View 1 Replies View RelatedI just started playing around with Smoke 2013. I played around with the CFX and did some keying. Now, on the timeline, I have a clip with CFXa and an axis effect. Now I thought, that it should be a container, and that I could simply double click the clip, step into the container and copy out the matte. But that doesn't work anymore, since double clicking now enters the editor again.
So, how can I access the matte (and how can I step into the container)?
Oh, and now that the unrendered clip is on the timeline, I only get the message Unrendered Frame. Obviously Smoke can't play back an unrendered clip, but why doesn't it at least show the frame I'm parked on? And also, I started rendering, but it took forever, so I stopped after 10 min. In Smoke 2012 it rendered at least partially, but now I still only have a dotted line......

in cfx schematic , i got an action network, i set this action so it can output the comp and also the matte (the node got 2 output indicator : yellow and blue). Now if i right click and choose 'create cfx' , i will get a new cfx node , but i only output the final comp , there's no matte. In the pref, activate the 'generate alpha' will only output either white or black. Is this feature not avalable yet ?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to output lens flares and rays in the matte output option from action. These obviously appear to be ok via the 'comp' option, but when I add all objects to output the matte, only the geometry appears in the output, with no sign whatsoever of flares and rays. I would imagine these are available as a choice as they do appear in the object choices. [Code]..

View 3 Replies View Relatedi got a clip (.png) with alpha embedded. so this png is a matte container clip. When i apply resize from desktop tool. The result is a normal rgb clip with no alpha. It's no longer matte container clip. What is the best way to resize it? do i have to open the matte container and resize the rgb and alpha separately ? is there any better or smarter way to do it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust playing with actions multiple outputs. Have added a matte output successfully but can't find the 'edit output' option to add objects from the schematic to the object list, even if I add all I am then seeing unexpected behaviour using the different blend modes. Is this operator error (it wouldn't be the first time...)?

Smoke on Mac 2012 SP2
I’ve just stumbled across a way to acess the old desktop tools and as an old Smoke on Linux user hope that Autodesk keeps it there.
This is what I did.... Loaded a project, went to keyboard shortcuts and set a short cut for repeat (used to duplicate frames). Now hit the shortcut and you should see all the old desktop tools.
As an aside, why is Change Timecode/Keycode, convert rate in the retired tab?
It's not a show stopper but if you select more than one clip on the thumbnail desktop and pen copy they don't copy to where you place them but jump to be half hidden off the source area.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhy can't i commit the clip on desktop ? there's no 'commit' in the right click menu. To get this menu, i have to right- clicking the clip in timeline. So let say my clip in the desktop , first i have to drag it into timeline , or open it as sequence. Now in timeline , i commit the clip, then put back (drag) the clip into desktop. That's weird workflow... why can't i just do commit the clip in desktop so i don't need to go through that process ?
View 7 Replies View RelatedIf you're working with a lot of clips in a library and you're trying to select multiple thumbnails and ctrl +alt +drag to resize them, it's WAY too sensitive. It's like you need to click and drag in just the right spot or you're deselecting your group. It's taking me about 20 attempts to do this simple task.
Selecting the clips in the library appears to work better than ctrl + clicking them on the desktop.
How to create automatically for each project, a desktop library identical with the same folders (DigitCut, Elemts, Conformation, Rushes, Audio,...), each graphic artists will be able to work with the same tree?
View 8 Replies View RelatedIn the desktop i can playback the thumbnail (space bar key), the problem is i will play the thumbnail under my current cursor position NOT the SELECTED thumbnail ? is there any preference i can set to switch this behavior?
Let say i'm hovering a thumbnail (clip) , i can play it by pressing space bar directly , but what if i want to scrub it first coz i don't want it to play from the beginning. While doing the scrubbing , my cursor will definitely then out of thumbnail. it might accidentally hovering (on top of) other clip/thumbnail. now pressing space bar will definitely play the wrong clip. so every time i scrub the clip, i got to reposition the cursor on top of the clip over and over again.
So i think it's more useful to change the behavior.
I'm trying to drag multiple clip from timeline into desktop or library but all the clips always got spliced into a single clip. How to keep them as separated clips ? or individual clips ?

View 2 Replies View Relatedwhy after i drag a footage from the gateway into my library, the pending render is still there and it wont render it?... i mean i cant see the footage image after i drag into my library...is it the proxy not working or what?....or is there any setting for it that i did not set it?..
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhat can I do to increase render speeds? I'm getting about 400mbps on my raid. I've got a good gfx card, a ton of ram, but smoke just doesn't seem to take advantage of any of it. Watching my cpu/gpu cycles while rendering it always shows that I am using less than 25% of both. Is there a way to tell it to use everything I've got, I know in nuke, and resolve you can do something like this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a very long sequence on CFX (3000 frames). Its a pain everytime a have to render in proxies (30 min). Is there a way to render in the timeline on proxies and from a certain frame? The default is a render starting at frame 1.

Actually, we are working in this project: URL....and we have a big problem, cause our problem is the same like this: URL....
but absolutely out of control. We are desperated, because deadline project is coming to the end..We work in Smoke around 85% and is a 90 minutes film. Is a huge project..We use pre rendered CFX.
Is it possible to do so in Smoke on Mac?
View 6 Replies View RelatedIt seems that you can only decide on your intermediary at the point of first setting up the project? Is this true? Wouldn't it be a good (very good?) idea to be able to change this once you have embarked upon the project? It seems to me that you might want to use the ProRes codec when you are cutting and messing about with your project and then switch to DPX when you want to be careful about the quality of the render files?
Thus you may want to be creative in the render-room saving ProRes format when you can build up lots of decisions, but then switch finally over to the DPX format when you are closing in upon the final project. The current system (unless I have missed something) means that one you have chosen your intermediary render format, you are stuck in that project in that format?
TO mention Liquid for the second time today, you used to be able to right click in the timeline and switch the timeline render format (everything from dv to uncompressed). It could take any codec, frame rate and frame size but then you could decide and change your mind on the render format that you wished to use.

Is there a way for me to output certain in and out points instead of a whole sequence. I have a long clip and only want a small section of it, where in Smoke 2013 can I input the in and out points I want rendered? I can't see it in CFX and If I mark an In and Out point on the timeline it still renders the whole clip.

I have a 45min show with hundreds of edits in it. A mix of ProRez LT, Intra P2 (brought in ProRez proxy) and H264 5D footage. My intention was to relink all my Intra footage with the RAW and simply import the rest for online but have run into several issues. I'll make a different post outlining my steps and questions on how I've gotten here but my emidiate issue is after consolidating and cacheing all sources material of my master sequesnce, I have pending renders, how to get rid of. Also, all my source material in the sequesnce appears to be still be pointing to the original location and not the cached media.

I don't know what the correct name in Smoke but ussually in Nuke it's called ROI (Region of Interest) , ROI define which area that need to be rendered and which area/pixel which will be ignored to optimize render time. How can i deal with this in Smoke ? For example in 3d space in action module, i put a lot of layers (floating in 3d space) using hires still images (above 4k x 4k). All the layer is put outside the frame (frame size is hd 1920) so they're not visible. The screen is actually blank ( no object is visible at all) . But unbelievable... the render took forever ! Definitely , something need to be fixed.
In Nuke , if the objects are not 'in-frame' then they will be ignored even when i got many super hires images, the render will still be very fast . It won't calculated the 'garbage' objects.
Where does the background render Files store...?
