I have a problem docking the windows. The tool options window somehow detached itself and I just can't figure out how to dock it again.
There are a couple of very light colored lines which are used for docking. I don't see any lines on the "Tool Options" window or any other window for that matter.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Gimp 2.6.8 on Windows and, somehow, the Tool Options separated into a new window a week or so ago. I tried docking it back to the Toolbox, but nothing is working.
I googled and found that this is normally fixed by dragging Tool Options onto the Toolbox, but there is nowhere for me to do that. Is there some trick or maybe this is just a bug or something? Nothing seems to work and the separate Tool Options window is incredibly annoying.
When working in my GIMP 2.8 the default left dock had various tools at the top and Font tools at the bottom.
Somehow I changed the bottom to Airbrush tools. I tried resetting tool defaults. No luck I still have only the airbrush tools at the bottom of the left dock.
Why will dock tool option not dock back to toolbox? I am using 2.8.

View 6 Replies View RelatedThe Tool Options Palette which normally resides in one of the bars along the top of the screen in the Edit Mode becomes detached. Basically undocked and positions itself somewhere else.I can drag and move it around but I cannot reattach it. It appears like a separate tool bar or palette in that it has its own status or title line across the top with the X to close at the right edge.
It responds normally as to all of the tools on it which correspond to the specific tool selected. The palette floats on top of the screen so finding a place to put it where it will not intrude on the image or other pallets or tool bars is a challenge. When the palette becomes detached like this, the line where it had resided above the work area no longer exists.
I don't recall conducting any particular task or operation which caused this to happen. I just noticed that it was no longer in its place and was now floating in a spot on the right side of the screen.
I have installed both version 2.6.11 and also version 2.4.7 of the Windows version of Gimp that I have downloaded from here [URL]
When I launch Gimp, and select File / Open from the main menu, neither TIF/TIFF nor JPG/JPEG files are listed when "All Images" is selected in the file type drop-down listbox. If I select "All Files", and then select either a TIFF or JPEG file, then an error message appears stating "Unknown file type". The specific types listed in the file type drop down list box include:
GIMP XCF image (*.xcf)
bzip archive (*.xcf.bz2, *.bz2, *.xcfbz2)
Dexktop Link (*.desktop)
G3 fax image (*.g3)
GIF image (*.gif)
gzip archive (*.xcf.gz, *.gz, *.xcfgz)
Photoshop image (*.psd)
I have read here: [URL] that, "Some of the file types, such as JPEG and TIFF, require extra libraries (described elsewhere)." I have no idea where "elsewhere" is.
I have completely uninstalled, rebooted, and reinstalled both version 2.6.11 and 2.4.7 with the exact same results each time. The program otherwise works as advertized, with no errors or problems that I am aware of.
Am I missing something here? All indications are that GIMP (Even the Windows version) natively supports TIFF / TIF and JPEG / JPG files, but that is certainly not my experience!
I am specifically interested in opening TIFF / TIF files.
I just opened two separate projects in Revit Architecture 2014 and the Properties window and the Project Browser Window will not dock. When I double click on the top tab of each one, it will expand in width to the full width of my screen. I recently upgraded from 2013 to 2014. Is this a 2014 glitch?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just loaded Gimp 2.8 from 'ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp' with the idea of using the 'all-in-one' new arrangement. I am using Mint 13 Maya and the new gimp interface is not yet in the repository.
That said, having opened the 'new' gimp I see the docks arrangement is a bit different. Whereas there used to be two docks one on either side of the drawing area, now the right hand dock is split screen.
The problem is that just for say the colour wheel it uses loads of screen space. I know I can toggle between 'all-in-one' and multi-mode but they both have a split screen for the docks on the right.
I don't see any obvious way to move the colour wheel dock back to where it has been under the toolbox and brushes docks.
Maybe this is a fixed arrangement in 2.8, if so I will have to go back to my Mint 13 native version.
I can't figure out how to restore the default dock (may not be the correct terminology). This has the tools up top, and then, depending on what tool is selected, some settings on the bottom.
I've been in the windows tab trying to locate the dock and can't. Hitting "tab" on the keyboard opens another singular dock. I would like the original multifunction one that comes on install.
I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it remembered my dock settings.
How to dock some tabs (tool options, layers, colors...) in the toolbox? or dock the toolbox in a multitab tool window with tool options, layers, colors.. ? would be nice to have only TWO windows: one for the image (without pollution), one "service" window !
This was possible in 2.6, but not (for me) in 2.7.4.
I saw it once & it appeared (by accident) on the left side tool box. All of the properties of the text - i.e. size etc was shown on the tool box. How do I make that happen again ? I am brand new to Gimp.

