3ds Max :: Animate Rotation Of Object When It Comes Close To Another Object

Mar 12, 2013

I am trying to animate the rotation of an object whenever it comes close to another object.

For example object 1 is the needle of a compass, I want it to point straight up whenever it comes close to object 2 (a magnet).

I need this to work regardless of where these objects are in world space. The only thing that matters is that they be next to each other; i.e. just like a real compass and a real magnet. I thought maybe I need a proximity sensor but I can't find any good tutorials on that.

Photoshop :: 3D Object Rotation In CS5.5

Feb 29, 2012

I created a simple shape in Photoshop I then edited the shape using the Repoussé dialog. I simply extruded the object. The default extrusion depth setting of 1.0 was far too deep for my needs so I changed the depth to 0.07. It looked good. Next I wanted to animate my simple hexagon shape rotating about it's z axis.

So using the animation pallet, I set a key frame for 3D object position at zero and then I advanced the timeline to 3 seconds. With the roll 3D object tool selected, I edited the z axis orientation in the tool bar from 0 degrees to 360 degrees at the 3 second mark. I then played my animation and while the object spinned about the z axis, the position of the z axis was in the wrong place. the z axis was still aligned with the center of my extruded object if the depth had been set to the original depth of 1.0.

End result is it looks like my shallow depth hexagon is rotating about a point in space rather than rotating about the center of the object. Is there a way to reposition the axis so the center will be the center of the depth of my extruded object? In shots 1 and 2 you see the object with the correct depth but the wrong z axis location. In shots 3 and 4 the object has the wrong depth but rotates properly.

Photoshop :: CS4 3D Object Rotation Performance

Mar 5, 2009

I know there are plenty of threads about OpenGL problems out there, but most seem to focus on OpenGL not working at all. That's (fortunately) not my issue. My problem is that I would love to use CS4 for texture painting, but 3D object interaction is just so unbelievably slow!

System: Core2@3.1GHz, Vista 64, 8GB RAM, nvidia GTX 260, driver 182.08

I notice that when I rotate an object, the CPU goes up all the way to almost 100%, all used up by the Photoshop process. And still the movement does feel far from fluent.

No compare that to any other OpenGL app, let's say Mudbox or UV Mapper. No hitch at all, everything is fluid and barely uses any CPU. So it feels like all the 3D Object interaction is rendered by the CPU alone. The CS4 system information however says behind every OpenGL feature (Supported!).

Maya Animation :: Changing Rotation On Object?

Feb 6, 2011

I have an object that I want to rotate different.... not sure how to explain, it, but you can tell what I want by looking at the screenshot attached. I want the rotate to align with the cylinder. I've tried reset transformations, and the home key to move the pivot. I've also tried the different settings for the rotate settings and nothing is changing this angle. Is there a way to manually set this?

I’ve tried flatten, mirror & rotate but I still can’t get the text to display correctly.

I’ve attached a DWG file (2010 format) with a piece of text.

Maya Animation :: Setting Rotation Axis Of Object?

Jan 1, 2011

I am busy working on rigging a character ( See attachment) to the best of my abilities and am running into some issues:

I have made a nurbs curve object which I intend to use as a controller in my rig, I have however modeled my character with his arms in a 45 degree angle so I snapped this particular object to the wrist and aligned it with the geometry...here comes the fun part , because it is a controller I wanted to have a clean channelbox zo I froze transformations which neatly sets every channel to 0, it also snaps the local axis to a world pivot orientation....

I went in componentmode pressed the question mark thingy and thought it was working..but it still alters the values in the channelbox.

I basically want the same rotation axes editing capabilities as I have with joints, I will try fiddling with that next, but I can't believe that this can't be solved any simpler.

Maya Animation :: Move Files - Specify Rotation And Translation Of Object Using Text File Full Of Numbers?

Jan 7, 2011

My current goal is to specify the rotation and translation of an object using a text file full of numbers. I have been told that I should import a "move" file. However, I can't seem to find any kind of reference about the move file format or how to use it. I see in the import dialog box that there is a file type called "move" but I don't know how to format the data that I put into the "move" file.

Also, I tried to export a "move" file so I could take a look at what Maya generates, but I keep getting the error "// Error: Could not save file "C:/My Documents/maya/projects/body_in_ocean/scenes/examplemove.mov".

I created a group with my object in one file, referenced it in my working file, moved the group around and set some keys in the working file, but I can't seem to export any move data. How to get this to work?

Maya Animation :: Control Curves Rotation Axis Coinciding With Joint Rotation?

Jul 15, 2011

When setting up a simple FK control curve on say the wrist for example, many times the control curve isn't exactly perpendicular to the local rotation axis of the joint movement, so when we position the control curve to be perpendicular to the joint - it has a rotational value added, but the rotational handles are lines up with the rotational handles of the joint that we want to move.

