GIMP :: Copying Text From Picture?
Jul 2, 2012I want to take some error warning from a computer program and change text, while maintaining the same shrift, color, etc.
So far, i've been using cloning. But if there is a great deal of letters, cloning becomes tedious pretty soon.
Just wondering if there exists some more elegant trick to do this job.

Second question. How to make a text looks "real".
I have thought : let's take a picture of a someone holding a blank paper and add a message.

It's not bad but it doesn't look as if I had stamped the message. So I was wondering is there any tool to do so ? Or to make the text fit the picture. As you can see, the quality is not perfect, the first thing coming in my mind is "pixels". It seems we have two different kind of "pixelisation" (I don't know if it's the correct term for what I want to say) : an "old" picture with a new text...I tried the pixel filter it's not working fine.

I have to replace "Customer Satisfaction" with some other text. The text is embedded in the image; so, it's not that easy, at least for me, to replace it without making it look amateurish. Of course, I duplicated the background and worked on that layer.
First method I tried was using the clone stamp, zooming in to 1600% to painstakingly erase it. But then when I zoom out, the background where the text was placed over does not match its surroundings and looks like someone shaded it. If you zoom in real close, before making any changes to it, you'll see that the "green" (what the RGB is) touching the text is different than the "green" in areas not touching text.
Next, I thought of using the magic wand to select the text for me and that looked liked it worked. But the problem is once I select it, how to delete it or blend it in with the background. That is, if I select the "C" in "Customer Satisfaction" with the magic wand, for instance, pressing delete does nothing. Then I found I can fill the area, after I select it with the magic wand; however, what the RGB combination is of the background. Is there a way I can find out what the RGB value is of the background, then apply that to my fill color and effectively delete the "Customer Satisfaction" text?
Once I'm able to get rid of the text, I can use the text editor plugin tool I downloaded to replace the text.
That's my logic, anyway. How I can replace text in an image, preferably as neatly as possible.

Oct 22, 2012Using the horizontal text tool I can make a text box, but no text-blinker shows up in the box and when I type no text will appear. Although, in the Layers pannel on the right side it does name the layer whatever I have typed so why won't it show on the picture? Even if you make all other layers invisible the text layer still does not show up on a blank background.

Nov 2, 2012i switched gimp 2.6 to 2.8 and new text tool behaves strangely, as i remember in gimp 2.6 when i try to change text content with selecting old text and pasting new text i could use same text size and same font with my old text without doing anything but now in the gim 2.8 whenever i try to change content of a text layer i need to choose again font and text size from toolbox options, but why do i have to do this, i have a text placed on my image with a certain font and certain font size and i just want to alter my text conten not the size of text or font , it changes automatically to back text size and font whatever i used last time in another work.
summary: i want to change my text content without setting my font and font size properties, i want to use my text layers old properties

Sep 25, 2012Any way to add signature to the bottom of my posts? I had a look in preferences but can't find way to do it.
I'm also trying to make an animated section to it that has a kinda electrical charge effect, or the flare that runs along a line of lit gunpowder, to the outer edge of the centre section - the bars that hold the name section and the name itself. Apr 22, 2012I am trying to blend two pictures using layer masks and the gradient tool. I have seen a tutorial from photoshop which enables you to place one picture on the top of the other and using the gradient tool blend and expose the background from all corners of the picture, in fact any part of the picture. However when I try to do multiple blends in GIMP, the first blend works OK but when I go to do the second one, the first one is deleted. The photoshop example showed a ladies face with forest scene and waterfall as a background. In that example with the face in the foreground, it was possible to blend from a number of places from all sides and each time a blend was done, it would remain there even after more blends were done. Does GIMP have the same capability for doing this as photoshop?

Dec 21, 2011The way I like to darken an image of a photo is that instead of using the burn tool, I create a new layer, set the opacity low (say 15) and then paint in the areas that I want to make darker. This gives me increased flexibility when I want to go back and fix what I did because I'm not altering the original layer.
Here's my problem though. One thing I like to do is to blur that layer using a gaussian blur to soften the edges of the area I am darkening. That works nicely but inevitably after applying the gaussian blur I want to come back and change something. That's a mess once the layer has already been blurred. So the work-around I've found is to save my darken layer and hide it from view (using the eye beside the layer) and then duplicate the layer and apply the gaussian blur. Then when I need to modify the area that I am darkening, I delete the visible blurred layer, change the invisible non-blurred version, then reduplicate and reblur. And that works.
What I think I want is some sort of "blurring" layer. Is there anything like that out there?
Lots of times I want to blur a mask a little and that gets to be a real pain. The steps I use to save my non-blurred version is to copy the mask to selection, then selection to path then change the path name to be Mask: (layer name). And then when I need to edit the non-blurred version, I delete the mask, change my path to a selection, then add mask from selection. then make my change, then reblur. Again it works but its difficult.
