Jul 13, 2013Why is Bridge CS6 suddenly slow to open files?

View 1 RepliesMy 8 core 2.8 GHz Mac Pro has 10 GB RAM and a blank 100 GB scratch disk. Photoshop is always quick. Has been for years. Suddenly today, Photoshop is slow like molasses to open & save files. Lots of progress bars and wait cursors. Everything else on the Mac is fine. It boots quickly & normally, and other apps are happy. My boot drive, a clean installed Mountain Lion system, says S.M.A.R.T. Status: Verified. In Activity Monitor, a process with ID # 0, Kernel Task, was using 700 to 800 MB RAM, while another process, mds, with ID # 44, is using 350 MB RAM.
I should add that I booted from a backup system and its copy of Photoshop was also doing the same thing. In addition, a high level troubleshooter on Apple Discussions informed me that my present level of 500 MB RAM for Kernel Task is normal. So all I know is Photoshop is suddenly slow.
CS3 Extended, on Vista Ultimate,
Was working fine, then one day went to edit a file and got a message saying could not open due to program error.
I have reset preferences and turned version cue off, but still nothing works.
I have previewed the "flattened" image in brava, and in the open console of adobe, so i can see the file is there.
I have reinstalled adobe, but still nothing.
I have tried saving new images and opening them, but they will not!
The problem is that opening files is painfully slow - having read about the issue with network printers (which I don't have) I have deleted everything listed under printers and re-installed the only printer that I have (which is locally attached via USB, but I deleted it in case Adobe thought is was a network printer). I have tried to create a generic printer (as recommended by Mr Joslin to jangel2 uRL.... but the installation failed and no additional printers were visible in control panel/printers.
I am running Windows 7 on a Dell desktop, with plenty of memory etc. I have a number of external hard drives, and have turned all these on so Photoshop can find them in case it's looking, but this made no difference.
Windows cannot find C:/Program Files (x86)/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS3/Photoshop.exe
I installed Photoshop CS6 Upgrade (64bit and 32Bit) to my PC which ran CS5 Extended. When I deleted CS5, Bridge stopped opening files, whether I double clicked on the file or did Open with: I get the same error message.
I have recently upgraded to a Nikon d90 and i can no longer open any NEF files in photoshop or adobe bridge.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using CS4 Bridge 3.0.0.0.464 When I double click on a JPG file it opens in Photoshop. I prefer to edit my JPG files with Bridge camera RAW. At present, I have to right-click and choose 'open in camera RAW'. Is there a workaround for this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI changed my preferences to remove the check-box "prefer Adobe camera RAW for Jpeg and TIFF files" , restarted Bridge and tried to open a JPEG from bridge directly into photoshop. But double clicking on the image in bridge opened "paint".
So I change the Bridge preferences back to Prefer ACR for JPEG again, restart Bridge, and then bridge tells me that it cannot find Photoshop CS2. CS2 is not even loaded on this machine anymore.
So then I go to the file type associations preferences and "browse" to the CS3 version of photoshop, restart bridge, and double click on a JPEG and it again says that CS2 cannot be found. I change the association again using the "browse" to CS3 and then it opens the image up in "Paint" again.
Why won't Bridge open JPEG's in ACR anymore?
Why won't bridge open JPEG's in Photoshop CS3 anymore?
Files are very slow to open (1 minute) in PSE 7 .This has just started after 3 years
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhenever I try to open the Brushes panel, the Bridge window pops up. I know that Bridge is a media manager, so I'm not sure why is it opening. I really need to edit the brushes and I can't find a way to do it. Is there a way to disable bridge or another way to open the brushes panel that won't open bridge?

