GIMP :: Add Signature Picture
Sep 25, 2012
Any way to add signature to the bottom of my posts? I had a look in preferences but can't find way to do it.
I'm also trying to make an animated section to it that has a kinda electrical charge effect, or the flare that runs along a line of lit gunpowder, to the outer edge of the centre section - the bars that hold the name section and the name itself. I've tried a few basic animation techniques but not been able to close to effect I want.

I have watched another person move a signature from one location to another and then clone the area where he took it from. This was so that I could crop a painting for print to fit a certain size and needed to. It will happen quite a bit for me, as artists sign fairly close to the bottom edge generally.

how to make your render "pop-out" of the signature area. It gives a really cool effect and is really simple to do. When we are done, it will look a little like this.
OK, to begin, you need to prepare your render. I am going to use this one.
Feel free to use it if you want to.
Open up a new image with the dimensions of 400 x 125. Now you will need to make a background. I'm not going to give any real steps on how to do this, but if you look around on this site, there are many tutorials showing you how to make them. Try using this one, as it is the way I am going to make mine. Don't add the render to your background though. We will do that later.
Following those steps you will get something like this. If you want to add a border, now is the time to do it. The link to the tutorial I told you about above will also show you how to do this.
You now have both a background and a render. Press Ctrl + A to select everything. Now go to:
Image ---> Canvas Size A window like the screenshot below will appear. If you made the size of your image 400 x 125 like I told you, simply set the settings to the same as shown. If you have used a different size, double the width and height of your image and type what the numbers come to into the boxes names "Width" and "Height". Set the offset X and Y values the same as in the screenshot.
Press "Resize".
Your canvas will now look something a little like this.
This is just how you want it.
Now for your render. Open it up and it will appear in a new window. If its to big, resize it. Now go back to your signature window and make a new layer. Copy your render and paste it on to your new layer. A handy tip to know is when you press F11, it will bring The GIMP into full screen mode allowing you to see what you are doing clearly. You should get something like this. Yours will have little dotted squares all behind it though like the image above. Its OK, its how it should be.
Now add some text or whatever you want on your signature. A cool way to make text look good is to type what you want out on to your signature in white, move it to where you want it to be, set that layer's mode to "Overlay" and then duplicate it untill it looks nice. Heres what I got. Again, squares should still be present.
Now merge all the visible layers by pressing Ctrl + M. Select the first option. Now right click on the layer in the layers window and select "Alpha to Selection". This will select all your signature. Copy it by pressing Ctrl + C. Then go to:
Edit ---> Paste as New
This will open up a new window with your signature in it. Go to:
File ---> Save as . . .
Save it as "Popout Signature.png" it must be in a .png for it to work.
Thats it your all done! This is what I got.

I've recently started trying to learn how to use GIMP through making signatures, and for the past 2 weeks or so, it has been going fine.
Today, when attempting to resize the large image down to signature size, even though the preview shows a good quality render, after it scales the image loses all quality. Whats more, thinking it might just be a poor image, I tried to resize previously succesful images and got the same bad result.
Here are some screenshots showing pre / post scale [URL]...
Preview there is fine, and shows a good quality render (exactly what I'm looking for)
[URL]...
This is the result
I understand that the aspect box is unticked, but even with that selected the image became distorted
I have also tried cubic / Sinc, both resulting in blurry picture.
The most frustrating thing is that the preview shows that the picture can be made that small and retain it's quality, and up until now this has not been an issue.

Is there a relatively simple, automated tool in gimp to apply one picture's environment lighting properties to another picture?
So for example if i cut out an object from one picture that has pretty warm lighting environment, and put it in a cold light background it will look pretty out of place obviously, and this is what I would like to resolve.

What I want to do, is take the path tool, make a pattern around a picture (which is rectangle) placing it on a picture of a board like this...and then pull the picture horizontally, and vertically, to make it circular, to fit the perimeter of the board. If I understand it correctly, when you use the path tool...it allows you to make an image round (from rectangular) is that true?

How do I make a 4 x 6 picture? I went to resize and converted to inches. i then put in 4 x 6, but it kept popping back to 4 x 4.
I have never used this program before, and I thought it looked easy, but I am evidently not doing something right.
The picture itself looks like a rectangular picture before I pulled it up in Gimp.

Would I be able to open a picture and zoom out to 45%. Then open a new layer with a new picture, and keep it at 100%?
Every time I try to change the 2nd layer image to 100% then over lay the first layer, the first layer automatically goes to 100%. Is there a way to keep one layer at 100% and another at 45%?

I am trying to blend two pictures using layer masks and the gradient tool. I have seen a tutorial from photoshop which enables you to place one picture on the top of the other and using the gradient tool blend and expose the background from all corners of the picture, in fact any part of the picture. However when I try to do multiple blends in GIMP, the first blend works OK but when I go to do the second one, the first one is deleted. The photoshop example showed a ladies face with forest scene and waterfall as a background. In that example with the face in the foreground, it was possible to blend from a number of places from all sides and each time a blend was done, it would remain there even after more blends were done. Does GIMP have the same capability for doing this as photoshop?
