GIMP :: Adjust Colour Balance On Multiple Layers At Same Time?
Dec 14, 2012Is there a way to adjust the colour balance on multiple layers at the same time?

View 2 RepliesWhat is wrong with my GIMP? This behavior persists in every 2.6 and 2.8 build I've tried, in fact I'm pretty sure I first discovered it somewhere in 2.4 .
It's GTK bug #644032 - certain adjustments made to the Hue-Saturation tool (with overlap) may have problems handling the red/magenta wraparound properly. Which was supposed to be fixed eons ago (and with exception of this one specific usecase, it already WAS - see GTK #527085).
It originally happened while trying to adjust the color balance on a scanned image containing ambiguously red/magenta hues (yes I know we have an actual tool for Color Balance, but I've never been able to quite wrap my head around what adjustments yield which results). I have attached a sample file demonstrating expected vs. actual results with this usecase. My GIMP is clearly screwing the pooch on these adjustments ... but HOW, because even when I browse the online git repo the relevant source code looks like it should work perfectly (I've even mentally stepped through it and verified correct results, unlike my actual GIMP).
Try performing the same adjustments on your GIMP (note which build and version) - do you get the same results I do?
How do I see the object selected change colour dynamically as I adjust the colour sliders?
It seems the object only changes colour when I release the slider. But I want to see it dynamically change, so I can find the colour that works best without "hit or miss" - "trial and error" behaviour.
Yes... I'm aware some of you spend hours in colour programs creating a palette to work with. Good for you.
I'm just wanting to do it LIVE. Dynamically. In 2013. In Illustrator.
Is it possible to duplicate multiple layers at one time.
I can link layers and then do Merge Linked and then duplicate it,
How do I edit multiple layers all at once, the images is phpBB forum images and they look the same at the edges but have different graphics in the middle, I want to edit the edges of the small Icons all at once.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI often color code layers in the layers panel.
In CS5 I could select several layers and change the color for all at once. Doesn't seem to work anymore in CS6.

I need to change the channels of about 10 layers at the same time, without loosing their colour relation to each other (so basically what you do with the image adjustments)...
But I need to limit it to a couple of layers in stead of the entire pic.. Ive tried adjustment layers, but they seem to applie to all the layers below them.. im probably applying it the wrong way right?
I am using Photoshop 7.0
Can I format multiple layers of text at one time?
Also, can I write in paragraph format - so lines get evenly spaced?
I have been trying to figure out if I can make capture time changes to adjust for time zone errors or the daylight saving time mistakes where the capture time in the Metadata panel is off by 1 hour or so, and then have these adjustments saved permanently to the original files (master photos). This works for JPEG files and it also works for DNG files (after converting from CR2 to DNG). But it doesn't seem to work for CR2 files directly. If I used the "Save Metadata to file" option from the Metadata menu I might just get sidecar XMP files.
Then I found this option "write date or time changes into proprietary raw files" in the Catalog Settings. This seems about right. But what does it do? I tried enabling that, created a new catalog and then imported some new CR2 files. I then changed the captured time and tried the Save Metadata to file option. It still spits out these sidecar files. It doesn't actually write this to the CR2 files.
Or does it? Perhaps I am not seeing it in Windows Explorer? Like IPTC vs. EXIF? I'm not sure Windows reads both. These are like different types or sections of metadata information about a file. So I just wonder what the benefit or consequence is of having this option enabled? Whatever it is, it is not very apparent. And as you can see from the screenshots above the capture time has not changed (not been saved) when you look at the file in Windows Explorer. Any changes are held in the XMP sidecar. Even thou I have enabled this EXIF option in Catalog Settings.
How to see all the layers in the same time , on the one screen and how to combine them ?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just want to draw some simple animations, and I was thinking of using the layers as frames, like with gif creation. I know you can use pageup and page down to quickly shift focus from one layer to the next, but is there a way to only have the current layer visible without having to mess with the visbility toggle for each layer?

