I was merrily cloning away and somehow or another my clone tool changed into a very thin elipse rather than a circle. I didn't knowingly do anything to make it change.
I then made sure it was on the round fuzzy tool brush - but it insisted on making an elipse.
adobe photoshop elements 9 , i cannot get the circle to appear using clone stamp tool and the spot healing brush . i`ve tried restating my computer and unloading and loading the adobe disc . but still no good .

I have the layer with the eye in it active, I choose the clone tool, I hit CTRL and click the area of flesh around the eye I want to copy, I see a moving outline of the flesh that's being copied, It works spiffingly! I change brush size to work in a smaller area, I hit CTRL and click the area of flesh I want to copy, I see a moving outline of the flesh I want to copy, But nothing! My cursor moves, but no cloning going on.
This has been plaguing me for a while but I've had projects going that I didn't want to interrupt. It's gotten to the point that I just can't take it anymore. I really need the clone tool for this phase of this project
With CS6 on my Mac Pro desktop, in cloning skin color the newly cloned areas are perceptably more red. I have on occassion played with color mixes (not knowing what I was doing, just experimenting) and may have screwed something up.

It always says "Ctrl-click to set a new clone source"
Doing that says "set a source image first"
I just got a new computer running Windows 8. It's a powerful machine (i7, 4 cores, 8 GB RAM, hybrid HD) and it's smoking fast on everything except Gimp's clone tool. The clone tool is so slow it's barely usable.

I previously used Gimp 2.6. When using the clone tool, I would press CTRL to set the source. When I would being painting with the clone, the source would move relative the mouse pointer location and I was able to make sure the gradients were correct.
With 2.8 it looks like the source stays put and I cannot clone see to get the gradients I am working with to clone right because I have to stay in line with the source. How to replicate the functionality of 2.6 with it?
Where is it? On page 332 of Gimp Bible (2010) it illustrates it in the dialog box, but it is not present in mine. I think that I am running the latest version.

Could not use the clone stamp tool because the area to clone has not been defined (option-click to define a source point). this is what shows up in the command box when ever I click to start to pick the spot i want to use as the clone. makes my cloning tool useless. View 1 Replies View RelatedI was just using LR 4.3 (trial) to edit some photos in a collection I exported previously, but now when I use the Clone or Heal brush - the selection and sample circles are missing and not shown. As soon as I click on the spot to clone/heal out, it is immediately changed and I cannot tell where the sample is taken from. If I move my cursor to the area again, it changes to the double-pointing arrow to resize the edit circle and I can adjust it but the edges of the circle are not shown - only the area of pixels change. There is no difference if I left click or tap the touchpad on my laptop to apply the clone/heal.
I had installed the Nik Software package 1.0.0.7 in the mean time, and considering that may be the cause - uninstalled it and rebooted. The issue remained. I uninstalled LR 4.3 and rebooted, installed LR 4.4 and tested again - still the issue remains. I am not sure what else to test. Running on fresh Win 7 install (64bit) on ASUS UX32VD laptop.

What I wanted to know is, which tool can I create these simple objects with? They have to look smooth, they must have round edges and there cannot be an outline around them.
is it possible to make the 'keep aspect' option in the scale tool checked by default? it is unchecked every time Gimp starts up and I tend to make the mistake and oddly scale a floating layer because the aspect isn't staying the same. is there any way to make the 'keep aspect' option on by default so when I start up Gimp I don't have to constantly scale it wrong or having to always need to lock the proportions?

I'm using a 15" thinkpad laptop, with I think 1024 x whatever highest resolution. When I use Gimp, my screen real estate is being eaten up by the tool palettes more so than the image I'm trying to work on. I like the tool palettes - I'd like them to stay open - BUT what I'd really like is for the image to lay over top of the palettes, rather than the palettes lying over top of my image.
Problem 2: Zooming and scrolling in the image.
I'm not too sure what was different about photoshop in this regard, but I'm having a bear of a time getting my images to zoom and scroll in the manner I was used to in photoshop. What can I change in the Gimp settings to make it behave more like photoshop in that regard? I found one setting to increase window size as the image zooms, but that was worse.
I like a lot of the aspects of Gimp, but these two things are preventing me from getting to use it very much presently.
I can't find an option in the text tool to make a certain word bold or italic or underlined or any other such effect.

I haven't used Photoshop in a while, but I remember that you could hold CTRL (on PC) and click with the Pen Tool and it would straighten up your shape for you once the paths are connected and would like to do similar in GIMP but can't find out how.
