I have to do something in school where I have to make simple objects like laptops, speakers etc. These objects must be kept really simple, so no high detail or anything and they can't have a black outline around them.
What I wanted to know is, which tool can I create these simple objects with? They have to look smooth, they must have round edges and there cannot be an outline around them.
I am trying to make a simple gif animation. however when i do each layer does not disappear when the next is played. Each layer remains and successive layers are pasted on top.

I'm trying to make a logo consisting of a bunch of simple shapes which are all individual layers. All of these layers are on top of a transparent canvas. I'm not sure if canvas is the right word, but basically what I mean is that I launched GIMP and made a new image that's 512x512 filled with transparency, and by default that became a layer titled background which I consider to be the canvas of my entire Image.
I can't seem to draw on new layers anymore. I've been trying to make new layers filled with transparency and draw on them with the free select tool, ensuring that the opacity is not 0 and that the layer is selected, but its drawing on the background layer rather than the layer I made to draw on. So now when I try to adjust the position of the layer, the shape I drew stays in the same spot because its not part of the layer.
I'm trying to get the distribute tool to distribute some text objects (for a website menu) evenly. however, using the distribute section of the alignment tool only enables me to set an offset that measure the distance between the left, center or right edge of each object. if the objects are different widths, they will have varying distances between their edges.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was merrily cloning away and somehow or another my clone tool changed into a very thin elipse rather than a circle. I didn't knowingly do anything to make it change.
I then made sure it was on the round fuzzy tool brush - but it insisted on making an elipse.
is it possible to make the 'keep aspect' option in the scale tool checked by default? it is unchecked every time Gimp starts up and I tend to make the mistake and oddly scale a floating layer because the aspect isn't staying the same. is there any way to make the 'keep aspect' option on by default so when I start up Gimp I don't have to constantly scale it wrong or having to always need to lock the proportions?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a rectangular image. Is it possible to use the "Eclipse tool", and make a oval shape..and take my rectangular image, and completely conformed to an oval shape, no longer showing the rectangular corners (the whole image totally conformed to OVAL).
Second question...with GIMP, can one take an image, and make the edges look like there tattered, or worn?
IProblem 1: Tool Palettes on top of image.
I'm using a 15" thinkpad laptop, with I think 1024 x whatever highest resolution. When I use Gimp, my screen real estate is being eaten up by the tool palettes more so than the image I'm trying to work on. I like the tool palettes - I'd like them to stay open - BUT what I'd really like is for the image to lay over top of the palettes, rather than the palettes lying over top of my image.
Problem 2: Zooming and scrolling in the image.
I'm not too sure what was different about photoshop in this regard, but I'm having a bear of a time getting my images to zoom and scroll in the manner I was used to in photoshop. What can I change in the Gimp settings to make it behave more like photoshop in that regard? I found one setting to increase window size as the image zooms, but that was worse.
I like a lot of the aspects of Gimp, but these two things are preventing me from getting to use it very much presently.
I can't find an option in the text tool to make a certain word bold or italic or underlined or any other such effect.

I haven't used Photoshop in a while, but I remember that you could hold CTRL (on PC) and click with the Pen Tool and it would straighten up your shape for you once the paths are connected and would like to do similar in GIMP but can't find out how.
The new cage tool is fantastic to solve the following problem.
I take a photo with the smartphone of a book page. I need two hands for this. The page does not lies flat (see [URL].... because no more hands available to keep the page flat (and no glass sheet at hand...). Using the cage tool with 3 nodes above and 3 below the text produces an acceptable result see [URL]....
Question: Is there any better method? Any GIMP plugin or even Android app to solve this problem?
I can trace the deformed rectangle that enclose the page text, but then I don't know how to pass this info to the cage tool and ask to make it a real rectangle.
When I use the measure tool for the ruler an open centered cross is displayed - is there any way to make the size of the centre of the cross larger? this way i can get a more accurate measure of 2 points -

My question is what could be the problem? Different versions of Corel Draw?, bed LAN connection?, or something else?
Now with PSP it was very easy to take a screen shot and highlight a button or area on the image by drawing a hollow circle or oval and set the border color and width.

how do you make a simple border around text? I checked out the tutorial in the Teamphotoshop site, however I couldn't find "Effects" under "Layer". I have Photoshop 6 (soon gonna be getting Photoshop CS), is that the problem?
I tried to just highlight the text, expand it (or make a border, either one), and use the paintbucket tool to fill it the expanded/border area. However, it leaves off a slightly gritty or faded border.
I also tried by going into the layers, right click on text layer>blending properties>outer glow. But it still leaves a faded border.
All I want to do is put a couple of arrows in an illustration! I select custom shapes, then arrows, then I mouse-drag out the arrow, and, of course, they disappear when saved. So...now realizing that this is a path, I duplicate my first layer and place the arrows on the new layer. then I flatten. Still, arrows disappear.

I've taken on a task of merging a large collection of facilities drawn in CAD (from autocad 2006) and GIS data through the use of orthorectified imagery. each facility collection is comprised of dozens of individual dxf files aligned to each other, but based off an arbitrary coordinate space. I need to transfer the dxfs to their true lat/lon.
I can easily rubber sheet the dxfs onto the geo image in a tool like ArcGIS. What do i need to accomplish this task in the AutoCad arena? AutoCad Map?
This georectification process is the ONLY process needed in the task. It seems like quite a waste to purchase a large tool set when all i need is one tool. Is there an alternative application that will allow this simple process? possibly creating a world file and .prj for every dxf in a directory?
I am trying to make a hatch pattern in Illustrator CS6 with the pattern tool so I can apply a clean, single lined hatch to various shapes (some small some big - but the hatch needs to remain at the same seamless scale). I understand that there is a Basic Graphics_Lines Pattern under the Swatches Palette, but I don't understand how to edit it with the Pattern Options dialogue box.
I must be missing something, because I wouldn't think making a single line at 45° repeat at the same spacing for a shape fill would be that difficult. I shouldn't have to make a line with the pan tool at a stroke of 1000 with a 0.1-3 dash and make a clipping mask should I?
Basically I don't know how to make a pattern's lines match up when I do the 5x5 or 3x3. I tried doing 1x1 and the result is that of the image with the red stroke...still not aligning. Do I need to get mathematical with the size of the line I'm drawing and its stroke to allow H and V Spacing to work?

We have 60 of those intersections (crossroads) , if we would start making them all with intersection wizzard it would take a lot of time... , maybe there is simpler way to make such an easy crossings ? To do this I am creating a new image and some default size. I then add the text , set the background colour to black and the text colour to white and create my text.I am using the snap to canvas edge and sit it up in a corner.I then want to resize the who canvas to be the same size as the text block created and save the image. How to do this?I have seen the crop tool and can select the area I want but cant figure out how to save this as a new canvas/image sized only to the size of the text.
On screen this show when doing a simple layer mask fade with the gradient tool. (notice the hard transition in the black) The if I flatten it it looks fine, like this.
I don't understand why all of a sudden it is doing this, same with brushes. Just seems to happen in the layer mask which is really deceiving.
I have adobe CS5 and when I opened my software today, I discovered my swatches were gone from my tool bar. They are not entirely gone because I can get to them from my swatch libraries, however, I cannot drag and drop these swatches into my toolbar in order to click on them. I am trying to use the pen tool to draw a simple shape and the only swatches that come up is the none option (the white box with the red line going through it) and the registration, which I admitadly don't know much about.
I am using a Mac. I cannot figure out how to draw my shapes without a fill and using a black outline.
