already in bw.
Now the obvious fix would be to just type what I'm wanting and go from there which should be simple. BUT, I'm not quite to the point where I can build it from scratch and the font is fairly specific.
Im trying to create a logo similar to the Harley Logo for a friend's wedding. Their last name begins and ends with "S" and Im trying to replicate the "S" in the Harley Logo.
If I copy and paste the Harley "S" on the right side of "Cycles".. it's a no brainer. If I copy and paste the "s" in Cycles and try to move it to the left for the first letter in their last name.. I can't seem to bend it the right way so the bottom of the S follows the curvature of the shield like the other one..
I have recently upgraded to Gimp 2.8.3 on my Mac OS Snow Leopard, primarily for the new "export to PDF" feature that would keep text searchable within PDF.
The results are very odd... The text in the exported PDF is, indeed, searchable and copyable, but the font size shrinks drastically (see attached screenshot).
I just installed GIMP. My experience is with office suites, like WordPerfect and Sun Open Office.

I need to edit a GIF image file. I have it loaded and converted to RGB. I cannot find anything on any menu about edit a GIF file. It is basically a horizontal rectangle with text on the left and a color on the right, and I just need to replace the text and change the font, without disturbing anything else. It needs to "fit" back into a webpage afterwards. As far as I can see, there is only one layer, if that makes any difference.
Any way to set the character leading setting so that it auto-adjusts when you adjust font size? I think my Ps used to do that. Now, whenever I change font size, I have to adjust the leading, too.

The stage size you see above is H: 400px, W: 550px.
I would like for the stage to be smaller, say H:50px./W:400px
Ok so if I change the size of the stage the animation text will not show, so I need to adjust the position of the text in order for the animation text to be visible, but in doing that, I am disrupting the timeline and the animation goes all funny, is there another way of doing this without disrputing the timeline?
I have figured out how to turn on pen sensitivity. I use Gimp at work on a Mac, and at home on a PC. I teach HS art, and we've been using Gimp exclusively in our computer graphics classes for the last year, and plan to continue with it in the future.
The issue I'm having is the poor sensitivity to pressure with Gimp. I'm using an Intuos4 tablet, and the level of sensitivity in Gimp is roughly 10-20% of what it is in Photoshop. I'm wondering if there is a way to increase/adjust the sensitivity of the pen pressure in Gimp.
I have a font (KG Party on the Rooftop) That is an outline font. I am trying to use a picture of carpet to fill the middle of the font. I tried using a clipping mask but it seems to only get a part of the font (the part that extrudes- this font was created to look 3d). When I type the font onto the carpet picture I can see the font exactly how I want it.
How do I remove the carpet background for everything but the font?
I have been playing with the Gradient Flare in the filters. There are a lot fo edit commands here which I like, but I seem to be missing one, the direction of the flare. They always seem to run from the lower left to the upper right. Is there a way to turn the flares in different directions? I have gone through all the commands and still havnt had no luck.

While I'm at it, I may as well ask another question as well. I'm used to Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8, and on there you could adjust the "step" of a brush. Is there a way to do that on GIMP?

However, where can I find the setting for how far they should appear from the picture's edge. I want to adjust the width of the bleed, which is 0 (zero) at the moment (which is completely pointless of course).
Our logo designer has gone back to turkey and the communication is a little hard. Now I tried to gimp around, but I wasn't able to recreate the same shape.

I'm still working on old family photos (it's a long-term project). This one is from my parents' wedding album, and it's an original black-and-white photo from 1952:
Maybe it's me, but I just don't like all those different gray tones, and I would love to get my mother's gown whiter (which it still is, BTW). I have tried a few things to even things out:
- Brightness/Contrast
- Threshold, Levels, Curves (I have to admit, I don't know what I'm doing with these; it's sort of hit-or-miss)
- Auto adjustments
- Fuzzy select to try to get the darker pieces more like the lighter ones, but the adjustments I just listed aren't doing what I want and are hard to see anyway; I thought the Bucket tool might work but I don't know how to use the gray area I want as a fill color.
What is wrong with my GIMP? This behavior persists in every 2.6 and 2.8 build I've tried, in fact I'm pretty sure I first discovered it somewhere in 2.4 .
It's GTK bug #644032 - certain adjustments made to the Hue-Saturation tool (with overlap) may have problems handling the red/magenta wraparound properly. Which was supposed to be fixed eons ago (and with exception of this one specific usecase, it already WAS - see GTK #527085).
It originally happened while trying to adjust the color balance on a scanned image containing ambiguously red/magenta hues (yes I know we have an actual tool for Color Balance, but I've never been able to quite wrap my head around what adjustments yield which results). I have attached a sample file demonstrating expected vs. actual results with this usecase. My GIMP is clearly screwing the pooch on these adjustments ... but HOW, because even when I browse the online git repo the relevant source code looks like it should work perfectly (I've even mentally stepped through it and verified correct results, unlike my actual GIMP).
Try performing the same adjustments on your GIMP (note which build and version) - do you get the same results I do?
