Photoshop :: Normal / Full Size Brush Tips??
Apr 30, 2008I'm confused by these two brush tips. I have CS2 and in the Edit / Preferences / Display & Cursors there is the Normal Brush Tip and the Full Size Brush Tip. The Normal shows that the cursor corresponds to about 100%of the area it draws; the Full Size shows that it is bigger than the area it draws.
Two questions:-
1. What is the use for this latter cursor?
2. Why does it say in the User Guide and the Help that the Normal "corresponds to approximately 50% of the area that the tool will affect" and the Full Size "corresponds to nearly 100% of the area that the tool will affect"?
Mighty puzzling, although it has already been acknowledged that the User Guides are poor. Is this an example or am I missing something?
Photoshop :: Using Control Option To Adjust Brush Size And Feather?
Feb 21, 2012I saw this cool shortcut for adjusting brush size and feather by holding control option and then dragging left right or up down to adjust the brush but in the video when he clicked and dragged to adjust the brush displayed red while being adjusted and I can't seem to get the red rubylith to display so I can't see the brush feathering when adjusted.

Sep 22, 2011I'm trying to figure out how you can adjust the exact hardness of a brush. I see that you can select a brush with a hard edge, or a fuzzy edge, but what if I'd like some middle ground?
While I'm at it, I may as well ask another question as well. I'm used to Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8, and on there you could adjust the "step" of a brush. Is there a way to do that on GIMP?
Also, is there a shape tool where you can create spheres or squares?
GIMP :: Set Brush Size For Paint Brush And Eraser Separately?
Jul 5, 2012I'm using a tablet with gimp and I want to be able to set the brush size for the paint brush and also for the eraser, separately. What happens now is that I'll set the paintbrush size to 10px, paint for a little while, turn the pen over to erase and the eraser will now be at 10px. So I'll adjust the eraser size to something like 50px, erase, turn over, and now the paintbrush is at 50px. Grrrrrrr... I tried creating new brushes for both the paintbrush and the eraser, but there's no brush size option. This is my first time using gimp so I'm probably missing something.

Oct 31, 2012Our logo designer has gone back to turkey and the communication is a little hard. Now I tried to gimp around, but I wasn't able to recreate the same shape.

GIMP :: Adjust Size Of Text Layer Without Its Conversion To A Bitmap?
Mar 27, 2012I have a text layer with width given at its creation. When I later open text editor and enter some wider text, it is wrapped to second line. So I would like to enhance the width of the layer to prevent this. When I add width to the layer using "Layer Boundary Size" menu item, text layer gets converted into standard bitmap layer . I don't understand the logic why a text layer isn't preserved on change of its size .
Is there a way how I can adjust size of text layer without its conversion to a bitmap?
GIMP :: How To Save Brush Size
Sep 7, 2013I am having a bit of trouble with brush sizes compared to when I used photoshop. Using photoshop I could just click on a new brush size and shape as I was drawing. In GIMP it looks like one has to manipulate the size every time. And if you're to say use the eraser tool, it has to be manipulated to a desired size and then all over again to go back to drawing. Is there a way to save brush sizes and then just merely click to continue on?

Aug 30, 2013Well i've, been a gimp user since quite a time now, and always loved it over photostop for doing all my work except for the one i love most, and thats digital painting. My problem is the scaling of the brushes, ive tried everthing but at the end i don't feel satisfied with the behavior of how gimp scales the brushes pixel per pixel at time, its very slow working on large canvas, i know there's the scale more shortcut but its not quite precise and swapping between the normal scale shortcut with the scale more is a pain in the ass, at least for me because i barely use the keyboard so i rely heavily on my intuos 4 medium tablet using the touch ring for scaling, so my questions are:
theres no way to have a similar brush scale behavior similar to the one in photoshop ? like it doesnt matter if im very zoomed in or very zoomed out, the brush scales fast and precise
I dont remember where i read about this other shortcut called increase brush size relative, that is like a more precise way to scale the brush size but my problem is why it does nothing after assigning a key to it ? well it does, on the bottom where zoom percentage is located,to the right ive seen that it shows the selected tool, and when i click the assigned key to the command i said before it shows Brush Angel 0.00. why? im not trying to rotate the brush im trying to scale it, maybe is a bug i dont know.

When I use photoshop with my tablet I can use my secondary of my pen button to quickly change size. But in gimp for mac it's a nightmare (secondary button doesn't acces brush settings) to change quickly brush sizes. Specially as a painter.
Is there any shortcut for gimp (MAC) ?
GIMP :: Brush Size Between Tools
Jun 13, 2012I'm having an issue when I go back and forth between my paint brush tool and my eraser tool. Ever since I got 2.8 installed, the brush size is the same for all tools. When I had 2.6, if I was working with my paint brush and had it at a small brush size, then turned my pen over to the eraser and I would have that tool's brush size to be much bigger. I wouldn't have to keep on adjusting the size every time I flipped my pen. Ever since I got 2.8, I've had to keep on adjusting the brush size because the brush size stays the same, and doens't stay set for each tool. I'm using windows 7, am using an intous4 tablet and pen, had installed the latest wacom update, the latest gimp obviously with what I believe to be the binary and source code.

GIMP :: Unable To Configure Mouse Wheel To Change Brush Size
Jun 4, 2011I need to do some shading work in Gimp, and for this it would be very nice to have a quick way to change my brush size. Luckily there's a note in the gimp docs on how to program the mouse wheel to do this:

My laptop only has a touchpad with a little scroll area on the side, but I can't think of a good reason why this should be any different from a scroll wheel on a real mouse. Unfortunately, though, following the documentation doesn't work.
In fact, as far as I can tell, the input controllers dialog does nothing at all on my system--I've looked at the settings for the all of the 'active controllers,' and none of the current settings there match with the actual behavior of Gimp as far as I can tell. It also worries me that the controller names are so generic--they're listed as 'Main Keyboard' and 'Main Mouse Wheel' rather than mentioning a synaptics touchpad, and my tablet doesn't even seem to be listed.
I am using Gimp 2.6.11 on Ubuntu.
Photoshop :: Brush Lag After Every 4 Or So Normal Strokes In CS6
Jun 14, 2012I was getting brush lag for a few days after installing CS6. every 4 or so normal brush strokes, the brush would start to lag. And after a few lagging strokes it would go back to normal and then repeat itself.
The first thing I did was delete the work spaces that I never use (I doubt that fixed the problem).
Second thing I did was turn the cache levels to 1 and set image previews to "never save" (found this tip online, didn't fix the lag problem but I still kept those settings anyway).
The third thing (and what I believe fixed the problem) was going to "performance" in Photoshop, clicking on the advanced settings for your graphics processor and turning the drawing mode from advanced to basic.
I never had to do this on cs4 which is why it took a few days of tinkering around to fix the problem.

Dec 21, 2012I get artifacts when I lighten (dark specks) or darken (white specks) when I use the adjustment brush to adjust exposure on my photos. It would seem to be a big enough bug to get noticed and promptly fixed, unless I am doing something wrong.