I work in crop research and have written a code to analyze an RGB image and determine if a pixel is senescence, crop, residue/soil, or shadow. However, this only works if the color is balanced in an image.
I do not know what the technical definition of balanced color is, but to me it relates to the RGB curves one can see in the curves mask. Over the last 5 years a colleague of mine has taken thousands of photos that I need to analyze with my system, unfortunately some have blue hues, some are overexposed, and some are just flat.
Is there any way to apply ratios or mathematical equations to the curves panel so that all images have a similar balance that will work with the code I wrote?
(below I included a few images to give you a feel for the variance)
I like having a source and a working image.. so what I end up doing is opening the source, then creating a new image, then copy/paste the layers I want over..then sometimes scale the items, or whatever..
I cant seem to be able to pick multiple layers to copy or scale.. I can chain them and then move em all together ok.. but as for copy/paste scale.. I haven't managed to find where I can group them and copy/scale .
I'm making a .gif image but the video clip frames I imported have an undesirable rectangle at the very end (it's just starting to fade in). So I'm trying to go frame by frame and edit each layer individually to erase the rectangle. I only have a handfull of frames to edit and then I should be good to go but figuring out how to switch to editing other layers has proven difficult. So far if I turn off the top layers when I try and edit the underlying layers it only draws on the top layer. I didn't want to move any of the layers since that would be much harder than just editing them where they already are.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there any way that I can copy multiple layers?
If I hit copy and then paste it as a new image I only get the layer I had selected.
If I merge all the layers down to one, it takes a long time because I have to merge them one at a time. Then I have to undo all those merges to the original so I can still work with its layers, just to make a copy of the image I am working on.
And sometimes I want to copy layers from an image and actually keep them as layers in whatever it is I'm copying them to, and in that case my best option to to select each layer one at a time, copy it and paste it as a new layer in the other image. And this method doesn't always leave the layers lined up properly.
So, Is there any way that I can copy multiple layers?
I've been working on learning Blender and using Gimp to edit textures and the like. I'd really like to be able to create tilaable textures and then clone them onto UV maps (the main cutout of a 3d model.
However, One thing I want is to be able to clone the normal map and the specular along with the UV texture map. This would involve cloning from 3 layers simultaneously in one gimp file to 3 new layers in another gimp file. Is it possible to do this at all in Gimp? It's important that the UV, Normal, and Specular maps match precisely in the new image.
I have been trying out gimp and i'm getting the hang of the basics but what i would like to know is how can i scroll multiple layers on the same image,
i have been using the 'move path' function and i can get one layer to scroll but how do i add more layers to the image? i want one text layer to scroll horizontally and then another different text layer to scroll vertically but at the moment i only get one or the other.
In Inkscape, you can select multiple objects by simply using the Selecttool and putting a box around the objects. I unwittingly did the samething in Gimp. I chose the Select tool (R) and selected several images inone column. I thought, that I would see all the boxed-in layers selectedfor easy duplication, but nope.
So how can I quickly/easily select a box-full of layers at once, a laInkscape?
How do I edit multiple layers or frames?
I am working on a GIF and I want to change the brightness, saturation settings etc but it seems that I have to edit the frames one by one, which is extremely tedious. Is there a faster way to do this?
I have scoured the net for any Script-Fu or Batch to do this, and only find old code that is no longer good for gimp 2.6. For some absolutely insane reason (as far as I am concerned), gimp has failed time and time again (since their inception) to actually make it available to export multiple images at the same time. I literally have 300 layers, and for me to crop them all and save them as images would take an entire day.
Why hasn't this been made available? Is there any code or anything I can use to accomplish this task in Gimp 2.6? Photoshop allows it, and has since its inception! Why not Gimp? Is it that difficult to create? Are there really no plugins to do this?
How can I select multiple layers easily? method of putting a selection box around them, but that didn't work) BTW, I'm using GIMP 2.6.12 (on Linux Mint)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using CS6 and the Replace Colour Tool no longer allows me to replace multiple colours when I select the + . So when I have the panel open and I highlight the +, I used to then be able to click on several spots in my image and all of the colours that are in those spots are added to the selected colours that will be changed by using the sliders.
But now, when I use the + it has exactly the same effect as not using it - I can only choose one colour or an other, I can't add.....I want to reset this to the original way that this works.
Currently I have to open the panel, change one variation of a colour, save it, then re-open the panel and do it again (and again and again) until all the colour variations I am trying to remove are are changed. I know I also have the 'fuzziness' slider, but it does not give enough control.

Using GIMP 2.6.11 under Windows XP
Is this real? I am really amazed that there is no way to do this. Am I missing something? I have multiple images, each with a unique background layer. On top are multiple other layers, both images and text layers. I was editing one and was about to save it but then realized it was on the wrong background.
All I want to do is select four or five layers from this unsaved image with Background A, copy them and then open an image with Background B and paste them in so there will be minimal issues with alignments and such. I have been editing each of these four layers and there are a fair bit of changes that have been made to just throw them away and start over. The background is not the only difference between the images, it is just what I use as a reference so copying that over to the unsaved image would also require multiple layer copy/pasting.
I have already tried linking the layers but any copy/cut/paste seems to only work on the active layer, unless I am again missing something. This seems like a really fundamental function to not be supported.
I was working on a drawing, I had multiple Layers, and was working with grouping to keep it organized. Well my computer was freezing up and I had to restart Gimp, I thought I'd only be loosing a few minutes of work cause I had saved VERY recently. I re opened Gimp and suddenly...I can only see the group I was working with. The latest work is there but all my other layers are gone... It was saved as an xcf file
