View 9 Replieshow to scale out these drawings. I have a CAD drawing using metric scale. This drawing has multiple title blocks. and each title block has its own scale. 1:500, 1:50, 1:150, 1:75. Now I make a block out of each title block and scale them out to find out if they plot out on the same sheet, and they do. Now, I still can't find out the scale factor to print them out to scale. I tried using using the scale shown in for each drawing for example 1:500 and it is super small when I do a print preview.

I mean, I start a drawing using the imperial template, but i want to use the standard metric scales on paper space. on previous versions the scale list shown both imperial & metric. Now it depends of what the template is using.

I'm working on a project for work where we were given DXF files for a drawing. So I attached this file into AutoCAD at a scale factor of 1. The drawing was originally drawn in metric at 1:200. However, I am working in an imperial file with many other drawings in it as well. How can I scale this drawing up to the right scale in imperial in model space?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I setup my viewports for my sheet I have a viewport that I set the viewport scale to 1:5. This is not showing up correctly and zooms the drawing off the sheet. When I go into the viewport and use the zoom to scale 1/5xp the scale is correct and totally different than the viewport scale 1:5. Since all my annotative text and hatching is set to 1:5 1:10 and 1:100 the annotations do not work since viewport scales 1:5, 1:10 and 1:100 are showing up incorrect and do not correspond to the correct zoom factors of 1/5xp 1/10xp and 1/100xp.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been working on several projects that require drafting in metric units and I'm having difficulty inserting block dwgs. into my working drawing at the correct scale.
My block drawing is set to millimeters. I've drawn my block and measured it. All is ok.
UNITS = milimeters; INSUNITS = 4
My working drawing is in millimeters. All line work is dimensioning accurately.
UNITS = milimeters; INSUNITS = 4
When I insert the block, it comes in extremely small. When I click on the block properties, it says it's units are in millimeters and the scale is 1. As it should be correct? except for the fact that its about 25x smaller then it should be. This leads me to believe there is an inch insertion factor some where.
To add to the conundrum, if I xref the block dwg into my working file, it comes in at the correct size. Is there an alternative block insertion scale factor setting that I'm not seeing?
I'm new to autocad and came from Metric system country. now I have hard time switching to Imperial system.
1- is there any comparative scale factor between metric and imperial? for instance 1:20, 1:50, 1:250 and so on, compare to what in imperial?.
2 - in the unit dialogue box, if i use metric i only can choose Decimal not any other options like Architectural , engineering..etc. right?
3- if I want to draw in cm or m not millimeter I mean input my distance in cm or m while drawing how to do it?
4- if I want to open a metric drawing in a imperial model space how to switch from M to inch.
I have created a project in a metric template, then found that the scale factor is haywire. Is there some way to rest the template with out loosing my work or changing anything other than the physical line properties?
Second, I have loaded the same file onto another students file who's scale factor is A OK and metric. My file LOOKS fine but when i start to add lines or dimension all the properties are imperial.
I have copied building from metric drawing to imperial template the template i use. Now I want to dimension it but impeial dimension are not equivalent to metric,which should be because building stays the same size, i can scale the building but i want to know if there is way to overcome this issue without scaling the building

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have some machines which seem to work in imperial maesurement a dn others which work in metric. it is frustrating when trying to insert a map block that is metric and is inserting into a drawing which is set up as imperial. We have tried using the - dwgunits to change to mm, and then using insunits , insunitsdef source and insunitsdeftarget to 0, this works when the PC is currentyl in use. when shut down and restarted it reverts back to imperial setting.
Am i right in thinking this is something that needs to be done at the software installation stage to make it default to metric everytime?
How can I have both Inch & Metric dimensions on a drawing? Preferably, inch above metric below.

I need to submit a metric drawing for a proposed borehole amongst utilities that I have been forwarded in .dwg format. The scale needs to be 1:250. I have copied and pasted the utilities information into a new drawing, where I've added my borehole with dimensions, company title block, and some additional notation.
In a system where scaling seems to be varied by zooming, plotting, and drawing - how do I achieve 1:250 scale for submission of this plan?
If you draw in decimal how do you plot in a 1:100 etc scale, i.e. how to plot a metic, scaled drawing.

