I've recently updated to 2.8.6. I've noticed that opening files is extremely slow. Once the file is open it works fine, but it takes way too much time, even just opening folders. I use the program for photo editing.
The problem is that opening files is painfully slow - having read about the issue with network printers (which I don't have) I have deleted everything listed under printers and re-installed the only printer that I have (which is locally attached via USB, but I deleted it in case Adobe thought is was a network printer). I have tried to create a generic printer (as recommended by Mr Joslin to jangel2 uRL.... but the installation failed and no additional printers were visible in control panel/printers. Â I am running Windows 7 on a Dell desktop, with plenty of memory etc. I have a number of external hard drives, and have turned all these on so Photoshop can find them in case it's looking, but this made no difference.
My 8 core 2.8 GHz Mac Pro has 10 GB RAM and a blank 100 GB scratch disk. Photoshop is always quick. Has been for years. Suddenly today, Photoshop is slow like molasses to open & save files. Lots of progress bars and wait cursors. Everything else on the Mac is fine. It boots quickly & normally, and other apps are happy. My boot drive, a clean installed Mountain Lion system, says S.M.A.R.T. Status: Verified. In Activity Monitor, a process with ID # 0, Kernel Task, was using 700 to 800 MB RAM, while another process, mds, with ID # 44, is using 350 MB RAM. Â I should add that I booted from a backup system and its copy of Photoshop was also doing the same thing. In addition, a high level troubleshooter on Apple Discussions informed me that my present level of 500 MB RAM for Kernel Task is normal. So all I know is Photoshop is suddenly slow.
I work in a print shop that prints biggish stuff. I will frequently have files that postscript to close to a GB or more. Working on simple vector art with a few images in CC is not too much of a problem, but I still notice CC is slower than CS 6. The big problem is when I get a few 200mb PDF's, or files with layers of transparent PSD files in them etc, big busy files, then AI CC really bogs down, or frequently crashes altogether. CS 6 is MUCH better. I don't have the font issues, AI CC works fine with simple files. Saving & opening these big files is such a problem, I just save them back to CS 6, but that causes problems too, I do not want to, nor should I have to have 2 versions open at the same time.
I always try to optimize the files as best possible, but it is tough sometimes as they R supplied by the customer, and the time it takes. We save to a Windows Server 2008 R2 box over gigabit network, which I know is not best practice, but no choice with the sheer volume of files. Would B insane to try to keep track & copy them back & forth, and it was never a big issue with CS 6. I am the first victim in our office, but the other 3 Mac Pro's will B switching over to CC this week, and I know the operators will B crying. Â Mac Pro 2.4GHZ 12 core 32GB 1TB Mac OS X 10.7.5
I have recently installed Corel X6 and have found it to be painfully slow when opening files. At first I had thought it might be a network issue so I copied the file to a local drive and experienced the same problem.Â
The file is only 819Kb but it takes about 3 minutes to open the file. When I first select the file in the File Open dialogue window Corel just hangs for about 1 minute. It finally responds then takes a further 2 minutes to process and open the file.
I have turned off my antivirus software as I thought this might be a file scanning issue but still the same result.
I only just found out about them when I was looking for some textures on Tumblr and I believe they basically change the color of an image, if I'm right?
I recently upgraded GIMP to version 2.8.4. I just attemptes to open a PNG file and the open dialogue box stayed up and the file never opened. I tried with a JPG file and had the same result.
Was working on a project this morning which is originally in a pdf file. The previous gimp opens it fine. updated to the latest and greatest gimp and now it opens the pdf file but only shows empty layers! No graphics at all. I reverted back to 2.6.11. It works fine again now. Is this a bug or is there some setting I am not aware of?
I'm editing hundreds of files that I can't batch process. I'm opening them in groups. GIMP is making me crazy by opening the files in a scatter over the desktop which requires extra steps in moving windows around in order to make my edits. Is there a way to open files in a stack instead?
I am trying to view questions here and you know the "attached files'' that you have to click on in order to view? I am unable to open them. Instead of it opening it downloads a blank icon on my desktop. I tried with different browsers and the same problem.
i can't open any file type except .png files.i think cause is from libjpeg and when i compile gimp didn't install and i has to compile with --disable-jpeglib or like this switch.
I am using Gimp 2.6.11. I have had the same issue with all older versions.
For whatever reason, GIMP refuses to open any file that contains non-English characters. For example, if I try to open a file called GoranDragićDunk.png, it will tell me there is no such file or directory. Changing the file name to GoranDragicDunk.png fixes the issue, so it's clearly to do with having Ć instead of C. Now, the problem is that it also does this if the foreign characters are found anywhere within the path, so that it will not open C:\My Files\NBA\GoranDragić\AwesomePass.png either because it contains the Ć within the path name.
Now, I know that older versions of programs such as Adobe Acrobat had this same issue, but it was fixed years ago. Am I the first person to notice this with GIMP? It shocks me that such a simple thing has not been fixed yet. Would I have to install a foreign-language version of GIMP?
Running Mac os x Mountain lion (latest release 10.8.3 I believe) and Latest release of Gimp (just installed last week 2.8.4)
If I double click and open a file (file format doesn't matter, jpg, tiff, xcf etc) the file opens gimp and it opens correctly.
However If once gimp is open I try and double click on another file it pops up an error "The document "text.xcf" could not be opened. Gimp Cannot open files in the "Gimp Image" format.
If I then close gimp and double click that same file it opens gimp and the files opens as normal.
It doesn't matter if i'm logged in as administrator or a regular user. I've tried downloading the program and copying it back to the app folder again.
Perhaps I need to wipe out the GIMP folder in ~/Library/Application Support ?
I downloaded successfully, installed CS4, registered and it is activated. My only problem is it takes a LONG time for CS4 to open. From the time you double click the icon, it seems like it takes forever before the blue box pops up, then it takes longer than CS3 to get to the open program. As far as I can tell, I have the same settings for both programs but CS3 beats it hands down for speed to open. I am running 3 gb of memory, an Intel Quad 4 processor, and lots of disk space.
I just dropped a very large sum of $ to purchase CS4 Extended and the #$*@# thing is taking over 5 minutes to open!!! (Yes, I've timed it.) Once open it appears to run fine, although I've yet to put it through it's paces much. The obvious answer would be that I have an undersized slow computer. However, that is far from the case. I have a brand new Dell laptop with plenty of 'horsepower', much more than the system requirements listed on the outside of the box. It does the same thing with both the 64 bit and 32 bit version.
Here are a few of the "vitals" on the laptop: Operating System: Windows Vista 64-bit Version: 6.0 Service Pack 1Processor Core Duo2: 2493 MHzVideo Card: VIDI GeForce 8600M 250MB GT/PCI/SSE2Built-in memory: 4093 MBImage cache levels: 4Hard Drive: 500G
I have CS6 installed on a Mac Pro desktop, 3.3 Ghz machine, 6 Gb RAM, running OS X Mountain Lion. Everything is running fine, updated and it's a great machine. But I've noticed that opening Photoshop files that are somewhat large and layered take WAY too long to open or "save." I mean...3 minutes is much too long to wait.
I have a spare physical drive configured (in preferences) for extra RAM, with plenty of empty drive space. The startup drive has well over 250 Gb of space remaining.  The only applications running are Photoshop and Bridge. There is 6 Gb of RAM to run these applications and open files. OpenGL is checked in Preferences and I'm running an nVidia graphics card, as well.
We have started to deploy AutoCAD 2011 64 Bit on Windows 7 64 Bit machines and have come across an issue where when opening or saving files across a Cisco WAAS accelerated network that have referenced images takes a lot more time than drawings that do not have attached images. We have updated graphics drivers to the most recent certified driver from the autodesk site as well as disabling Aero and all the other Windows 7 tweaks to no avail. The files with images still open/save much slower than those without.
I've downloaded the trial version of Lightroom 4.1 to give a try with my raw files. Â First LR is very slow at generating the preview (takes about 30 sec for some files), the only filter applied at import is "Lens correction".
When Applying corrections, it takes seveal seconds to see it on the preview and there is also a lot of lag. Â Maybe is a limitation of the trial ? My RAW files are CR2 from a DSLR Canon EOS 60D (18 Mpix): 5184x3456. Â I try LR on the following setup: Â OS: Windows 7 SP1 32bit CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ RAM: 2 GB HD system: 7200 RPM 300 GB Screen resolution: 1920x1080
i have like 20 frames and the delay between the frames is 0,01 sec's, its perfect in the preview, but when im exporting it, its really slow. i've even deleted like the half of the frames and its still very slow, im using Photoshop CS4 and the file is like 500KB and there are like 43-50 colors, its also slow when i upload it on tumblr or something.
Autocad 2012 was working fine until a week ago when it started taking a long time to open drawings--even search for drawings on our network. It also takes at least 30 seconds to save files, where it used to take 5 seconds at most.Â
I found the AutoCad 2012 and AutoCad LT 2012 SP1 Ribbon Hotfix, which sounded like my problem, but it is for Product Version F.107.0.0 and I have Product Version F.51.0.0.