But I saw a NASA video where this very intricate tree with branches and no leaves was made into a PNG perfect. Then they had the stars moving behind it. They didn't use a scissors tool. There was too much detail.
Sometimes Iwould close by mistake a tool dock by clicking alt-F4 a little toofast, while the dock has the focus, but I thought it was the image(and I wanted to close this image). Then the dock configuration (whichtools were set there, which tabs,size and position of the dock andtabs, etc.) is lost. So of course, I can always recreate the dock,reposition/resize it, set the right tools inside. But that's boring.
would therebe an option right now to prevent the tool docks from closing by theusual window-close event (so you could close them by the dock menuexplicitely, but not by quick shortcut for instance)?
I'm new here but an occasional Gimp user since v2.6. I have recently installed the latest version on my new tablet and I was configuring the layout of the docks and realised that there's no way to save different layouts so I could try alternative dock positions to find what suits best to my workflow, or maybe have different ones for depending on what I'm working on.
The only way I could think to achieve this could be to exchange Gimps preferences file, but where is that stored? BTW it would be a nice feature to add in future releases.
I'm a consistent yet still newbie user who uses GIMP in lieu of other photo editing programs. how to get my Toolbox and Tool Options to seam back together? I somehow pulled them apart, and when I click on 'Lock Tab to Dock' it does nothing, they're still separate.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy layers dock has gone missing. According to the list in my 'Windows' tab, it claims to be open. I have looked all over the screen. I have switched on and off again etc. I have even deliberately thrown other docks off the screen to see if they come back to normal screen area if I close and reopen Gimp- and they do. so it isn't lost off screen.
I have unistalled and re-insalled and it has not come back.
1. Go to Windows>recently closed docks - Mine says 'empty'
2. File>create docks - I don't have this option- mine choices are 'new', 'create', 'open', 'open as layers', ''open location', 'open recent'... then a few which pertain to having an image open that you're working on... then 'quit'.
3. I went to Youtube and the tutorials on how to make your Gimp like Photoshop and how to get back closed windows also haven't worked.
I'm on Gimp 2.6.
im using coreldraw x5 since last year but recently when ive tried to open uniform fill tool (***+f11) the separate window isnt showing up. is as if it is invisible because i would have to press esc to continue back to my work. the only pop up window that does work is fountain fill (f11) the rest such as option (ctrl+j) doesnt pop up

View 1 Replies View RelatedI think I started noticing this problem in 2013, but not sure. It's definitely happening in 2014 still.Basically I import an obj file. It looks fine, but there are a few parts grouped together. I grab them by selecting element, and detach. Boom! Now the normals are all messed up on the detached object.
and the same thing happens often when attaching other objects. Sometimes the normals just get flipped completely around even.
I know the difference between attach and overlay for reference files.
The problem here is that the xref IS attacehd as an overlay and I am still not able to detach it.
I am working on WisDOT transportation plans. For those that are not familiar with these projects, certain reference files must plot black in some plan sections, but grey in others. When we submit the plans to the utility companies, all utilities must be black. but are grey in everyother submittal. I changed the xref level attributes to plot black with the intensions of detaching the xref and reattaching to revert back to the orignial grey level attributes. Is there anyway that changing the level attributes is somehow not letting the xref be detached?

For some reason I now have to enter a path name at a command prompt in order to open another drawing. I also have the same situation when trying to attach a pdf or jpeg file to my drawing. how to revert back to the standard window of opening or attaching options?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhile working in a drawing, I noticed that my leaders looked a little odd. They had ALL lost their verticies and upon further investigation I realized that the mtext is no longer attached to the leader (i.e. when you select text and grab the grip and move, the leader, text end, does not follow). Start a new leader command, and all is well with the new leader and text but the old leaders remain disconnected.
This is a new file originated in 2013. Audit was 0. Restarted AutoCad, checked a bak file and auto-save, no changes to mleader settings or attachments. I do no recall executing any out of the ordinary commands or changing settings.
Our office recently moved all of our project files to the dropbox. Now when I open files with xrefs I have to attach them back into the file. However, this doesn't happen for my coworker. She can see all the xrefs. How could I solve this? The file names or directory has not changed.

However, I'm using elements 8 (cause I'm poor) and there is no pen tool option. I've never downloaded any plugins either so I wouldn't know where to look or how to install them (if its complicated).