Wondering if there's a way to enter imperial units in command line of a metric drawin and have it convert imperial to metric.
IE. I'm constantly taking field site dimensions in imperial and it'd be useful if i didn't have to do conversion every time.
i have a drawing from a client that is in metric and i need to print the drawings in inches in 1:1 for my boss. i should know this but it seems to be a bigger problem than i thought.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using 2012 and i would like to enter my dimensions in imperial into a metric drawing with autocad doing an automatic conversion. So let's say i write this:
12'-8-1/2"
Autocad has to take it like that into the metric drawing then, he has to convert this to 3873.5 mm. Is there a code i can put into some autocad file to make this software work like that?
Is it possible to obtain Architectural unit dimensioning (ft and inches) in a metric drawing ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an existing drawing that was created in AutoCad 2012. View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I open a new drawing in my AutoCAD 2013 that I just recently installed last week, I encounter a problem that I am not familiar with from previus versions of AutoCAD I have worked on. First of all, the units default to decimal, and I want them to default to architectural, with feet and inches. I have to type UNITS in the command line every time I open a new drawing in order to adjust this. I have AutoCAD for Architecture 2012 on another computer, and the program automatically defaults to architectural units upon opening up. Just to let you know, the program I am having this difficulty with is part of a package called Autodesk Building Design Suite 2013. I was under the impression that it included AutoCAd for Architecture, but I think it has only standard AutoCAD.
The scale of the objects I draw vs. the scale of the drawing field is very out of proportion. What I mean is, when I open a new drawing and draw a 30' -0" line, the line appears so long on the screen that I cannot see the whole object, even if I zoom out to the maximum. I should be able to see the object in it's entirety. In fact, when I draw a line that is only 12" long, even when the zoom is all the way out, the line looks huge in length. I have tried adjusting the units to the architectural/inches setting of course, and I have tried adjusting the scale in model space from 1:1 to 1/4'=1'-0", but nothing is working.
I would like a few rules to be triggered once the new drawing template is opened.select sheet size, I have been given a rule that already works, basically the rule selects a border and title block based on sheet size selection.
trigger = iTrigger0iLogicForm.Show("BorderChange", FormMode.Modal)iLogicVb.UpdateWhenDone = TrueIf Parameter("BorderSize") = "A0" Then ActiveSheet.ChangeSize("A0", MoveBorderItems := True)ActiveSheet.TitleBlock = "MJTD A0"ActiveSheet.Border = "MJTD A0.
[code]....
I would also like a rule to let me annotate in metric or imperial. this is where I require assistance. I am not sure the best way to achieve this rule. My programming is very basic.I have found some links here, but I can't seem to make them work in the drawing environment. Also these rules seems to change the units of an already created .ipt.
Rule #1 Link
Rule #2 Link
I am just looking for a rule to select either .in or mm from the styles library(i think) , before I even place a base view. Regardless of the original units used to make the model.
Using Civil 3D 2012, is there a way to import/export a list of metric annotation scales for use in another drawing?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having some problems getting the hang of applying the drawing scale to my assignment. I understand the scale factor that is applicable to the printing only and that AutoCAD doesn't care about the units used...but something is not clicking here and I'm sure it is pretty simple. My assignment requires me to draw 3 simple structures at 1/8" scale on 11X17 paper. Each house is 20' long with 10' walls and each is done in absolute, relative, and polar. I actually completed the work with all 3 formats without specifying the scale or paper size, just to get familiar with the commands. But now that I am trying to set the dimensions correctly, I cannot replicate my work because I'm getting lost in the way things are defined. I am using AutoCAD 2005, also have a 2002 version to which I can defer.

Any of you know how to do it???
I realize it may be a Civil3D question. When I change my drawing scale in the "Drawing Settings" dialog box to 1"=40', for example. The Annotative scale in the Properties Palette changes to 1"=40'_XREF.
View 2 Replies View RelatedTo convert from imperial to metric multiply the length, in inches, by 25.4 (the number of millimeters per inch).
Example: 3 inches converted to millimeters is 3*25.4 or 76.2mm.
To convert from metric to imperial multiply the length, in millimeters, by 0.03937 (the number of inches in a millimeter). For greater accuracy use 0.03937008.
Example: 100 millimeters converted to inches is 100*0.03937 or 3.937 inches.
In 2000 I could set or change the scale for the drawing being created. I don't remember the path now, but the screen included text size, dimension line standoff, decimals or fractions, tolerances, etc. So far I have not found a way to set or change the scale of the drawing being created in LT2013. I discovered drawing properties but that's not it. Where such can be found?