Freeze Transformations: then the control curves rotational handle go back to being skewed (out of alignment with the joints)

We want to Freeze transformations before constraining the curve, but we'd really to keep those rotations control handles to remain aligned with the joints rotational handles. This will make it an exact control when animating - grab the rotational handle of the curve, rotate it, and the joint will move exactly in the proper direction.

how to get the rotational handle of any control curve to run perpendicular to the shape after freezing transformations?

Illustrator :: Path Resets Rotation Of Gradient To Its Original Degree Of Rotation

Jan 13, 2014

To summarize: It seems that compounding a path resets the rotation of the gradient to it's original degree of rotation.

Detailed version:

1. Create a shape.
2. Add a gradient fill. Note it's degree of rotation. Let's say it's set at 10°.
3. Now rotate the shape by any means (transform or rotate tool). Note the gradient degree of rotation has shifted the same amount as the shape was rotated (if it was rotated 50°, the gradient will show at 60°).
4. Make it a compound path.
5. Instantly the gradient shifts back to it's original degree of rotation of 10°.

It appears that when rotating a shape with a gradient, the rotation of the gradient is locked to the rotation of the shape. But when making it a compound shape it releases that lock and "remembers" it's original state. But that is only true as soon as you make it a compound path, but if you no go ahead and rotate it just a bit using the cursor (as opposed to selecting transform > rotate), the gradient will switch back to how you would expect it to rotate in the first place...

Workaround would be to make it a compound path before rotating the shape at all.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 12 :: Changing The Angle Of Rotation Preset?

Mar 20, 2012

I've been using Corel Draw! 8 for years and my favorite tool was the angle of rotation. For example, I would select an object, usually a rectangle that has the point of rotation at end of the narrow rectangle. As I rotated it, I could see how much the angle of rotation in degrees is. Therefore I could type a value in the box and the rectangle would rotate some many degrees. Fast forward to my Corel Draw 12. Now when I click on the same object, the box will display what the angle is in degrees already based on the circular angle startingaat the nine o'clock position. I need it to say ZERO and I can't find the setting to set it at zero

what I am drawing is I rotate a narrow rectange and basically creating a dial face for instruments.

AutoCad :: Rotation 1 Automatically Triggers Rotation 2?

May 15, 2007

I have a North Arrow that I would love to make into a dynamic block. I would like to be able to rotate the N that represents where the north direction is. But while rotating the N around the center of a circle I would like the letter itself to stay un-rotated. It seems simple, if I rotate the letter around the axis of a circle 90 deg, I would like the letter itself to rotate -90 deg on it's own axis. Of course this is easy to do manualy, but how do i do it so that rotation 1 automaticaly triggers rotation 2?

CorelDRAW X6 :: Update Outline Width After Resizing Object If Scale With Object Selected

Dec 14, 2013

Resizing objects is a mess in CorelDRAW X6 when objects are outlined with Scale With Object enabled to retain proportions after resizing.

None of the tools dealing with outlines (e.g. Contour or even Outline itself) continue to work properly after resizing the object.

I strongly suggest to recalculate outline property values after resizing if Scale With Object is checked. Don't just do it hidden somewhere internally in the object model by applying a temporary scaling factor. Instead actually recalculate the actual property values if Scale With Object is checked.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6 :: Object Styles - None For A Single Object Attribute?

Dec 9, 2012

Is there a way to exclude single attributes from being defined in a object style? As example: i want to define an outline that does not change width of the objects, but everything else.

There is a small tick box right of every attribute with help text "None   this object attribute is not defined by a custom style" but i can not mark it. My feeling is, that i need to switch on this tick box to get the result i need, but i can not. When i click on it, it just gives me a greyed out "Revert". When i try to make child styles, there is a way to break the connection to parent style with these tick boxes, but no luck.

Is it a bug? I tried it with X6, X6.1 and X6.2

AutoCad :: Global Edit / Block Attributes Rotation BACK To Match Block Rotation

Dec 13, 2012

using AutoCAD 2009 (vanilla)

I got too smart for myself today in bringing an old drawing up to current standards...Everyone seems to want their block attributes to be zero - I have blocks where the attributes are best when they match the rotations of each blocks.

I have an old drawing that was rotated (as it should be) at approx 2deg.

I used a lisp routine to global edit all the blocks that needed to be at zero. BUT for some reason (and after hundreds of blocks were corrected), I noticed I now have two blocks that should NOT have been in the set have had their attributes rotated to zero....and the attributes should be at the same rotation as their block's rotation.

Because those two blocks have a fixed tic mark, I can click on the mark to see what the block rotation is, then rotate its attribute to that rotation, but I have hundreds of blocks! One-at-a-time sucks....

Any chance there is a GLOBAL way to edit an attribute rotation to match its own block's rotation?
