Sep 28, 2012Pre-release 4 I find my hotkeys stop working after several minutes in the smoke. Switching users does not remedy but restart does.

Apr 22, 2013When I am in cfx in action 1-up, I press shift 3 or shift 4 to view side and top view. Nothing happens. What is the correct hotkey (smoke) to show the view. The hotkey suggested does not work. And if you manually select it, it takes quite a while to decide it will change view for you.

Jan 10, 2013Why do the hotkeys randomly stop working? Simple ones, like the move tool or the marquee tool.
The only fix i've found is having to CLICK on the tool and then the hotkeys will work again...it's really annoying - never happened in cs5...

Oct 26, 2012I know in the smoke 2012 on OS X you were able to set your keys as Flame. Is this possible in Smoke 2013 beta 5 ?
Also, when in connect FX can you make a hotkey for pan and zoom ? Seems silly that you would have to change that manually every time but I am sure it is user error.

Jun 13, 2012Quite possibly user error, but following along with Grants Keying demo, I am unable to make the MasterKeyer in Axis perform a key!
I have a background on v1, green screen shot on v2, select both and apply axis fx. Enable the PreviewFX cache, then in Keyer I switched t Masterk, select the left colour pick and click on the green screen element. All that happens is the swatch turns white regardless of the colour being selected, and the entire video clip is removed to reveal the background.
As far as i can tell, all my onscreen settings are the same as the ones in Grants video.

Jan 22, 2013I'm running the trial version of Smoke 2013 (latest version) on a Mac Pro. Going out a Kona Card. SDI out works fine, but I'm not getting a signal out of the HDMI? (I know the cable is good, Final Cut works fine...).

Mar 21, 2013I do a heavy job about an into working on a comp my keyboard will stop working, every once in a while if I cmd + tab out of smoke and back into smoke it will do the same thing, but my mouse always works. The only way to really get the keyboard back to working is by rebooting the app. This is really embarrassing when you are doing supervised sessions and you have to reboot.

Sep 25, 2012I am having some issues with the newly added Sequence Publish function added in Prerelease 4. I have tried using both the built in AAF export option, and have tried a custom DPX image sequence with EDL export. The function is able to do the final sequence render in preparation for the publish, however it doesn't ever actually publish either the DPX sequence or quicktime movies I request it to. I am left with a folder which contains the edl or aaf file, but no corresponding media ever gets written out. When I check the jobs tab in the mediahub, it just shows "waiting" as its status, but it never progresses past that point. I have tried this function on three different timelines with different media, and it still won't write out the publish sequence. I am able however, to export the sequences to a quicktime as I would normally.

Oct 17, 2013Trying to conform Canon C300 MXF media from 3 different drives. My source footage is spread across 3 TB of portable drives, so I'm trying to conform each drive's footage, cache the media, then move on to the next drive.
This mostly worked, but there's about a half dozen clips that refuse to cache for some reason. Everything looks fine when the drive is plugged in - then I consolidate handles, then go to the sequence and choose CACHE MEDIA - Backburner kicks in and says 100% complete.
But then I have to quit Smoke to eject the drives and connect a different one, and when I start Smoke again, MOST of the clips are there, but some of the clips are not. They do not say Unlinked or checkboards - but they are just black. (One time it showed RED frames - WTF??). If I reconnect the HD, the clips show up, so it's obviously still reading it from the portable drive.
Is there an option to force cache individual clips?.
I tried unlinking/relinking thos problem clips, and even Hard Committing the GAP layer above - and those few clips still do not cache - even the hard commit goes black when the drive is disconnected. How is that even possible? Do I need to add an Axis Effect to force a render, then commit those frames?
why the BB would say 100% complete, but not all clips are truly cached?

AutoDesk Smoke :: Consolidating CFX Clip Not Working
Jul 7, 2013So I have a soft imported clip with cfx applied...right click consolidate handles...and it seems to work...
But then archiving gives a crazy size estimate so I checked handles again...it turns out the handles haven't been consolidated at all. Timeline says it has been consolidated but entering cfx and exiting again the handles come back.

AutoDesk Smoke :: Working With AVCHD In 2013?
Sep 9, 2012I was under the impression 2013 worked natively with AVCHD. I have footage from both a Sony FS100 & 700 and unless I'm missing something I'm coming up empty.
The file structure starts with: AVF_Info & Private
Private navigates to BDMV which navigates to :
Clip Info
Playlist
stream
Of those three selections only stream seems to want to do something but when you select it says it's "loading" but nothing happens...I let it sit for 15 minutes and nothing.
working with AVCHD in 2013? or what am I missing?

