LR4 will not appear in Windows 7 default programs and access as a default program to choose. Microsoft says it is becasue it does not appear in the Windows registry and to contact the manufacturer. How do I get LR4 registered in Windows 7? If I have to reinstall what do I need to do to protect my file structures, etc.?

Selecting individual file types doesn't work for me much when, apart from .jpgs and .tiffs, I don't know all the file types PSE 10 can open and I want it to open everything it can. I do not want Windows 8 opening my stuff.

I went to default programs control panel an did not see where you change anything ?And what do you change it to ? Not sure what they are telling me to do ?
So you know what system I have, I use a laptop running Windows 7 64bit, with a dual core processor and 4GB RAM. It's a very capable machine and I don't usually have a problem using LR on it.
After installing LR 3.3 over 3.2 I experienced a problem whereby the PC would not recognise which program to use for opening the lrcat catalog files. Using the Default Programs option in Control Panel didn't work as Windows wouldn't accept Lightroom as the default program and kept suggesting I open the catalog using Adobe Reader instead.
I seem to remember having an issue with the 3.2 update as well but that was simply the icon for file type being missing (showing a default unknown file type icon).
Anyway, resolved the problem but had to resort to downloading a program called Default Programs Editor (http:[url]...... to correct the problem. Am thinking next upgrade, I will uninstall LR completely before installing the update, just to be sure.
I use few image types, 90% are png, the rest 10% are gif/jpeg. When I want to edit an image, I can start the editor from the context menu of the image icon and with almost all the images the default editor is Paint.Net but not for the gif images. how to set it in the registry but ... I didn't found the clean way to do it.
How Paint.net is registering itself as the default editor for the other image types? How can add to this list the gif type?
I just updated from Photoshop CS6 to CC. All of the file types I had associated with CS6 reverted to a default image program. When I attempted to associate these files, including photoshop psd files, win7 refused to recognize CC as a program I could associate files with!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had a couple occurrences of X6 crashing suddenly, but a common one is when I've switched away from X6 and then try to switch back by clicking on the X6 icon on the Windows 7 taskbar. I'm running Win7 64bit. When I hover my mouse over the CDX6 icon on the taskbar, a couple of the preview mini-windows will show the Windows "working" round rotating icon for about a half second and then BAM - the windows "This Program is Not Responding" window comes up where you choose to either let windows find a solution (it never does), or just close the program.
I never have any trouble opening the program back up, or working with the exact same files that were open when it crashed. It does seem to happen when I have multiple files open, but I almost always am working with 3-4 at a time.
I signed up for Adobe Creative Cloud, so that I could evaluate the latest version of Illustrator and Photoshop. I downloaded and installed Illustrator, however my computer crawled after the install. So I had to do a System Restore back to before the download and install of Illustrator.
After the System Restore, I again downloaded and installed Illustrator. The program showed up in the programs menu. I then downloaded and installed Photoshop and Dreamweaver. But after that, two separate versions of Photoshop show up - regular and 64 bit (I only downloaded and installed one version of Photoshop), and Dreamweaver. Illustrator no longer shows up in the Windows 7 Programs menu. How is this possible???
I looked in C:Program Files, and a 342MB Illustrator CC file is there. But I cannot find a .exe file in that file, and so cannot start Illustrator.
Worse still, when I try to download and install Illustrator once again, Adobe Creative Cloud shows me as having downloaded and installed it already, and that it is working perfectly - which is of course, NOT TRUE! Creative Cloud will accordingly not allow me to download and install Illustrator again! So while Creative Cloud thinks I have a worling version of Illustrator CC to try out and evaluate, I in fact do not!
What happened, and why the version installed in Program Files folder is not showing up i the Programs Menus of Windows 7, and or what I can do to get Illustrator to start up.
When I try to make LR the default program for these files (left-clicking> set default program> browse> select LR), it is like it doesn't go through. LR still does not show up as the default program. I have been using LR for awhile now and loved it until this odd glitch. Is there a way to uninstall the last update?

Second question. If I also happen to apply a Preset during Import that has some of the same Develops as my Default Settings, like Lens Corrections or Sharpening, what will happen? Will the effects be cumlative/additive/doubled or will LR only apply the effect once?
I have many files which I created by making a copy of the original and editing it. I have the original file with no edit history. The copy which shows the results of the editing is marked as a missing file and the edit history is greyed out. Both file share the same name with the exception that one is a copy. Is there any way to re-link these files? When I try to search for the missing file and point to the original, it tells me that the file is already linked to a file and can't be linked to a second file.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have recently downloaded Photoshop CC, Bridge and Lightroom 5.2 64 bit and am suffering with terrible performance issues. Initially both photoshop and lightroom worked really well but after only a couple of days and only a few hundred images being imported into lightroom I can no longer use lightroom.
The computer works fine prior to me opening lightroom, I can use all programs, open files and folders with no issue. However as soon as I have opened Lightroom then the whole system grinds to a hault. Lightroom is unresponsive and the rest of the system practically freezes, it took over an hour to open a folder containing roughly 100 JPEGs. When closing the laptop I have to manually close background programs because they are also unresponsive.
The computer has 6Gb RAM, 500GB HDD and a dual core processor so there is ample power to cope with this program on my system.
why when I import into Lightroom 3, why my photo's are duller and greyer than when I import them into iPhoto or Aperature or Capture NX? I'm just importing from my SD card in raw format. On my camera (Nikon D60) and on all the other programs the photo looks how I took the picture. Only in Lighroom, upon import it seems to change the color.

When I close all programs and I try to eject drive it says that a program is still using it. Warning: This post probably looks really suspicious since this is my first post. What the heck. Anyways, I know diddly squat about the Registry. Some tweak sites for XP mentioned this tweak (stating this key would be found at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ SystemFileAssociations \ image \ shell \ edit \ command). That exact key didn't exist. So, I searched the Registry for "SystemFileAssociations" and found the key I wrote below (in HKLM). I then took a huge risk and tried the hack. It worked, but I may have inadvertently told Windows to delete C:\Windows upon reboot.
All right, so if you right-click an image in Windows XP, Vista, or 7, there is an option in the context menu called "edit". This defaults to MS Paint and I thought that was impossible to change. Until I did some Google'ing (see Warning above). Go to this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\SystemFileAssociations\image\shell\edit\command
First, back up your registry (System Restore or regedit.exe -> File -> Export). Again, anything you do now is completely your responsibility. Then, right-click the only key in there, click Modify, and replace the path with your PaintDotNet.exe path (obviously include \PaintDotNet.exe). Don't change the quotes or the %1. Just delete MS Paint's path and insert PaintDotNet.exe's path.
When I insert a window it sets the window at a SILL height. I would like to default inserting windows at a HEAD height. Can this be done?

Under CC, the default appears to be to put them in separate tabs and one must select separate windows from the Window Arrange sub menu. How can I restore the CS5 default.
