View 3 RepliesI haven't been able to find a way to alter the default export location in 2.8 on Windows. How to change the workingdirectory on the shortcut, but that didn't work. how to change this? If not can I submit a request? Ideally I thinkthat Gimp should remember the last used location, and/or have a config settings.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently switched from GIMP 2.2 to GIMP 2.8. I'm using Linux (Mageia 3)
With 2.2, if I ran the GIMP from the command line, when I did File-> Open the file browser would open in the same directory that I had started the GIMP from.
With 2.8 the file browser opens in "Recently Used" and I have to navigate to the directory I want. Is there any way to make it open in the current directory instead?
Export to BMP seems to default to 32 bits, but my 3d texture maps must all be in 24 bits. I would like to know how to make it default to 24 permanently.
Is there a setting for that?
Is there a way to make .jpg the default export file type, or must it be .png?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my laptops to Fedora 17 and Linux Mint 13, which now come with Gimp 2.8. After discovering that Save and Save as are moved to Export to and Export, I tried saving the default export settings for JPG. I usually set the Quality to 80 and make some other adjustments. However, the defaults always revert back no matter how many times I press the Save Defaults button.
Also, is there any way to make Gimp always use the previously selected settings? It seems that even though I set the defaults, with some images I open, edit and attempt to export, it tries to adjust the quality settings again. I just want to always have the defaults I have set for exporting jpg files without having to click an extra button or keyboard shortcut every time I save a file.
I adjust lots and lots of pix for our ebay auctions. Many items have at least 5 pix so they have the same file name but with a 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. at the end of the file name to distinguish them from each other. Example: eapgcompote1.jpg , eapgcompote2.jpg etc..
The problem that I have with Gimp is every time I save/ export a pic Gimp does not save the last export location and last modified date nor does Gimp offer the ability to select from previously saved items like in PhotoShop. I have to go thru about 5 steps in order to save each pic.
When trying to install autocad 2010 civil 3D, I cannot get past the initial select products to install page without getting a bunch of errors as detailed below:
Error 1327. Invalid Drive C:
Then;
Fatal error during installation.
#7560: failed to run AdskExecuteSequence
and finally;
Failed to initialise AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010
This is because when I installed windows, it assigned the letter H to the system drive (where Windows is installed) and as a result, there is no C drive in the system.
This has not been an issue for any programs installed to date, but is causing me grief when trying to install AutoCAD Civil 3D. 2010
Any way of changing the autocad code or settings around so that it will install to the H drive (or I can decide where it should install)?
Each time I go to insert a raster image it opens to a directory which has no files stored in it.
I do have a handful of directories that have my image files stored, and I have gone into Options>Files>storage paths>.... and set them per specs.
Is there a way to change the default directory that the dialogue box opens, when I select- Insert>Raster Image ?
I've also gone through all the options under the Option>File tab, and likewise don't see where it'd be set. I even clicked all the plus signs, down to their respective directories, and none of them match.
Is it possible to change the default import directory from "My Pictures" to a different directory? It gets tedious to have to specify the directory I want to use every single time I import and I have not found a way to make this change sticky.
That seems like it should be a preference but I can find no way to make this change.
Autocad is saving files to the Temp folder. I like to keep that folder nice and clean. My question is: which file location in the options dialog box that controls that issue?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have Lightroom 3.6. I also have a lot of images. So I got a READYNAS RNDU4000 disk array (RAID) with 4 disks each of 2 TB. My computer is running Windows XP Professional SP3. It mounts the RAID array as a network drive just fine. Now suppose I have some new images. I make a new folder on the RAID array, lets say it is called "WildAnimalPark" and copy the images in there. I start up Lightroom, and choose Import Files, and point it at WildAniamalPark, and it imports the images just fine, and lets me make adjustments. (The Lightroom catalog is in my F drive, a hard drive on my computer.) Now I want to export smaller jpegs suitable for web or e-mail. So I go to File->Export. I tell it to export the images to "Same folder as original photo", and check "Put in Subfolder" and name the subfolder "email". Farther down I ask for the images to be scaled to 800 pixels on the long edge and to limit the file size to 125K. (I doubt these details matter.) When I click "export", it appears like it is going to work. You can see the progress bar move across as it makes the files. But then I get an dialog box that says, "Some export operations were not performed. The file could not be written," followed by a list of off the files it should have written. When I look it the original directory, I see that it has created the subfolder "email" (so it really can write to the RAID array), but it is empty.
I should add that it works perfectly if I put the directory on a local hard drive.
I need to know how I can install GIMP on a directory other than C. I am using windows 7.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have tried many so called batch plug ins and am now convinced that Gimp plugins are the new "Rick Roll" because not one has ever done anything or even been recognized by the main Gimp program.
I know there has to be a way to just select one transparent png file and paste it onto every jpg in a directory automatically. This of course assumes that all files involved are the same size and shape.
I have an odd behavior with saving, how to deal with. This is using Gimp 2.6.11 under Windows 7 Professional SP1.
When you do a "Save As" for a new picture, the default directory is "\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\bin". I have been careless and sometimes clicked "Save" without changing the directory. When I go to the directory "C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\bin", the files are not visible. But within Gimp, I can use the "Open" menu item to see them and open them, so they do exist.
how I can delete these files, because they don't belong in the bin directory?
I need to process multiple photos every day in the same way and am trying to minimize the effort needed by automating Gimp with Scrip-fu, which seems to be kind of limited. My plan was to save the files in specified folders and using incron (an inotify service) to open them in Gimp; do a manual perspective backward transformation by hand and start a script would, resize them and based on their filename and what directory they came from, save them to the correct folders for display on web pages.
I'm having difficulty figuring out how to get the filename and directory which the images came from.
I have a problem with Adobe Bridge opening files in PS 64 bit instead of my prefered 32 version.I took the "Typical"install when I installed Photoshop and I suppose that's why 64 is the default.
Any hints for making 32 the default before I go playing with registry settings?
Trying to run the default vignette action, I get a message that "feathering is not currently available." I'm wondering why I'm getting the error message and how to fix it.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded from CS6 to CC. When I open a psd file, it opens at 100%, but the window is small with scroll bars. I have plenty of screen real estate, so that's not the problem. I have looked everywhere and can't find how to make the default 100% showing the entire image.
View 7 Replies View RelatedIf you right-click an image and click "Edit" in Windows, this opens the image in MS Paint. And you can't change this. Or that's what I thought; here's how to change that to Paint.NET!
Warning: This post probably looks really suspicious since this is my first post. What the heck. Anyways, I know diddly squat about the Registry. Some tweak sites for XP mentioned this tweak (stating this key would be found at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ SystemFileAssociations \ image \ shell \ edit \ command). That exact key didn't exist. So, I searched the Registry for "SystemFileAssociations" and found the key I wrote below (in HKLM). I then took a huge risk and tried the hack. It worked, but I may have inadvertently told Windows to delete C:\Windows upon reboot.
All right, so if you right-click an image in Windows XP, Vista, or 7, there is an option in the context menu called "edit". This defaults to MS Paint and I thought that was impossible to change. Until I did some Google'ing (see Warning above). Go to this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\SystemFileAssociations\image\shell\edit\command
First, back up your registry (System Restore or regedit.exe -> File -> Export). Again, anything you do now is completely your responsibility. Then, right-click the only key in there, click Modify, and replace the path with your PaintDotNet.exe path (obviously include \PaintDotNet.exe). Don't change the quotes or the %1. Just delete MS Paint's path and insert PaintDotNet.exe's path.
