Is there a way to return the total number of layouts in a drawing file?
I would use it to update a field showing the total number of sheets in a set.
(eg 2 of "X", where X is the field variable).
I am trying to create a leader that reads the block "name" and then places it into circle, or square at the end of a leader.
I see it in the "other" programs but I have plain ole Autocad.
Should be simple enough except my brain is locked in the clouds and im spinning around in circles.
Which may not be a bad thing, except NASCAR hasnt started yet.
I have a room with a cathedral-style ceiling. I'd like to create a freeform space. What's the secret? I've changed the properties from extruded to free form, and then selected the boundaries (floor slab, ceiling slabs & walls), then hit "G" to generate the space. The command line reads no space generated.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have created a linetype with the text GAS OPTION in it. The line is continuous with a break around the text. In a straight line the linetype works fine (breaks around the text etc). However, when I use a polyline and spline the line for a curved line the text aligns with the direction of the line at the start, but when the line bends, the text suddenly changes direction and reads in the opposite direction. It looks like AutoCAD is trying to keep the text upright rather than following the direction of the line. When the text changes direction it also changes its insertion point and overlaps the continuous part of the line. I have 2013 AutoCAD.
Here is the string I used for the linetype.
*GAS_Option_LINE,Gas line ----GAS OPTION----GAS OPTION----GAS OPTION----

I am doing takeoffs from a CAD drawing. Without getting too deep into it, I have one origin point, and then I have 200 or so points around the origin. I'm trying to find the fastest way to get the X offset, and the Y offset between each point and the origin.
Right now I'm drawing two lines to connect each point to the origin, then using PROPERTIES on the lines where they meet to get each length - I need to be able to see the numbers on the screen for a second while I copy them into a database. But I'm wondering if it would be easier to write a script, or if there happens to be a tool that could do this with fewer clicks.
As a hvac calculation engineer i often need to measure quickly pipes length and ventilation ducts area.
Measuring pipes lenght is quite easy with qselect + tlen.lsp, but, so far, how to measure ducts area quickly.
I'd like to add that ducts surface seen in 2D would satisfy me and i only talk about 2D drawings.
How to do this measure? Maybe there are lisp routines that could work?
Several people recommended DIMANGULAR. I have some concerns using this method because it is dependent on the precision of angular units in the drawings DIMSTYLE settings. For example, if a drawing file's DIMSTYLE has a precision set to the nearest whole decimal degree or only shows degrees and minutes but not seconds then the angle may appear at a certain angle, let's say perpendicular at 90 degrees. But in reality the angle might be slightly less than 90 degrees, if its off by a few seconds.
I learned an alternative way by selecting both lines and typing the LIST command. The Angle in XY Plane will show the measurement for each segment in bearings, not azimuths. I simply find the difference between the Angles in XY Planes for both lines to determine the angle. I have a few concerns with this method.
1. How do you add subtract bearings measured in degrees, minutes, and seconds? For example, N 76d3'18" W and N 13d56'42"E? I "think" there are websites that can do this? Can this be done directly in AutoCAD through QuickCalc or some other tool?
2. Lines, but not polylines, have Angles in XY Planes in the LIST command. Is this because AutoCAD assumes that polylines will be composed of more than one segment (and each segment with a possible different angle)? Is there anyway to measure the angle of a single one-segment polyline?
Is there a DIFFERENT way between the two methods I just described to measure the angle between two lines (and two polylines) in AutoCAD?
Is it possible to measure the angle between two faces in 3D?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhenever we use measure tool it will show the a dialog box with valves of x,y,z, delta X, delta Y & delta Z. I want to customize the same as per the attached image.
Customize this, dialog box will not disappear(modal) after entering into any other command so no need to remember the values of x,y....etc.
I have some users that use Solid Viewer that I am cosidering switching to Inventor LT. I use Inventor Pro. There is a feature in SolidWorks that let's them quickly display the overall extents; length, width, and height for quoting purposes. The tool creates a transparent box around the 3D model and displays these dimensions.

I want to measure the remaining distance, so, i have to select the face of the screw and the hole in the part.
I cannot do that since the program doesn't let me select the faces.
I tried to slice the part with the half section view, but when i press the measure tool the section view ends.
We are able to measure distance in meters between 2 points using COGO tools. Though, when meassuring areas (command area) even setting units to meters it shows: "Area = 0.00000073, Perimeter = 0.00343123" which is not expressed in meters. The area in meters is around 8900m2. We are using latitude, longitude LL84 (WGS84). Is there a way to easily measure area over the map using this coordinate system?

I click the bottom line of thy cylindrical part, then I want to click the top most point of the half sphere, but I cannot.
Inventor always highlights the whole half sphere so I cannot specify the second measurement point exactly.
Why I cannot measure what I want to? The only solution is that I put the object in front view an draw a sketch and measure the sketch. What for I have a measurement tool?
I need the perpendicular distance between 2 polylines. If I was doing this manually, I would draw a line perp from 1 side and extend it to the other side, check it's length, and delete it. These are pipeline r/w's that quite often have variable width, and are not always parallel.
I am asking the user to select the pline 1st (GetEntity) to get some object data. Then I prompt for a point on the pline where a block will be placed. The block contains an attribute definition for the width. I check to make sure the point is on the pline. I was hoping I could get the user to select a point on the opposite side and force that to be perp. That would give me the width but it doesn't work. I have looked at GetFirstDerivative and rotate that 90 but the examples I found use a certain length. The perp length is what I need to determine.
Any command or lisp that will do new pollyline between two polyline on 1/3 or 1/4 space between them.
I need something that would be faster, use measure on pollilines then i draw between horizontall polylines on verteks or point new pollyline and ther divide it on 4 or 3 parts.
I used connect to data to connect to a shapefile of parcels in NAD83 TX-SF. When I measure a specific parcel with MAPDIST or MEASUREGEOM i get 140 feet but when I check the distance in ArcGIS I get 156'. The 156' is correct. It's not just that shapefile, the conversion is consistent with other imported data. The ratio is about 1.114

When I use the measure distance command, I have to exit out of the command before I move on to my next command. I'm used to measuring once and the command automatically exits (in previuos releases). Is there a variable that will exit the command after one measurement?

I have what seems like an odd, but needed request here. I have an engineer that is looking for a way to measure between two lines that are not co-planar, but he wants the measurement in a specific plane.
Basically he wants to be able to select a plane or line, then be able to select the second plane or line and have the tool automatically "project" it to the plane of the first selection and give the angle in that plane.
Ref the attached - the purple lines are in the XY plane, the blue line is not, but he wants to measure the angle from the X axis to that line but in the XY plane as seen by the green line that was manually projected to that plane.
Without having to manually create a sketch and project the entities that need to be measured (this example is an extremely simplistic one), how can this be done? Measurements in this way need to be done in numerous complex angles.
He's claiming Catia, Pro/E and of course, SW can all do this "project" within the measure tool. I figured if that's indeed the case, Inventor sure be able to.....JD, you're the resident expert on SW & Inventor....do you know what I'm referring to?
IN Autocad 2013, I'm trying to measure an annotative dimension. When I do it, it doesn't show the units along with the measurement.
For instance, it just shows up 24 when in fact I want it to say 24". Or if it was metric I would want the "m" to show up after the 24. How do I get the unit to appear?