View 1 Replies View RelatedCS6, how do I open files in Bridge directly into Photoshop. The default is File Viewer or there is an option to open in Adobe RAW.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI can not open CR2 file in CS4 or Bridge. The CR2 images show in the preview window when I click the "open" button under "file". When I select the image to open I get "Unable to complete your request because it is not the right kind of document." I have uninstalled and re-installed the software, installed all the updates and get the same results.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI shoot in RAW, and have always edited my pictures in Camera RAW via Elements 8. I recently upgraded my old Dell to a new Mac, and now I'm having trouble. I cannot seem to open the RAW files in Elements, this is what I get when I try to open a file with Camera Raw (I know it says Photoshop Raw, but I do have Camera Raw selected):
When I try to open a RAW file in Adobe Bridge, it's not even an option, it's grayed out. BUT, it will let me open jpegs in Camera Raw in Adobe Bridge! So confusing. So far I have tried updating the Camera Raw plug in. I followed the directions exactly, but no dice. When I look at the "about plug in" section on PSE, it shows that it is the updated version, 6.2.0.29. But when I look at a jpeg in Camera Raw through Adobe Bridge, it says Camera Raw version 5.0.
I am not able to see or open Raw files from my Canon 40D in either Photoshop CS3 or Bridge CS3. At first I was able to open RAWS in Photoshop and then I followed directions on the internet at how to manually replace a Camera Raw Plugin so I could open it in Bridge and now neither of the apps work with RAW. In photoshop It says that the file is not supported.
I looked up what plug in I needed and it said 4.2 for a Canon 40 D. I also followed the instructions in the read me file that was with the plugin download. No results from it. I even tried to switch it back to the old plug in to see if I could atleast get back the capiblility of opening it in Photoshop even though bridge was not working...still can't open it in either. What am I missing?
I have a Canon 5D Mk lll/Photoshop & Bridge CS6/Camera Raw 7.1 and I still can't open the CR2 files on my Canon.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed Photoshop CS6 - 64 bit, but Bridge keeps opening up photos in my CS5 that is still on my computer. How do I change this so that it will open the photos in Photoshop CS6?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've recently updated to 2.8.6. I've noticed that opening files is extremely slow. Once the file is open it works fine, but it takes way too much time, even just opening folders. I use the program for photo editing.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI work in a print shop that prints biggish stuff. I will frequently have files that postscript to close to a GB or more. Working on simple vector art with a few images in CC is not too much of a problem, but I still notice CC is slower than CS 6. The big problem is when I get a few 200mb PDF's, or files with layers of transparent PSD files in them etc, big busy files, then AI CC really bogs down, or frequently crashes altogether. CS 6 is MUCH better. I don't have the font issues, AI CC works fine with simple files. Saving & opening these big files is such a problem, I just save them back to CS 6, but that causes problems too, I do not want to, nor should I have to have 2 versions open at the same time.
I always try to optimize the files as best possible, but it is tough sometimes as they R supplied by the customer, and the time it takes. We save to a Windows Server 2008 R2 box over gigabit network, which I know is not best practice, but no choice with the sheer volume of files. Would B insane to try to keep track & copy them back & forth, and it was never a big issue with CS 6. I am the first victim in our office, but the other 3 Mac Pro's will B switching over to CC this week, and I know the operators will B crying.

I have recently installed Corel X6 and have found it to be painfully slow when opening files. At first I had thought it might be a network issue so I copied the file to a local drive and experienced the same problem.
The file is only 819Kb but it takes about 3 minutes to open the file. When I first select the file in the File Open dialogue window Corel just hangs for about 1 minute. It finally responds then takes a further 2 minutes to process and open the file.
I have turned off my antivirus software as I thought this might be a file scanning issue but still the same result.
I don't hve the fastest computer, admittedly. But dowloading raw pics cand take ten minutes per picture. I am downloading to an external drive - is that the problem, or do I simply need to get a more modern/ faster computer?
I typically shoot in raw and export jpg versions..
the speed of cutting and pasting, as well as saving a drawing in CorelDraw X5 has drastically slowed down.Could it be a Windows issue and not a Corel issue? I have plenty of RAM and I've defragged.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAutocad 2008 has been running smoothly for a long time. This morning on trying to use the programme, working in model space has become almost impossible as the pan and zoom functions have become very slow and move in short distances before a pause and then moves again. I've tried restoring my pc to a previous restore point as I had a windows update last night, but it won't restore. If I access the model through a viewport the pan and zoom functions are normal.

After an external backup drive had its partition deleted we used recovery software to get as many files back as possible. It sorted the files by types but gave them all numbers for names. Using bridge to preview the illustrator files, most show a thumbnail, some just a small illustrator icon. When I try to open the files, some open no problems.
Some of the files are collections of vector art (multiple clipart in one file). In the preview that Bridge shows, the file is complete and all art is there. When I try to open some of these files, I get error messages like:
"Can't open the illustration. The illustration contains an illegal operand.
##.####.##
%##.####.####.###.....etc."
And when I click "OK" the file is either missing some of the artwork or it is completely blank. How does the preview show the complete file and when opened it's either missing elements or blank?
I just installed Photoshop CC last night and today Bridge is VERY slow. Every folder I open even if I opened it yesterday has to build some kind of an index. Also it keeps crashing it never crashed before.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm on a Mac Pro, quad core, 9 GB memory. I have been using CS5 for all my photo work and use Bridge and ACR to do all of my editing. I have set up two monitors with content on the right screen as thumbnails and preview (and other tabs) on the left screen. To do my edits I use the right/left arrow keys to scroll through the images (and then make my picks/ratings) as I go.
I just installed CS6 Demo and am trying to do the same thing...everything else works normally but the right/left arrow keys (moving from image to image) now takes 4 to 5 seconds to bring up the image (CS5 was instant). All paramaters/settings/preferences are the same. I know CS6 needs a more powerful video card (mine is only 256 mb...I will be upgrading soon)...but here's the weird thing which leads me to believe that's not the problem...the up and down arrow keys work normally, i.e. they go from image to image instantly. I edit folders of images that range from 200 to 300, up to 1500 images from a shoot on a daily basis so I need this to work for me!
Also, I'm having problems trying to run a batch in CS6, I set up an action identical to what I had running in CS5 (embedding a text logo on an image) and while it goes through the process of doing the action, at the end it pops up an error message and lists all the images saying it could not process the request. Weird or what?