Jan 4, 2014Having a few problems after swapping AJA for BMD DeckLink. Latest problem...
Capture from tape works if I manually go in there and set points and Capture, but Auto-Capture doesn't work - never seems to cue up the deck properly. Gets to a 5 sec pre-roll, stutters a bit, then just beeps and stops trying.
I know the tape is fine - I sent the EDL to FCP and captured my clips - but I'd prefer to stay in Smoke, of course...

AutoDesk Smoke :: Load Text Feature Not Working
Jul 22, 2012Is the load text "feature" not working in pre2? What Im trying to achieve:
Toolbar (the new tab) -> text/input: none -> Load -> roll down menu to "text file" -> roll down menu to "UTF-8" -> click the text file i've created using TextEdit = nothing happens.
Have i missed something very obvious or is it broken?
In TextEdit i choose to make the text "plain" so i can save it as a UTF-8 but during the load of the textfile smoke "tells me" "Cannot open"

Apr 23, 2013Im trying to use the add point tracking feature in the MK/Gmask in action. Is this a bug or has the software changed? I used to be able to add a tracking point, scrub media to where the point falls off, select add, hold down control and move the tracker to a new point and it would work fine.
Today no matter what I do when the tracker jumps to the second selected position it just jumps off screen. It even does this if I dont use the add function and stop a track, move to new location and hit snap? Whats up with that?

Jun 20, 2011I can't seem to be able reassign the hotkeys around in Max anymore (no matter how hard I try).I was able to create a Quad for Shift+Z, but when I try it reassigning the same Quad or a new one on Shift+X or any other letter, it doesn't work for some reason. I tried at this point on ALL the combos, and it seems like Max actively refuses to assign anything to any quad menu.
It seems like after assigning my first new Quad, it doesn't want to do anymore changes

Nov 8, 2012Today, I decided to give Maya a try. After I installed the program, I created primitive polygons and played with the program a bit. Everything worked fine. However, I have a few problems. The shortcut keys aren't working. It's valid to say that the problem is occurring because the hotkeys aren't set. I checked the hotkey editor interface and determined that all the hotkeys are set. Consequently, the problem isn't occurring because the hotkeys aren't set. Also, right mouse click doesn't bring up a menu. Is there an option to toggle hotkeys that I don't know about?

It won't even see anything below zero in order for me to make a correction on it, everything seems to be clamped on import. I'm using ProRes HQ footage.

1. If I have a layered Photoshop file or png with an alpha channel (a still frame lower third), I see that I can import it as a multi layered clip, but what is the best way to have it in the sequence to show up properly?
2. If I have a QuickTime in animation format or Pro Res4444 format with an embedded alpha, how can I import that file to show and cut it on a top layer to animate above my video?

Jul 10, 2012Does Smoke have selection functionality similar to that of Combustion? As an example, you might want to selectively blur part of an image. In Combustion, you would draw a selection and then apply an operator above the selection to achieve this. I don't see a similar selection tool function in Smoke, but I imagine you could achieve the same effect by duplicating a layer and using a Gmask via the Wipe timeline FX.does Smoke not have a selection tool similar to Combustion?

Jan 10, 2014Whats the dealing with importing TWs to Smoke? I have a show that's 70% keyframed with timewarps and need a way other then baking the effect to bring it into Smoke. It's comming from FCP7 and we have Automatic Duck but neither the XMLs or AAF bring anything other then the first speed of the clip. Any way to retain the keyframes?

Jul 7, 2012Having a problem which is easy enough to replicate when using Merge to HDR Pro ... either directly from within CS6, from LR4 or from Bridge it is causing CS6 to stop working.
What happens is that if you are using Merge to HDR then switch to another application causing Merge to HDR to lose focus eventually it will not recover and the Cancel/OK buttons are greyed out and not available. It never recovers from there.
Typical symptoms where Merge to HDR stops working (and therefore CS6) are the following:
- Any sliders that had been adjusted prior to this happening are available to change, others are not;
- Any sliders that are greyed out can still be returned to their default value by double-clicking on the slider.
Photoshop has to be 'killed' before it can be used again.These symptoms are repeatable in the 32 bit version of CS6, the more files that are merged the quicker it happens. For example if you start with the "Photorealistic" preset and have 3 files open (opended using Camera Raw, Canon 5D mkII CR2 files therefore ProPhoto RGB; 16 bit; 5616 by 3744 (21.0MP); 300ppi) it happens withing a couple of times switching to other applications and back but with 9 files open it will happen faster.
And it also happens with AdobeRGB (8bit), ProPhotoRGB (8bit) and sRGB (8bit).Happens from both x64 and x32 systems. The environment is follows:
