AutoCAD 2013 :: Dimension Arch Units In A Metric Unit Drawing
Jul 19, 2013Is it possible to obtain Architectural unit dimensioning (ft and inches) in a metric drawing ?

View 3 RepliesI'm trying to make an ATTDEF (in combination with a circle/reference object) to show coordinates in meters, even though the drawing units are in mm.
The general drawing units may not be changed. I want the output to be 7,453 rather than 7453. Yes, with comma and three decimals.. But how ?
We have some machines which seem to work in imperial maesurement a dn others which work in metric. it is frustrating when trying to insert a map block that is metric and is inserting into a drawing which is set up as imperial. We have tried using the - dwgunits to change to mm, and then using insunits , insunitsdef source and insunitsdeftarget to 0, this works when the PC is currentyl in use. when shut down and restarted it reverts back to imperial setting.
Am i right in thinking this is something that needs to be done at the software installation stage to make it default to metric everytime?
AutoCAD 2010
Wondering if there's a way to enter imperial units in command line of a metric drawin and have it convert imperial to metric.
IE. I'm constantly taking field site dimensions in imperial and it'd be useful if i didn't have to do conversion every time.
how to change default units to metric for inventor2013? Now I have them set as imperial.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI would like a few rules to be triggered once the new drawing template is opened.select sheet size, I have been given a rule that already works, basically the rule selects a border and title block based on sheet size selection.
trigger = iTrigger0iLogicForm.Show("BorderChange", FormMode.Modal)iLogicVb.UpdateWhenDone = TrueIf Parameter("BorderSize") = "A0" Then ActiveSheet.ChangeSize("A0", MoveBorderItems := True)ActiveSheet.TitleBlock = "MJTD A0"ActiveSheet.Border = "MJTD A0.
[code]....
I would also like a rule to let me annotate in metric or imperial. this is where I require assistance. I am not sure the best way to achieve this rule. My programming is very basic.I have found some links here, but I can't seem to make them work in the drawing environment. Also these rules seems to change the units of an already created .ipt.

I am just looking for a rule to select either .in or mm from the styles library(i think) , before I even place a base view. Regardless of the original units used to make the model.
I received a .dwg file from S. Korea with dimensions and units all in the metric mm and I need the units to be in feet and inches. Is there a command to switch dimensions and units to imperial feet and inches?
Rather than changing units in command UNITS Inches and Architectural, and SCALE 25.4, is there any other way to switch metric to imperial systems. Scaling somewhat does the trick but, provided dimensions remain in mm.
What is the ideal dimension style setting for metric say 1:100 scale. See my setting on the attachment.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWe are having an issue with Dimensioning and the Primary Units not maintaining the correct value. We use metric so the multiplier of 25.4 or .039370079 for Dim Scale Linear would be used in our Dimension Styles depending on if we are drawing in model space or annotating in paper space. We have created specific Dim Styles for Model and Paper space. Every so often some of us will us the Dim Style for paper space and a metric unit would be shown. When we go into the properties of that dimension and change the Dim Scale Linear to 1 it shows as a different dimension then it actually is. After looking at the correct dimenion, we noticed the Dim Scale Linear shows .9449 but gives the correct dimension.
Note: We are drawing in Metric a multiplier of 25.4, our dimensions are done in english. A scale factor of .039370079 is used to accomplish this.
There is a simple fix with Match Properties but it still doesn't answer why our dimension show up wrong with a different multiplier for Dim Scale Linear.
I have a drawing from a contractor that is dimensioned in metric units. I have been tasked with converting the displayed units to inches for our machine shop. I have tried to display alternate units but they don't appear, yes, I did check the "display alternate units" box. I am using AutoCAD 2013.

View 3 Replies View Relatedhow to scale out these drawings. I have a CAD drawing using metric scale. This drawing has multiple title blocks. and each title block has its own scale. 1:500, 1:50, 1:150, 1:75. Now I make a block out of each title block and scale them out to find out if they plot out on the same sheet, and they do. Now, I still can't find out the scale factor to print them out to scale. I tried using using the scale shown in for each drawing for example 1:500 and it is super small when I do a print preview.

Can I do this and how?

This happens every time I save as to dwg, it's very annoying.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to determine what my base units are in any drawing that i'm in (In modelspace). Essentially i want to either just read out the current base unit, or simply determine metric or imperial...or even both. I've been browsing through the forums and i've found a few examples, but nothing too detailed. Here is what i have so far, i have a feeling i'm on the write track. Is it possible to read out the value of "PlotPaperUnits"?
namespace UNITTEST {
public class UNITS {
[Autodesk.AutoCAD.Runtime.CommandMethod("UNITS")]
public void UNITSCOMMAND() {
Document doc = Autodesk.AutoCAD.ApplicationServices.Application.DocumentManager.MdiActiveDocument;
[Code] ..........
There wasn't a metric template so I created one. I've also been working on setting up Annotative and Dynamic Blocks. Mostly we work in Imperial and so the blocks were drawn in Imperial units.
When I insert some of my Annotative Blocks (Section marks and Labels, etc.), some insert scaled up 25.4 (which is what I want) and others don't.
Take the attached examples:
SOIL-Gravel.dwg is not Annotative. Insunits is set to 1
NOTE-title.dwg is Annotative. Insunits is set to 1.
I notice on my Insert Dialog Box that the Block Unit Factor changes from 25.4 (SOIL) to 1
(NOTE).
For some reason NOTE-Section Cut (Annotative) inserts at 25.4, but the Dynamic Parameters fail to scale up.
I've played around with INSUNITSDEFSOURCE and INSUNITSDEFTARGET, but neither seem to change. I understand they only work if INSUNITS of the block is 0. Which I have also toggled.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWe recently updated all of our software at my company from 2010 architectural desktop to 2013 autocad. We do a lot of architectural work where we use the "wall" functions to draw our floorplans. I have noticed that the walls are disappearing on some files and not on others. Or we will only be able to see the outside line of the wall, but not the interior, which results in an undesirable appearance to the floorplans.
I have also run across these error messages when opening the files, I dont know if they are related or not:
"Unhandled exception C0000005 (access violation reading 0xffffffff) at address E43AA180h"
and

How to represent a bottomless arch (arch span)? I can make a horizontal arch pipe, but I only need the top half. I also thought about building a corridor.
We do have a storm drain system running perpendicular above it and need to show the arch as a crossing. Corridor would work but I think I would prefer a pipe network-type solution.

If I type the command UNITS and change the insertion scale to millimeter (mine was inches), what is going to happen? At first i used inches to draw 5 inches line and the get the dimension of it, second i drew again a line using the millimeter in units, but when i measured it still it is exact to the first line that i draw.

Is there any way to add one with its corresponding calculation parameter?
Under the "Style and Standard Editor" Panel i cannot modify it.
The End result is to display a " Symbol after the first Units instead of the in unit (see enclose picture that i manipulated to display the end desired result).
there's a bug in my file. but
system unit is set to 1cm.
display unit is set to 1mm.
I measure the geometry at the side. its about 6355mm
I put a dummy @ base where I measured it with the tape measure.
I move it up 6000mm and it goes way off.
I'm having an issue with dimensions changing from when I save the drawing to when I reopen it.
I'm using AutoCAD Mechanical 2009, exclusively in 2D. I save drawings in AutoCAD 2000/LT 2000 Drawing format to maintain backwards compatibility with our legacy documents which are still in regular use.
The exact process is:
1. Create dimension in existing drawing.
2. Set units of dimension. Typically this is fractional.
3. Save and close drawing.
4. Reopen drawing, and all of the dimensions units are set to decimal to the fourth decimal point.
If I interact with the dimension in any way, it will return to its set unit. For example, if I double click on it to bring up the Power Dimensioning window and just click Okay without altering anything, it will change back to its set unit. Likewise, if I move the dimension itself it will return to its set unit as well.
So far my solution has been to simply select the entire drawing at once, then move it X units one way, then X units back. The move back and forth will return all the dimensions to their set units.
Obviously this is not ideal, especially when sending drawings to co-workers who are unaware of the issue or even using different versions of AutoCAD.
I started 2D drawing in ACAD2010 without any settings like unit,layers etc.
But i want to know, How to find the unit am i using the dimension ? like inches or mm.
