URL...I use the fill tool next to an already established color and it does this blending, I'm assuming it's a simple fix or just user error somewhere, but how to fix?
(In case it's important the Gray color was made using the Free Select Tool and Fill with FG Color command and the White was the Bucket Fill tool)
I have many scanned images of my collection and need to automate the process of rotating the image so that it is "square" and then cropping to remove unwanted background.
I have learned GIMP enough to do this manually with the rotate and crop tools but I have 1000s of images so how to automate this process.
How do you blend different images together into one smoothly? For example, in this picture.
I've tried to do that, but it always ends up awkwardly, and I can tell there has been an effect applied on this picture.
I am having a horrible time getting rid of the hard edge of the photo that I want to blend in with the gray.
Both are on separate layers, with the top layer being the photo itself.
I added a layer mask to the photo, and selected the blend tool , with the gradient set to FG to BG.
Pulling my cursor from left to right, I still cannot get rid of the harsh line without loosing the clarity of the photo.
If you open the picture and see it u see 3 dragon heads, one white, one blue and one red.
what I am trying to do is make the centre orange and let those 3 colors blend into orange.
that's why the topic name '3 colors into 1 different color'.
I tried things with the circular flashlight effect (dont know the name of the effect)
but the goal is that only the colors change and NOT the background.
I'd like to know how do you add colors to paths. I'd also know how to make one end of a path more lighter and sharper. Also I'd like to know how to sort of blend colors into a path.
View 1 Replies View RelatedBasically I've got the cut out that I want to blend into a picture, and what I do is get the images as near the centre of the canvas as I can, then copy and paste a new layer. Take the new layer and reduce it in size by say 95%, then try to centre it within the original image behind is as best I can. Select round it with the fuzzy select tool, then delete the smaller image. Move back to the original image and then add mask layer and use gradient blur to introduce a gradually fading of a few pixels round the edges.
The trouble is this method is not really good for complex shapes and often involves some iWarping to get the smaller image within the boundary of the larger one. So my question is, is there an easy way to fuzzy select round an image boundary that can introduce an arbitrarily chosen margin, say 5 or 10 pixels?
Anyway this is the kind of thing I am working on at the moment, making trippy fantasy images using dead animal's skulls.
I have multiple exposures of the same photo that I'd like to combine into one image showing the specific details of all. I've been messing around with layer modes and opacity sliders but can't quite get exactly what I want.
These are a a couple of the images I'm trying to combine:
What I'd like the final image to show is the pronounced shadow behind the railing in the first exposure and the lit up details of the hallway in the lower left corner of the second exposure, if there's a way to achieve this without having to draw layer masks and such.
In the section "5.8 Practical Uses of Blending Modes" of the book "Grokking the GIMP" (see, e.g.,URL.... there is an example of how to use blending modes to alter the colour of a cat.
Specifically, I refer to Figure 5.29(a) where the re-coloured cat does not appear to sit naturally on the person's shoulder (cf Figure 5.26(a)). How can the defect be overcome? But would the bucket fill also be feathered?
I know how to add alpha channel to each layer individually and manually but is there a way to have an alpha channel added to each new layer automatically?

How to record action for automatic repeat
i have repetitive actions i need to make on images thay all constant for example i have :
100 images with size 100X100
what i need to do on each one :
1. scale to 75x75
2. export as png ( with the same name )
3. close the original without saving
So I recently got my graphics tablet and have been playing around with it on GIMP, getting the eraser and pressure sensored stylus configured. But I'm having a weird issue- the two side buttons on my stylus already have inputs from GIMP (that being pan and image menu), regardless of what I select for it on the control panel's 'Bamboo Preferences'. I'm not sure how to change it after looking around into the programs preferences window, including 'Input Devices'. Uh, I've checked that my drivers are up to date and I have Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on a crappy laptop, if that means anything... This is really irritating me as the input GIMP determines and the ones I choose from the control panel happen simultaneously and I just want my own inputs.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a picture of a black dog which I want to merge into a black background as seamlessly as possible. I created a layer mask and blacked out the photograph area behind the dog so that the black of the layer beneath shows through. What I want to do now is somehow feather the edge between the dog and the black background to melt the two together rather than having a sharp crisp edge. Can I somehow feather the edge of my layer mask to do this quickly and easily or do I have to do it manually using the smudge tool etc?

The main problem I am having is the difficulty of getting the colors and textures right, the actual blending the face in part.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using gimp in Lubuntu 12.04 (using gimp 2.8). The Wacom attached is a Splash.
When I select a brush/color besides the default, it automatically switches to the default/black when the pen gets close enough to be detected by the tablet.
I'll come straight out and admit: yes, my real problem here is my laziness but, ignoring that, the 'problem' I have is getting so tired of and annoyed with the whole trial & error schtick that comes with saving animated gifs (scale image, save, check file size, repeat to first step until file size is finally desirable).
Two possible solutions come to mind, one I admit is probably quite unrealistic but I would think the other has a good chance of existing.
First, the unrealistic solution possibility. Is there a plugin or anything else where I can input a file size and it could calculate the exact (or close to exact) scale I would need to resize to if I want the gif to be around that file size? (i.e. "For this gif to be 879kb your best bet would (probably) be 515 x 283")
Now then, the more realistic (or at least I think it is) solution possibility. What about being able to preview a file size of an animated gif before saving? (i.e. "If you save this 400 x 226 gif it will most likely be '(insert byte size here)'kb")
I want to cut a gradient with hard edges. But gimp is anti aliasing and color blending the edges with every tools. Same happens on filling the selected area, or erasing, or deleting.
See here. The upper is the original before filling with white/deleting the selected are, the lower is the result. The edges are blended, but i don't want it to be blended!
How can i disable this behavior?
I am new to the gimp software and am struggling blending a photo into a solid color background.I cannot seem to get rid of the hard end of the photo. I have tried applying a mask then using the blending tool, but still cannot remove the line.

I just opened up GIMP and to my horror it had been changed completely without my consent.
First question: I assume this was some sort of automatic update. How do I turn that off, so that I have control over whether or not I want to update?
Second question: How do I go back to the previous version? I can't find basic functions, because they've been moved.
I was trying to do a quick project, and to learn a whole new set up. I'm appalled to find that my program's been changed without giving me any choice in the matter, and then having to sign up on a list serve to fix the problem. Why not set up a forum, where we can subscribe to just the thread that's relevant to us?
How can I do to better blend this two picture together as the orange paint is overlapping the metal grill on the door how to make the paint looks more realistic...
View 6 Replies View RelatedIt's a common practice when building layers to duplicate existing layers as a start. Additionally, it is good practice that layer names be meaningful.
Suppose I start with the following layer: layer 1
If I duplicate that layer, it seems reasonable I'd get: layer 2. Instead I get: layer 1 copy
Then if I duplicate again I get: layer 1 copy#1, even though this is copy #2.
I propose the following: An option be available whereby user is queried for name of any layer which is to be generated. This is easier than having to edit automatically generated layer names.If automatic layer names are to be generated, code first checks if previous layer name ends in a sequence of digits. If yes, then these digits are incremented as an integer until a unique layer name is generatedIf the layer name does not end in a sequence of digits, then "#1" is appended to the layer name, and the "1" incremented until a unique name is generated.
So with this algorithm:layer 1 would become layer 2 for a first copy, then layer 3 for a second copy, etc.background would become background#2 for a first copy, then background#3 for a second copy, etc.
The problem with using "copy" in the layer name is that it is probably only in the substantial minority of cases that the newly generated layer is destined to be a true copy, so the automatically generated layer name is very likely inappropriate. Better is to use a simpler, shorter name which applies in a greater fraction of the applications.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working on a .Net plugin and need to handle some events. The first one I'm playing with is the ability to prevent a block from being erased. My method for doing this was to add a handler to the database object of the current document, and look for blocks being erased and then check its name/attributes. I realize that the code is buggy and will only work for blocks - but it's currently just a proof of concept. I have hard-coded the block name, and set a check for if the attributes contain "123". It seems to work, but after I un-erase the blocks they don't redraw. I've gotten better results with calling .Draw on the object, but I still have to regen the drawing manually.

but my lack of determing the answer has stopped me from using what is obviously an excellent product: Once I use a tool to perform something, say to draw a colored line in an image, I dont know what to click on from stopping the drawing tool from having control. I can click on another tool, but what if I just want to drag the image to another part of the screen? In a previous paint tool I used, PhotoImpact I believe, there was an icon in the Tools that basically stopped whatever tool I had last selected from being in affect.

When I use Photoshop CS3 to develop the shot in RAW, as soon as I click on to the shot in bridge it instantly reverts back to the default white balance, In UK fresh waters this usually means a strong green cast.

The action i want to perform involves 3 steps: 1)channel mix to b&w, 2)stop to do curves, dodge/burn,etc. and 3)finish b&w convert w/ hue/saturation. If i insert a Stop then PS does allow me to finish the action but it stops the batch. I need to do the Hue/Sat after adjustments b/c otherwise i get a color shift. If this makes sense,

I know constructing the palette without a GUID prevents this behaviour but I'd like keep this to preserve the palette size, position, state etc given when a GUID is provided.
I had hoped I could just close / make not visible the palette just before AutoCAD exits and it wouldn't try and restore the palette upon the next AutoCAD started. I've tried doing this in the Application.BeginQuit event but the command is still called the next time AutoCAD is started.
